A.M. Links: Mitt Gets the Nod and Spurns Ron, Marines to Guatemala, Osama Book Varies from Official Story
-
Mitt Romney received his scripted nod from the Republican delegates, and to rub it in, the GOP made a last-minute rule change so that Ron Paul's votes wouldn't be counted.
- Britain's Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has called for a new emergency "wealth tax" — it's just temporary, of course. His colleagues aren't necessarily on-board.
- Send in the Marines! To Guatemala! To fight drugs! What could go wrong?
- New Zealand took the first step to legalize gay marriage, while Brazil makes the whole idea of civil unions very Brazilian by granting official status to a relationship between one man and two women.
- That unauthorized and controversial book by a Navy SEAL about the Osama bin Laden raid appears to tell a different tale than the official story. That official version is told in a movie that the White House was very eager to back.
- Arizona's own Jeff Flake got the GOP's nod to run for the U.S. Senate. In the general election, he'll face Democrat Richard Carmona, who was surgeon general under President George W. Bush.
- The U.S. has become a destination for British parents who want to select their babies' sex. The practice is illegal in the U.K, creating a windfall for some American doctors.

Failblog: Obama's unemployment promises vs. reality
I live in TX. Either TX goes GOP or TX is in play and Romney is so far behind the election is over and he has lost. Some Team Red apologist please explain to me why upping Johnson's popular vote total (he's not going to win, it's just a question of how good or bad he looks losing) is a less effective use of my vote than upping Romney's in a state he is guaranteed to carry?
If you don't live in a swing state, isn't a vote for Socialist Party A vs Socialist Party B more of a vote thrown away than a vote for a 3rd party?
Oh, and FIRST!!!!
Still waiting, Team Red.
Jesus Christ, man. It's barely 9 o'clock. Let John get his coffee and check his e-mail.
It has been decided that from now on FIRST! or its variants can only be awarded to the first comment relating to the OFFICIAL LINKS that Tuccille or other faceless staffers have posted officially.
FIST
Precisely.
Have I just been Fisted?
You, of all people, should know what linking to Golden Girls articles could lead to.
what are you hoping to get here? TX will go Red, you'll vote for Johnson, and the sun will rise in the east the following day. Is there an alternative conclusion you have in mind?
In other words, no response from Team Red.
I'm not Team Red's rep, just asking the point of your question.
WHY DON'T YOU PAY ATTENTION TO ME TEAM RED???!???!!!?
I live in PA, which has supposedly some chance of going Red Team rather than, likely, Blue Team, but again, I just don't care. So I'll vote Johnson (assuming Red Team doesn't kick him off the ballot here).
Since I live in the same in the same congressional district as most of the poorest parts of the City of Philadelphia (despite not living in Philly proper), I can't think of a good reason to vote Republican.
Yup. I live in FL. I knew for certain that my vote would be the tie-breaker in Romniac's favor, I'd still vote for GJ.
Same here from Ohio, BP
Nope.
Sorry kids. You all know I despise the Republicans, but if by some chance it's close here in MT, I'm voting for Romney. If the candidate had been Santorum it would be a different story.
OTOH, if MT will definitely go Red, I'll vote Johnson.
I know many dream of Libertopia rising from Obama's ashes, but...
Something will rise, but I seriously doubt it will be Libertopia. More likely the Blues will successfully blame Capitalism for the collapse leading to 30 years of socialist hell. Romney sucks ass, but he's not Obama.
Doesn't the Blues successfully blaming capitalism seem much more likely if Romney is in charge when everything goes to shit?
And, in what way is Romney not Obama?
And, in what way is Romney not Obama?
crashing the empire is not Mitt's intention; it is Obama's goal. Not to say the crash won't come anyway, but Romney slows the process a bit.
Not to say the crash won't come anyway, but Romney slows the process a bit.
Libertarian Voting Guide 2012:
Vote Romney if you haven't stocked up on apocalypse provisions yet.
Vote Obama if you're already stocked up.
I don't think Obama wants to crash the empire. He likes the power it provides too much. I really don't think the man is ideological at all.
I really don't think the man is ideological at all.
Seriously? Obama is nothing but an ideologue. It's in his DNA, literally. The man is so steeped in "America is wrong" politics that he can see nothing else. Besides, he envisions power beyond simply being president.
Romney didn't marry the ugliest Wookie he could find.
Fiscally.
Jerry Doyle has been framing it this way. Both choices suck. You can choose between socialism and crapitalism. Given that choice, I'll take crapitalism every time.
I want my vote to go to Johnson (and it will). But I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face.
I just haven't seen any evidence that Romney isn't just as much of a socialist (in ways that affect me, not in ways that affect JP Morgan) as Obama.
"Fiscally."
Seriously!? Romney's two main attacks on Obama is that he's cutting Medicare and Defense to the bone.
Yes, fiscally. But not the way you imply. You are talking about government spending.
The current administration is completely hostile to business. They do not understand wealth creation in the slightest. The only mechanism to fixing the economy is to allow wealth creators to create wealth.
Romney understands this and will, I pray, deregulate and allow business to function as it's meant to.
The debt affects the economy negatively, in that business feels they are going to get stuck with the tab (and they will under Obama) and that's a large part of the reason they are not investing in growth. Hopefully a Romney administration would allay those fears.
Yes, you are correct about the spending part. The Teams are the same WRT growing government, the only difference being where they want to spend our money. The spending needs to be addressed.
I think it's more of a choice between whether John Jackson's three cent titanium tax that goes too far and Jack Johnson's three cent titanium tax that doesn't go too far enough.
I wouldn't, just so I don't have to hear Obama's continuous condescension for another 4 years.
Fuck that guy.
All that said, I'm voting for GJ.
The man's already the country's biggest narcissist--I can't imagine how insufferable he'd become if he got a second term.
What is this "voting" you speak of?
Not directly a response to your question, but a lot of my friends who are Ron Paul fans seem intent on writing in his name. I have been encouraging anyone and everyone to just vote 3rd party. While I would like everyone to support Gary Johnson and the libertarian mantra, I understand that there are some out there who just don't like liberty for everyone that much. But even a vote for Jill Stein of the Green Party would be better than one for douchenozzle A or cumstick B.
As bad as the Greens would be for the economy, at least they'd end (or scale down) the WoD, and might take civil liberties seriously.
When I was semi-Green in 2000, they were really down on me for not supporting their anti-porn, anti-video game jihad.
anti-porn, anti-video game jihad
How the hell did so many college-aged men vote for them? It's almost like voters don't actually follow the issues.
"It's almost like voters don't actually follow the issues."
Here?! In the US??!! The heck you say!
If the only 3rd party on the ballot were the Communist Party of America, it'd be a better vote than for Robamney.
The American Communist Party officially endorsed Obama.
All I know is that I can accurately predict the outcome of an election by taking the inverse of my ballot.
I live in Illinois - I wonder why I even bother showing up at the polls sometimes.
I don't bother to show up. I vote absentee.
Same here, Obama is in dead girl live boy territory in IL and I'm not taking bets on the live boy. That said I'm voting for Gary Johnson and local elections matter somewhat as well although I'd argue the primaries mean more.
I'm voting for Johnson for the same-opposite reason.
I live in CA and if Romney wins here, it's going to be a 50 state sweep.
But Johnson finishing with a large vote total will send a message.
and that message will be "independents and libertarians are poopy-heads who should have voted for the greatest man ever in the most important election ever because we need to defeat Obamamlallaanaah."
Don't think the republicans will ever think they are running the wrong type of candidate or that the party is moving in the wrong direction. You know, the other side is more worser.
But Johnson finishing with a large vote total will send a message.
Mittens has a message for you:
HAHA! /muntz
I am sure Obama and Mittens will both sweat bullets over that 4% or whatever Johnson gets once they are in the White House.
The balls John, work the balls too.
Mary, do we need to write Allisi and get you banned again?
Didn't you already try that? Then why am I still here?
Oh right...
Because you just change the name slightly and get a new account. Reason hates your guts and wants you off their website forever. Again, do we need to rat you out or will you go quietly.
Nope. I'm the same Paul Ryan who's been posting for a while.
Nice admission on your part.
Have a nice day self-admitted rat.
You think he'll get 4%!

