Queensland To Shed 14,000 Government Employees
Maybe we can contract with the Aussies to cut some of our dead weight
THE State Government has released a full list of its public service redundancies.
Today's Budget documents reveal the state's Housing and Public Works Department is the latest to face deep job cuts, with almost 1500 positions will be targeted.
The jobs will go as QBuild and Project Services are merged into a single commercialised unit, saving taxpayers about $120 million a year.
The major cuts will help the Newman Government achieve its target of wiping the state's payroll of 14,000 fulltime equivalent workers to save $3.7 billion by 2015-16.
