Officer Disciplined 31 Times and Charged With Domestic Violence Continues in Job
One more chance should do it
A Metro police officer charged with domestic violence has been disciplined by the department 31 times during his 24-year career in Nashville.
Andre Johnson, 46, was decommissioned earlier this month but remains employed while criminal and internal investigations continue. Johnson was last assigned to the Central Precinct but now reports to the lobby of police headquarters every day, where he does nothing.
Decommissioning is not a punishment, but an "administrative restriction on the ability of an employee to exercise police authority," according to police policy. The level of that restriction depends on the reason behind the decommissioning, which can include injuries, pregnancy or criminal charges.