Given he openly admits he has a political ax to grind, I doubt his account is any more accurate than the administration's account.
I dunno what's creepier. That the Catholic church has a vial of Pope John Paul II's blood, or that people will come from afar to see it.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....kpack.html
The Catholic Church keeps a body part from most of the Popes as relics (I mean other than where they're entombed). I think a vial of blood is far less creepy than a finger with a ring on it, which I actually saw in one of the Vatican exhibits that traveled through Houston several years ago.

this has to be among the logical outcomes of the gay marriage debate: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/worl.....-19402508.
The case for traditional marriage has rested on three pegs: a union involving two people of opposite sex who are unrelated. If one of those three is ruled immaterial, the others are ripe for challenge. Can't say I much care who marries whom so long as no one's rights get violated and my money is not involved.
My objection to the Brazilian move is the notion of "family benefits" (read: govt goodies) for the participants. You get married because you want to, not for the swag.

I don't know. But I'm sure that Tony will get a big woody when he reads about the "wealth tax".

O H...
O..I..H..O!
One of Obama's extra seven states.
Trust me, no one in the non-hillbilly parts of the state really likes that shit-on-spaghetti.
Fuck Michigan.
On top of being classless, it's also painful to look at.
it's the same place that hired Urban Meyer, the guy who quit FL over "health concerns and wanting to spend time with family." Fucking tool; his butt-boy Tebow was gone and the world was about to change.
This, a thousand times this. I am relishing the fact that Florida has become marginal at best without their golden boy Tebow. I foresee them having another average season, maybe even not getting the 6 wins for a bowl appearance (and they load up their OOC schedule with at least 1, sometimes 2, Division 2 cupcakes a year!)
As long as they start 2-0 it's all good.
(and they load up their OOC schedule with at least 1, sometimes 2, Division 2 cupcakes a year!)
Holy Shit! You mean they joined the SEC?
let's see: Auburn opens with Clemson, Bama starts with Michigan, and Mizzou and TX AyM joined the SEC party. That's not quite Akron, Youngstown St, and Ohio U. Point is, EVERY big institution has at least one payday school on its calendar.
Oregon starts with Arky St and USC has Hawaii; not exactly a murderer's row.
Oh, boy! Two decent OOC games in the conference this year. Look through the past decade and tell me one of the better SEC schools that has played Texas twice, USC twice, UCLA twice, Washington and WSU twice.
Next 6 years: Cal twice (the deal was signed when Cal was a top flight program, as was the Washington deal from the last decade), Va Tech twice and Oklahoma. 2 years later, they have a home and home with UGA (which GA balked at, hoping for a one-off game at a neutral site like Atlanta, before finally relenting)
When SEC teams start playing home and home series with top flight programs, you might have something. But the almost never, ever do.
Arkansas did a home and home with USC in 2005/2006. USC beat the shit out of Arkansas in both meetings. And 2008-2009 Tennessee did a home and home with UCLA. The 2009 game in Knoxville was one of the most violent football games I've ever watched. Those guys were beating the shit out of each other. Tennessee lost both games, however.
and they load up their OOC schedule with at least 1, sometimes 2, Division 2 cupcakes a year
Also known as the "Bill Snyder Rule."
If Meyer was just jumping ship in order to extricate himself from the train wreck that is John Brantley's Florida Gators, then he'd have done it last year (or two years ago, instead of coaching for a season of said era) instead of taking a year off. OSU was the perfect landing spot for him (that team probably would have gotten 9 wins with an elite OC, which would have been something of a miracle considering how heavily the NCAA put the screws to them) and he'd have gotten an extra year to work with Braxton Miller, an ideal QB for his offense. Taking a year off was a stupid decision if all he was doing was furthering his career.
It was obvious he'd end up at OSU eventually (and is certainly a self-aggrandizing mercenary akin to Saban), but I think it's pretty likely that the "health issues" excuse isn't bullshit. Any doctor worth his salt would tell a workaholic in a high stress job with a heart condition that he needs to take some time off. It seem pretty likely that he actually listened.
he coached the extra season for appearances. It would have looked bad to leave with Tebow. He HAD to take the year off because the rationale for leaving UF was health and family. Jumping from one ship to the other would make him look exactly like the dishonest prick he is, and ESPN would not be blowing him at every turn.
Sorry, but the "health" this IS bullshit. That excuse puts you in the announcer's booth permanently or maybe you return as AD in a couple of years. But you don't jump from one cauldron to another. Meyer saw UF was on the downswing and his ego couldn't take it. I may not like Saban, but I can respect him, and I can respect that he figured out he's a college coach and not an NFL guy.
Have you ever stopped to think that maybe tOSU was his dream job and that he just needed a break before taking it? The Gators are a decent program, but don't have the history Ohio State has, especially to Meyer personally.
The SEC isn't the end-all be-all to every coach out there.
Meyer had no reason to keep up appearance; his time at UF was more than enough to make him a storied figure to that fanbase and the rest of the country already had him pegged as a merc. OSU was going to hire him unapologetically regardless of the situation, that he didn't jump in for 2011, when the timing was perfect for both sides, points to something else in the equation. Blaming it on Meyer's ego is hardly the simplest explanation (and being a crappy analyst for a season hardly offsets riding to the rescue of your historic hometown program in need).
Have you ever stopped to think that maybe tOSU was his dream job and that he just needed a break before taking it?
I doubt that a guy like Meyer has a "dream job" that lasts for more than a season, but that's certainly how it played out. Truth be told, I think that if the world's dumbest scandal never happened then Meyer probably would have bided his time in the booth for a few years and slotted in for Tressel around 2015 to end his career back home. But it turns out that his health problems weren't as bad as he initially thought and Tressel got the boot because of the dumbest scandal ever so the timetable got moved up by a few years. Oh well.
Speaking of Meyer, there was a long piece in ESPN the magazine this month about him. Might be worth checking out.
Now THAT'S comedy. I gotta get me one of those.
Thanks for the new wallpaper, SF. But I'm disappointed that you didn't also give the link on where I can buy them. I've got to finish my back to school shopping for my kids and that would have looked smart on my 12 year old son.

