How Do You Even Make a Four-Minute Ron Paul Tribute Video That Doesn't Once Reference U.S. Foreign Policy?

The Republican National Convention's big foreign policy night was kicked off with a tribute video to Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas). Hmmm…something's missing here, no?

Because they are clueless. They talk about our debt and budget and don't admit that military spending is part of the problem. They have not learned, and perhaps a collapse is the only thing that will teach them.

Yes, they, with all the rule-changes and other hijinx and shenanigans and their retched platform, helped me make my decision to support Gary Johnson this week.

Is this like those tribute videos at the Oscars - you only get one when you're dead, metaphorically or literally?

    1. Ptah-Hotep   13 years ago

      Yes, yes it is.

    2. Whiterun Guard   13 years ago

Only slightly less homoerotic. And shilly.

  3. Tim   13 years ago

That first frame looks like a STEVE SMITH tribute video...

    1. invisible furry hand   13 years ago

"It's the American story ... charting your own path... raping new ways forward... not because it's the easy way ... but because it's the STEVE SMITH way... and for those with dedication, character, faith and copious body hair, sometimes that lonely path paves the way downwards for millions of hikers... "

I thought they were going for the irony from roaadzzz.

      1. Bardas Phocas   13 years ago

I'm sorry, you didn't build that rape cave.

"Ron Paul is a great person, who made a truly important difference. Too bad all his followers are such raving wingnuts that we have to ignore them!"

  5. Mike M.   13 years ago

You know what else the video didn't include a reference to? The so-called "racist newsletter".

Which is a lot more than I can say about Reason circa 2008 during the time that phoney-baloney libertarian David Weigel was working here.

  6. Fist of Etiquette   13 years ago

"Whether people want to admit it or not, Ron Paul changed the conversation."

So that's why he will be conversing from the stage of the GOP convention?

  7. freeAgent   13 years ago

If they all love him so much, why didn't they let him speak for himself and why didn't they vote for him in the primaries?

  10. Ryan60657   13 years ago

Thank goodness Ron did not sell out and endorse the Republican's Big Government nominee. Respect.

  11. Andrew S.   13 years ago

Nothing on individual or civil liberties either. Wonder why that is.

  12. LibertyMark   13 years ago

There. Just like that, Ron Paul's been put to bed.

But, I think this might have been the best we could have expected from the establishment. They kept it safe, knowing the people at the convention would agree with the whole fiscal conservative part. They did kind of put him on a pedestal, which is nice.

And then the "approved" member of the Paul family was allowed to speak.

  13. PrangTee   13 years ago

Dude is making a whole lot of sense over there. Wow.

Uh huh. Fuck you too GOP.

  15. GILMORE   13 years ago

a tribute video to Rep. Ron Paul
"Whether people want to admit it or not, Ron Paul changed the conversation."

...." which frankly irritated the shit out of those of us who were doing things by the book and pandering to our constituents using the same proven formula of the last few elections. Who the fuck does this silly scrawny old man think he is? Fuck him and the horse he rode in on. Not only are we going to ban his delegates? WE'LL DO A FUCKING TRIBUTE MOVIE OF HIM, which everyone knows is the ultimate kiss off, essentially saying, "it's over for you bud. happy trails. dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. I hope you enjoy having every single point you tried to make twisted by the GOP spin machine to eventually make it seem like you were a good Republican fellow traveler and damn sure we should invade Iraq, and hell yes TARP was a good idea... you wont simply be *irrelevant* anymore... no, we'll turn you into a goddamn agent of your own destruction! Because that's how you do it in politics... you don't just 'beat' someone... you suck them in and subsume them until they are you and cease to have any independent relevance at all...by the time we're done, Salon magazine will be associating you with Rick Perry Santorum as a 'cultural conservative'..... or even a "neo-conservative"...hahahahaaahahaaahaa.... AND NOW OUR VICTORY IS COMPLETE. YOU AND YOUR REBEL FRIENDS HAVE WALKED INTO A TRAP!!"