Why the GOP is "the party of old white people".
MSNBC can't let reality get in the way of the narrative.
They're going to lose their minds over Ann Romney, I just know it. Drudge is spreading catnip all over the place by headlining her picture with "Miss America"
Juan Williams called her nothing but a "corporate wife" whatever that is. Of course Michelle earned that tippling of her salary in 06. Her husband becoming a Senator had nothing to do with it.
They really think insulting every women who ever stayed at home with her kids is a good idea?
And it's the republicans who are waging a war on women.
And it's the republicans who are waging a war on women.
the ironic thing is that the politicians who have genuinely abused women tend to be Dems. See: Edwards, Clinton, the Kennedys.
If the republicans were smart, they'd be talking about the Dems war on children.
Their smarter slogan would also be We the People built it.
Apparently...
Frankly, I think they are afraid that bourgeois values might make a comeback.
Frankly, I think they are afraid that bourgeois values might make a comeback.
I'd say that's pretty obvious. For all of Obama's efforts to appeal to communitarianism (tied in with the Lakoff/Warren narrative), at heart progressives absolutely hate the very idea of small-scale, stable communities because these areas tend to be very WASP-y and conservative in their values. The reason that most small-town inhabitants tend to vote Republican or at least lean libertarian isn't because they're "going against their economic interests," it's because they know all too well how much liberal sophisticates hate their guts.
It's hard to agitate for "social justice" when most people are perfectly happy with their station in life and aren't envying their neighbor for what they possess.
a "corporate wife" whatever that is.
shareholders something something sex something something corporate taxes....
I know there's comedy gold in there somewhere, I just can't extract and forge it properly.
I honestly can't understand why people assume that Ann is that paragon of likeability.
Ann comes across as a high-end real estate agent. And that's not exactly my favorite persona.
To me it's like the people who declared John Edwards hugely likeable. I never got that, either.
I hated John Edwards from the moment I heard him speak. I must have been 13 or so.
maybe they look at someone who's been through cancer and has MS, and figure that could just as easily be them. Her money has not prevented unpleasant aspects of life from visiting. And, there are far worse things than high-end real estate people.
And, there are far worse things than high-end real estate people.
I don't know, dude.
If there are three doors leading to three bars, and door #1 leads to the high-end real estate agent middle aged woman bar, and door #2 leads to the union activist bar, and door #3 leads to the liberal poli sci professor bar, #1 is probably my last choice.
if those are the only choices, you start looking pretty good. #'s 2-3 would be good for laughs but I've known some of each and there is a shelf life of tolerance for that level of retard. At least the real estate gal is not afraid to work and she's not asking Big Nanny for a handout.
Isn't the NAR one of the biggest pushers of the mortgage interest rate deduction? Not a direct handout, but pretty close.
One of my neighbors is a Union Activist and another is oddly enough a high end real estate agent. Based on my experience Fluffy, I am taking door number 1 and it is not even close.
Meh, to engage in some fun stereotyping for a moment, the union activist is likely to be a really friendly drunken Mick who got his job because the members all like him. That translates to "fun bar" to me.
The liberal poli sci professor bar will be full of guys with beards who will be easily trolled and I can pretty easily turn that bar into "drunken freshman dorm politics discussion place" and I find that fun. (I know many people don't; it's a minority taste.)
But high end real estate agents? (Shudder) If you go to a place and more than one person offers you a business card with their headshot on it (shudder) that is a bad place.
I miss Cindy McCain and her yellow super-villainess dress.
The rich are worse off than the poor because they can't comfort themselves with the notion that all of their troubles would disappear if only they had money.
High end real estate agent is a good description. But her competition is Michelle Obama. Likability is a relative term.
This is very true.
Ann is definitely more likeable than Michelle.
Eva Braun was more likeable than Michelle.
Racist.
I'm astonished by the continued "high likeability" of the Obamas.
I don't really think its just that I disagree with their politics. I just think they are nasty, mean, narcissistic, duplicitous people, even for politicians.
What, exactly, is likeable about them?
Oh, and high-end real estate agent is excellent.
I'm using that one, along with Nick's "GOP infomercial".
What, exactly, is likeable about them?
They're black and well spoken, with no Negro dialect, unless thye wanted to have one.
I never got the people who thought Bill Clinton was likeable. First time I saw him, he struck me as scum.
Nah, I can see it.
I actually find the Family Guy portrayal of Bill C to be likely to be pretty true to life. And I would like that guy if I met him.
My wife worked as a White House intern for Clinton. And she says he is a great guy in person. And she is hardly a lefty.
My wife worked as a White House intern for Clinton.
Wait, Monica Lewinsky got married?
John's fondness for women with a lil' bit to grab onto suddenly comes into focus.
When I was there, it seemed like the pool of interns was bottomless. And yes, a disproportionate amount seemed attractive. Which was a little surprising, as most were (reputedly) the scions of the president's supporters.
Yeah Yeah. Fluffy, my poor wife has never heard that joke before. Thanks Monica. And ironically enough, she is a short brunette. I think the staff probably kept her away from Bill as much as possible.
My wife worked as a White House intern for Clinton. And she says he is a great guy in person.
Sociopathic charisma will do that.
Just think of the sales career Bubba could have had.
JW, just look at the sales career Bubba did have. Millions bought what he was selling
I knew a couple whose son worked for the secret service. He always said the Clintons were extremely likable and outgoing. The Gores, OTOH, were the opposite.
Used Car Salesman was my first impression.
I've known some used car guys. Great fun to hang out and drink with. Complete fucktards in their personal and professional lives. So yeah, Clinton is a used car salesman.
Used Car Salesman was my first impression.
I said scum didnt I?
Well, kind of in the sense of that guy you drink with that you don't trust but is fun to hang out with, anyway.
I would've met him at a staff party but blew him off for a date with some Ukrainian girl from my law school. To be sure, I thought I'd get another chance to meet the president, but perhaps it's better this way.
Well, kind of in the sense of that guy you drink with that you don't trust but is fun to hang out with, anyway.
Bingo. I would have a beer with him but would not let him with shooting distance of my wife. She, of course, finds him a charming rascal, that whole bad boy thing some women find appealing. On the other hand, she is old enough to recognize bullshit when she hears it.
He was reputedly bright enough, which is a dangerous combination with his charming sleaze.
Wait, Drudge bait people, never!
I didn't watch a second of Ann Romney's speech. Is she going to (for the most part) behave like Laura Bush and keep quiet and not lecture us every other day like America's First Schoolmarm?
If the answer is yes, I already like her a hundred times better than the Wookie pig.

Pedal to the metal, here we come.
I'm surprised New Zealand went for gay marriage before sheep/human marriage. There would be more votes in the latter, at any rate.
Here in Sydney the big argument is over the local Anglican diocese's demand that brides promise to submit to their husbands. Aaah, 1965...
I don't get why any women would agree to such a vow, but that's their problem, not the State's.
Isn't the Anglican Church part of the official state in England and Oz?
(serious question, as I don't know for sure)
Half-right sloopy. It is the established church in England and Wales. White Australia never had an established church, even in the early convict era.
The issue here is that for a religion's marriage vows to be a legal marriage, it has to be approved by the peak body (for Anglicans, the General Synod I think). Sydney is a diocese gone rogue. Of course, it helps that the Federal Attorney-General offering this opinion would also object violently to these vows on ideological grounds. I'm with Christina (or possibly beyond, as I'm yet to be fully convinced that any marriage should require state sanction)
The issue here is that for a religion's marriage vows to be a legal marriage, it has to be approved by the peak body.
As an ordained minister of the ULC, this is just bizarre to me. In theory, I can marry anybody I want with whatever ceremony I want and as long as the paperwork gets filed with the state, it's good. In fact, there is case law that says as long as the celebrants believe at the time that the officiant is empowered to perform a marraige, it's a valid marraige, even if it turns out later he isn't.
Of course, TX still has common law marraige, so I dunno. Anyhow, buy me some beer and I'll officiate your marriage whith any words you choose.

My friend Chuck Finley says everything's fine.
Michael Weston is running for school board here. Guess Miami got too hot. Not sure why he thinks the one letter will fool his enemies.
It worked for when he wanted to get a job pretending to be Dr. Gregory House's PI/friend?
That can't be. Obama told me the War on Drugs was over.

He's should be taught to sign his name "Gobble my hairless cock, fascists."
So should we all

Common sense has drowned, been shot, drawn and quartered, the pieces burned and the ashes spread on Nancy Pelosi's front yard.
But the grass has never been so green!
Since his name is Hunter, maybe they just want him to spray deer piss on his clothes as a sort of identifying sign.

The practice is illegal in the U.K, creating a windfall for some American doctors.
I've been traind by the American media, though, to always assume the word windfall is followed by tax. So, why are you advocating taxing these doctors?
Trotsky's grandson recalls ice pick killing
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-19356256
Trotsky was the good communist!! God what a load of crap that is. That murderous bastard would have stuck an ice pick in Stalin and killed just as many people had he been able to.
Communism is bound to fail. And when it does, someone has to be Goldstein.
When libertopia fails, who should be our Goldstein?
I think we should pick him/her our before hand.
Our Lucy is exempt, of course.
I volunteer. I would consider it an honor.
we will make a museum - private donations only - in your memory.
It depends - either the minarchic libertopia will devolve again into a corporate state again, or else the anarchic libertopia will devolve into gangs. (Pretty much the same result). So it depends on who the leader of each faction is.
I'm nominating Baked Penguin because he completely missed the point of selecting who is the target of the two minutes hate when we seize the levers of power.
I was going to go with Eric Dondero, but I've completely changed my mind.
Since I also missed the point of what tarran just said, I gladly accept his nomination.
That only happens if you have anarchy. Minarchic libertopia still has cops doesn't it?
Maybe, but that doesnt mean a corporate state doesnt develop, as the minarchy grows.
I think you have to have a preplanned reboot built into the system.
Ever 50 years there should be a year of jubilee, and then the system resets.
My point was that either society devolves into looter gangs. The forms those gangs take is different, but the institutionalized theft is the same.
I'm bookmarking this link as evidence of Baked Penguin's backsliding and tolerance for counter-revolutionary reactionary wrecker elements.
I think tarran just called you a splitter.
Yeah, I think so, J dub. What I don't get is that I thought being a counter-revolutionary reactionary wrecker element was the whole point.
It is, but show trials go easier when we don't have to make up *all* the evidence. 😀
Anyway, everyone who disagrees with me on anything *is* a splitter, I thought that would be obvious!
Trotsky wanted to bring the glories of the Soviet system to the rest of the world as soon as possible, while Stalin was more cautious.
That was the heart of their dispute.
So in effect their conflict boiled down to the fact that Trotsky was even worse than Stalin.
I'm not going to go that far:
Stalin was a monster to everyone.
At least Trotsky tried to keep his grandson out of the biz.
But absent that glimmer of humanity, I would agree 100% with you.
Maybe he should advertise his museum in the National Review. They after all had a nice article pointing out that Trotsky was not such a bad communist.

Lack of opportunity, not motivation. Plus, you're going up against some of the all-time greats here. When your competition in the evil bastard finals includes such luminaries as Lenin, Stalin, and Mao, you can still be a thoroughly evil fucker and still be not that bad in comparison.

Interesting take on Hannah Rosin's new book about how Women will rule everything.
So the real reason that someone allegedly feels empowered during a hook up is because that person is using someone else as a means to his/her own sexual pleasure. When feminists do this, it's called empowerment. When men do it, it's called sexual assault. The philosopher Immanuel Kant--who warns against using another person as a mere means to some end--was closer to the truth than the feminists when he wrote that sex "taken by itself . . . is a degradation of human nature."
I don't know about anyone else, but I don't know a single woman who would prefer a long list of anonymous partners to having a boyfriend and getting married. And even men, although they do better with cheap sex generally, eventually tire of it and get married or get a serious girlfriend. And what even this article fails to mention is that Rosin is married and has kids herself. If the hookup culture is so empowering for women, they hasn't she dumped her husband and embraced it. It is not like divorce is bad for children in her world or anything. Maybe she has and has some kind of alternative marriage. But I doubt it.
Honestly I don't understand the men who don't want partners either. I was always the guy looking for my wife, though, and I found her, so maybe I'm unusual.
Happy and stable, though, so I've got that in my favor.
Unless you are just a sociopath, eventually dating gets really old. The problem is that people get more attached to you than you are to them. When I was young I used to think getting dumped was the worst. Then I got older and realized dumping someone not because they cheated or were a bad person but just because you were tired of them and wanted someone new was even worse. Dating and hooking up gets to be a real pain in the ass after a while.
i dumped my last GF cause she made me miserable despite her psychotropic pill popping just like her mom. and yes, her dad was a cowed man who's balls were proudly on display above the mantle.
That would count as dumping a woman because she is a bad person. You conscience should be clear Orin.
I was thinking that she probably tells the same story.
Good move. Now get back out there and get laid.
the feminists keep trying to peddle the "men and women are no different" cant for as long as they have been around. Thus far, they have succeeded in confusing the shit out of one generation of women and they're working on the next. And you're right - virtually no woman walks around proud to be a hookup queen.
My wife is friends with a number of very cute, single, professional (accountants), cool women. They ALL want to meet a nice man, and settle down. I encourage them to sleep around a little, because men like that quality in women. But nooooo, they have self-worth, and values, and stuff.
And you're right - virtually no woman walks around proud to be a hookup queen.
"I don't have any problem getting men--BUT I SWEAR I'M NOT A WHORE!!!"
"virtually no woman walks around proud to be a hookup queen."
I guess you din't see the piece on the girl with the anus tattoo.
This is the Fox and the Grapes.
There have been a lot of stories about how women are screwed by the hookup culture, so that creates a market opportunity for counter-articles saying, "Nuh-uh! We never wanted to eat those grapes in the first place! We iz empowered!"
This is the Fox and the Grapes.

I can think of 2 whom I work with off the top of my head (although one of them has started to come around after about 3 years of random boning).
and, as a male, what is your opinion of them? If you had no girlfriend, would either hold any appeal for you beyond a quickie?
I briefly tried to go after both of them when I'd just met them (before I started dating my girlfriend). At this point (i.e. knowing them better), no. I'd still be interested in screwing them, but that's it.
And yes, this is largely due to their attitudes towards sex, but to be fair I think guys having a series of one night stands are also stupid.
I agree that it's no prettier when a man does it, but it does not seem to carry the stench quite as badly.
Guess I never quite got the "we can be just as whorish as any man" line of thought as being a good thing.
I think it's somewhat more accepted for men because it's a challenge. If a guy wants to sleep around like that he's got to work for it. If a girl wants that, she can do it really easily. She'd have to work at having a relationship, not sex.
And now I noticed that this:
may seem to be in conflict with this:
To clarify, I'd be interested in sex with them (they're hot, young, and like to screw), but wouldn't do it because they'd be out as soon as we finished.
A football coach has video of his own little kids dancing in the nood. He's facing felony charges. Was escorted off the field by security.
The evidence was hyped at first as hardcore child porn. Then it was other peoples' kids in the vid. Now it's just his kids dancing noood.
http://www.startribune.com/local/167102305.html
Last I looked nudist colonies were still legal. What is photography at them now illegal. It used to be that child porn had to be lude or lascivious. Now it is just any kid who happens to be naked. I guess kids are not allowed to ever take their clothes off. Maybe everyone should wear full body unitards until they are 18.
Just watched Python's Meaning of Life again recently, and thought to myself how the Sacred Sperm musical and it's intro skit would never have seen the light of day if the movie were made/released now.
Naked kids and kids singing about sperm? Death sentences all-round.
Uh oh, I texted my mom a picture of my son's first bath a couple of weeks ago.
social services will be knocking on your door by day's end. What the hell kind of monster are you?
Child rapist! I'm telling Obama on you!
Our home videos has some short segments of my daughter around 14 months old, running around the house naked. These are on 8mm VHS tapes and I briefly considered sending these out for conversion to digital.
Then I considered the police showing up at my house, when the transfer technician saw that and, pearls clutched, contacted the authorities about the kiddie porn she had just discovered.
I did the conversion myself.
Why on earth does it take the article 5 paragraphs before indicating the kids are his offspring in the 6th paragraphs? And when they do, it's as an aside:
Prosecuting attorney Michael Hanson, who argued in court that Hoffner shouldn't be allowed to have contact with his three children -- who were shown in the videos -- also declined to discuss the case.
because it spoils the narrative. Think about it; what gins up outrage more: a "coach" videotaping kids in the wake of the Sandusky case, or a dad taping his own children?
Because the whole fucking world has gone full retard re: children and nudity. Also, it's gotten to the point in this country that father's/men are immediately suspect for showing any sort of affection for children or really interacting with kids at all.
From the article: "In one video, all three drop towels covering their bodies and jump around, while an 8-year-old boy fondles himself and the two girls bend over and spread their buttocks."
I'm not sure that the fact that they are his kids makes this a case of affection for his children. Maybe it does or maybe the description isn't fair.
I feel like anyone who watched this video enough to provide said description should be prosecuted under child pornography laws as well.
You would think that Coach would've thought that these videos may draw unwanted attention to himself....
If the description of the video is accurate -- IF -- that's pretty creep, his own kids or not.
Toddlers periodically throw off their clothes. It happens. We had some neighbors awhile back with kids who were constantly running around the yard in various states of undress, having a great old time. It was completely harmless, and actually kind of cute.
A father, taping his kids being cute, does not twitch my creepiness meter.
"From the article: "In one video, all three drop towels covering their bodies and jump around, while an 8-year-old boy fondles himself and the two girls bend over and spread their buttocks."
That's a bit different from toddlers running around without clothes.
OK, Nightie, that is creepy, if true.
THIS
Is "an 8-year-old boy fondles himself and the two girls bend over and spread their buttocks" just "kids being cute" to you?
Actually, it could be, yeah. Sometimes kids do inappropriate things like show you their butts. They just don't know any better.
He used his University issued cellphone? What a fucking idiot.

What do you mean by "very Brazilian"? I'm Brazilian and I feel slightly offended.
If it makes you feel better, I'm American and I have no idea what that was supposed to mean.
But are you *very* American?
If he would have said two trannies then I would have understood.
thanks! I dream of the day when foreigners will make jokes about Brazilian insufferable statism rather than perceived depravity
Because you don't have 2 wives?
Nothing but good comes out of Brazil.
"very Brazilian" sounds painful.
in other words, Hollywood
Because Americans assume Brazilians are engaging in hot oiled up group beach sex 24/7, so it's natural to us that some guy would end up living with two Rumba ass exercise video models if he's Brazilian.
Or two female Heptahletes.
two female Heptahletes one cup
oiled up...beach sex
That sounds painful.
well that stereotype is not entirely correct; not everyone lives at beach cities here. Now excuse me, I need to get back to my morning orgy.

Film or it didn't happen. And even if it did, I would think most RNC attendees consider the MSM to be animals no matter what color they are.
I really doubt even a racist would be so stupid as to actually do this. They're aware how loathed they are.
If it happened, I'm guessing it was someone who didn't have any kind of racial angle planned.
Or, more likely (given that it was allegedly directed at a reporter and planned to be in front of the cameras) it was a false flag attack.
If they are humans, then, by definition, they are animals. Im not willing to grant members of the MSM the former, however.
Details are still hazy and a CNN spokesperson has so far declined to comment on the incident in any more detail except to say that, yup, something happened on Tuesday,
Crackerjack journalism.
If it happened its most likely a liberal activist trying to make the Rs look bad.
I think if that was the case, there would have been someone in the background filming this "spontaneous incident of racism."
More likely that Leighton is just making shit up.

wait, didn't we see this same kind of claim during Pelosi's march across the Mall during Obamacare vote?
Oddly, the cameras missed that too. The cameras must be made by Diebold.
It's not clear yet whether the alleged nut-tosser was a delegate, or merely attending as an amateur racist.
With the clear implication being that RNC delegates are professional racists. What a cunt.
Tractor pulls!!!
So let me get this straight; Meyerson believes that talking about work-to-welfare is a racist dog whistle because, in his own mind, he links welfare to the African-American community. This says a lot more about his own stereotypes than it does about the Republican Party, and certainly the Republicans that I know.
http://jhpolitics.com/2012/08/.....so-racist/
And the other question is, who exactly is Romney "dog whistling" to? Do liberals honestly believe there are millions of racist voters out there who were planning to vote for Obama until they heard the dog whistle?
Do liberals honestly believe there are millions of racist voters out there who were planning to vote for Obama until they heard the dog whistle?
a few likely believe it because they always have and their small circle of friends always has. The partisans don't care if they believe it; they simply know it as a tactic that, at one time, was fairly effective because it put the target on the defensive.
John, didn't you know? *Everyone* is a little racist. Even you.... and me.
This whole line of thinking is so moronic. Don't we have actual problems to address? Or to unaddress?
Do liberals honestly believe there are millions of racist voters out there who were planning to vote for Obama until they heard the dog whistle?
Sure, there called democrats.

You know what's weird for me? I can't stop remembering Bryan Cranston as Buzz Aldrin in the HBO miniseries, From the Earth to the Moon.
It's really strange thinking of Buzz making drugs and killing people.
Really? For me it's the dad from Malcolm in the Middle or Tim Whatley.
I guess I really liked that miniseries.
For the record, Hal turning to a life of crime it totally believable.
Probable, even.
Hal wasn't as smart as Walt. Not by a long shot. He'd have been caught a long time ago.
The dentist on Seinfeld.
Nope. One episode red shirt on Babylon 5.
I'm finally getting around to watching that show (saw some but not that many). What's the general opinion here?
I thought Babylon 5 was the best sci-fi series on television. Of course that is coming from someone that doesn't really like Star Trek, so take my opinion in light of that.
That should be interesting, watching it from the perspective of all the sci-fi that has been shown since then.
I'm re-watching the last 2 seasons currently and the writing holds up. Still high drama (at times, over the top) and the changed sophistication of tee-vee sci-fi over the past 15 years makes it seem somewhat dated, but it's still an epic story arc.
Lots of lemon episodes, lots of marginal-to-bad acting, chunky production elements (a victim of the tee-vee budgets and the technology and styles of the mid-90's) usually terrible directing, but still good characters, character development and compelling story-telling.
Well, I plan to watch it. I saw the first two episodes last night. I think the period when I actually watched some shows was quite a bit later.
It's free to watch on-line on the WB's site.
Don't have HBO, but I did watch Malcolm in the Middle back in the day.
It's available on DVD. I highly recommend it. Good production values all around, and quality acting. Not every episode was created equal, but a few were excellent.
Or Malcolm's dad. For much of the first season, I expected Malcolm to walk on set and ask for a tweak.
That's the first season of Breaking Bad. I didn't expect that on Malcolm.
Missed my chance to be a reason HyR story this morning. I had a chance to film a cop searching a car but food was more important.

Two liberal women to balance out the two liberal men is not representative enough of diversity. But having a black liberal woman would do the trick.
I tried reading the comments to that article. My brain is currently trying to leap out of my head and hide in the corner as a result.
I really do need to learn my lesson about reading comments to HuffPo articles.

Mia Love, some black women from Utah who apparently gave a good speech at the RNC, Wikipedia article was defaced almost immediately to call her a "whore who immediately sold out to corporate America". The Wiki editors being good little leftists they are, have since thrown the revision down the memory hole. So the link only shows there was a revision not how vile the revision was.
Republicans are often stupid and even vile. But liberals are downright fucking evil and sick. What the hell kind of person does that?
What the hell kind of person does that?
A tolerant person. Remember that tolerant people do not tolerate intolerance.
So by being black and supporting Republicans, this woman is obviously intolerant.
Calling her a "whore" is showing tolerance.
Also this.
Nothing lower than a runaway.
Defectors of conscious are always the most reviled.
Look at the penalty for being an apostate in Islam, the Religion of Peace. Not much worse if you are a liberal and renounce the obsession with power and control over others.
To consider her a "defector" requires the assumption that she was a liberal in the first place. The liberal conception that there cannot be such a thing as a gay or black conservative and that the existence of such people indicates traitorous behavior is the most bigoted and racist thing of all. Assuming a person's skin color or sexuality indicates their politics is a monstrously arrogant proposition.
Assuming a person's skin color or sexuality indicates their politics is a monstrously arrogant proposition.
Better, I think.
People who are obsessed with power will do anything to gain power and even more to hold onto it.
A cursory glance at every leftist ideology and demigod of the 20th Century confirms this.
They all had good intentions. Every one of them.
Like Will Smith said:
"Even Hitler didn't wake up going, 'let me do the most evil thing I can do today.' I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backwards logic, he set out to do what he thought was 'good.'"
Your problem is that you focus on results instead of intentions.
What the hell kind of person does that?
A stupid dickstain who's allowed their political ideology to completely consume their identity to the point where they're not even a real person anymore but are, instead, a vapid brainless sock puppet?
See: Buttplug, Palin's. Also T o n y.
See also Stack, Mary. Her antics are a view into the fever swamps.
Are her antics really motivated by political ideology, or are they just the ravings of a lunatic BATH SALTZ addict? Batshit crazy doesn't necessarily require a motive.

The Suez Canal is a narrow waterway and it is impossible for military action to take place there
I would think that would make it dead easy for military action to take place there. You'll never get an easier target, Mohab.
Yeah, it's fine if they don't want to fire on someone, but that line is stupid.
Really?
Do you idiots have any concept of what it does to a channel to have a shipwreck in the middle of it?
I think this story is bullshit anti-US-govt propaganda (the Navy would never request a foreign Navy do something provocative like this. The USN would board the ship on the high seas), but if the U.S. had made such an imbecilic request, the response is absolutely correct.
Do you have any concept of how irrelevant your point is to the possibility of performing military action there?
"...but if the U.S. had made such an imbecilic request..."
Heh. You forget who the commander in chief is. This administration is something out of a twighlight zone episode.
It does seem like egyptian propaganda, but then obama has done so many bizarre things that defy belief I am torn.
Totally sounds like the rest of "leading from behind" to ask the Egyptians to do our dirty work.
I seriously doubt that you would have to hole a cargo ship below the waterline to get it to stop in the canal, in any event.
Or even fire on it. There aren't any locks on the Suez, but I would be surprised if there was no way to block a ship from leaving it.
I suspect that line is poorly phrased in English, but that it is either an awkward translation from the original or an English-isn't-my-native-language self-translation by chairman Mamish.
The original thought was probably more in line with the ones we had: sitting ducks, yeah--GREAT idea! Who needs the other side of the canal anyway? Only in Arabic.
I would think that would make it dead easy for military action to take place there. You'll never get an easier target, Mohab.
Of course. This is precisely why the Panama Canal has a large (former) US Air Force base right next to it.
A U.S. request? What does that mean? They could very well be lying. If not then 'U.S. request' means 'Obama requested'. I cant decide which is more likely.
The only source is the Egyptian Navy, and the story doesn't fit the way the USN did business when I was in it.
It's bullshit propaganda to whip up anti-American sentiment in the mid-east among the proles.
The Seals certainly knew their bosses
Bissonnette also writes disparagingly that none of the SEALs were fans of President Barack Obama and knew that his administration would take credit for ordering the May 2011 raid. One of the SEALs said after the mission that they had just gotten Obama re-elected by carrying out the raid.
But he says they respected him as commander in chief and for giving the operation the go-ahead.
Bissonnette writes less flatteringly of meeting Vice President Joe Biden along with Obama at the headquarters of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment after the raid. He says Biden told "lame jokes" no one understood, reminding him of "someone's drunken uncle at Christmas dinner."
http://www.washingtontimes.com.....#pagebreak
most people have no issue with POTUS taking a little bit of credit. Sometimes, simply being in the right place has benefits. But it's the endless parade of "I did...." that is just sickening, like this fucker planned the mission and pulled the trigger himself.
Imagine if, near the election, it had come out that obama had the chance to get bin laden and did not do it.
The so called courageous decision was bullshit. He had no choice in the matter. I bet the military would have done it no matter what obama said, and not doing it would have been political suicide for obama.
I recall from the pictures of him in the situation room that he looked like some spoiled kid who had been told "No!". My instinct on seeing the photo was that he was being made to do something he really did not want to do. Maybe that is just me.
See that dead bin Laden over there? You didn't do it. Somebody else made that happen.
In the account related by administration officials after the raid in Pakistan, the SEALs shot bin Laden only after he ducked back into the bedroom because they assumed he might be reaching for a weapon.
In reality, the point man shot him in the fucking head as soon as he saw him. Uh, yeah. Let's see, we should have expected less? We should have expected the first American military man to ever see OBL to let him out of his sight and let him maybe pick up a weapon?? That would definitely not have been a good little SEAL.
It happened so fast, I would be very surprised if he had any idea who he shot. The orders I am sure were "go in and kill every male in the compound". That is war. War sucks.
I understand that's pretty much SOP on these kind of deep penetration raids. No margin for calculating who deserves a bullet, so everybody gets one.
"Bullets for everyone! Free burials for some."
smile
Another good reason no-knock raids in American homes are a terrible, terrible idea.
A major difference being, when the troops kick in the wrong door, they at least get a court-martial.
rubbish
no-knock raids are VASTLY overused, and there must be very substantial justification for them, but they are not a bad idea.
they are merely, like SWAT itself, a very necessary and beneficial practice that have been GROSSLY abused
SEAL 6 isn't in the business of taking prisoners.
We should have expected the first American military man to ever see OBL to let him out of his sight and let him maybe pick up a weapon??
"If your killer instincts are not clean and strong you will hesitate at the moment of truth. You will not kill. You will become dead marines seals and then you will be in a world of shit because marines seals are not allowed to die without permission."
[Bissonnette] says Biden told "lame jokes" no one understood, reminding him of "someone's drunken uncle at Christmas dinner."
Please Joe, run for president in 2016. This country could use a good laugh.
I would definitely get behind that bid.

Hoarding for the happy day organ selling becomes legal and he/she can really clean up. "Lot 64, half a liver, one careful lady owner, bit rubbery but still works, what am I bid?"

Chuck Todd brings the stupid as only he can.
"Todd: GOP Putting Minorities In Front At Convention To Appear Diverse"
So...a group that includes various ethnicities doesnt front people of only one ethnicity in a scheme to appear diverse.
Those sneaky Republicans.
Of course if all of the speakers were white, that would be racist too.
they clearly shouldn't have speakers at RNC at all - they should just hold hands and sing Kumbaya until their brains melt from the boredom.
Mark Bowden has an Obama fellating book in the pipeline for October 16.
"The story focuses on Bin Laden, who maintained a stream of despairing correspondence in hiding in the year before his death, and on President Obama, perceived by many as an anti-war candidate, whose evolving views and enormous responsibilities have turned him into one of the most determined warriors to ever inhabit the White House.
Bowden's book is an unrivaled account of the most high-profile special forces operation ever to have been undertaken, and a page-turning narrative of how the man behind 9/11 was finally brought to justice."
Obama, perceived by many as an anti-war candidate, whose evolving views and enormous responsibilities have turned him into one of the most determined warriors to ever inhabit the White House.
Aaaaarghhh!!!! Unless Obama personally went through SEAL training, flew to Afghanistan, and went on the raid with SEAL team 6, he is not a "warrior". Fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck!!! How the hell did this crotchstain manage to write that with Obama's cock stuffed down his throat?
George Washington
Andrew Jackson
Ulysses Grant
Theodore Roosevelt
Dwight Eisenhower
Barack Obama
Determined warriors, all.
I just don't understand why any police department in America would hire a cop with a history of violence. Of course, if they were prosecuted for the abuse, it would be a moot point, but since they almost never are, departments should look at an officer asked to leave multiple departments with a skeptical eye.
Otherwise, things like this tend to happen.
FTA
But there's no such thing as quotas!
Dunphy told me so!
The NYPD station house: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.
I swear to God, it's like giving license to a bunch of adolescent bullies to just do whatever they want. I could never live in that hellhole. Ever.
No need for simile. It is giving license to a bunch of (mentally) adolescent bullies.
Several months after the arrest, the charges were dismissed.
I'm kind of surprised they didn't hold the charges over his head to get him to drop his lawsuit. They must be slipping. Or is that another thing that never actually happens in real life, and only anti-cop bigots believe?
Looks like the LAPD decided to wrongfully arrest and beat the fuck out of the wrong guy. I guess he's lucky he wasn't looking for a burger at a Fullerton Jack In The Box.
I hope he takes this all the way to court and empties their pockets.
Nothing will happen. He admitted to being on drugs. That means he's lucky the cops didn't execute him. I mean, he's a drug user. He's not even human. He's just a drug user.
When officers encountered Mulligan, he allegedly told them he was high on marijuana and "White Lightning," a bath salt, and hadn't slept for days.
A screen for controlled substances at the scene came back negative, so police dropped Mulligan off at the motel to sleep.
Unless they recorded him saying he was high, I think I'll have to call bullshit on that. Of course, since officer testimony is treated like the word of God in court, it won't really matter, but still, I'm calling bullshit.
Well, the wind is picking up pretty good here. The wife just called and said she is on her way ; non-essential personnel are being sent home. I guess I better get my ass up from here and straighten things up a bit so I will leave all this important work to y'all.
I expect Isaac's eye to be over my house by tomorrow morning.
Good luck, and stay safe.
Take care. I have some friends down in the Pearlington area and they're battening down.
Good luck, man. Hope you and yours stay safe.
Cop's authority boner knows no bounds.
Red vs. Blue!
can't speak for NJ statutes but the article claims the FD has authoritah in regards to traffic at such scenes, and that IS the case in my state
most likely, the cop did have an authoritah boner and the firefighter was in the right.
i know some cops who REALLY resent and dislike firefighters, btw. i think it's weird, but i see it
Talked to a few firefighter and cop friends in Jersey, and they unanimously agreed the FD has jurisdiction here. That being said, Trenton cops are notoriously terrible in almost every regard.
Makes perfect sense to me.
Why throw your vote away on a third party? Let's work to change the party from within!
Mitt Romney received his scripted nod from the Republican delegates, and to rub it in, the GOP made a last-minute rule change so that Ron Paul's votes wouldn't be counted.
*puts fingers in ears*
One of Mitt Romney's floor whips had other ideas and attempted to block out his sign with a Romney sign before a convention staffer confiscated it.
*turns to face in different direction*
Fuck these bitches so hard:
Feminists accuse a Ron Paul supporter of congnitive dissonance.
Posted by a man, of course. Because he knows what's really in her interests.
Lol, the filters here at work are blocking Jezebel, apparently it falls in the 'Entertainment' category. Sounds about right.
