A nice interview with Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson on his school choice credentials:

If we had genioune free market approaches to education and the delivery of education services, we would have anything but big corporate America participating in this. We would have a groundswell fo educational entrepreneurs that would deliver better products, better services, at much lower prices."

Legislators believe that writing something down magically makes it happen. Governors have to deal with what legislators write down.

Although I'll grant that some of the worst of the worst have come from Congress: Obama, Bush 1, Nixon, LBJ, Truman, Andrew Johnson, Lincoln.

Better does not mean best. I'm thinking Clinton versus Obama here. It did not escape me that Bush II was a governor too.

But to push the comparison, there was a string of legislators in Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford. The middle two especially were even worse than Obama with regard to believing that legislation magically makes reality. Carter, frankly, gets too little credit for deregulation, for repealing crappy legislation.

Even products beyond the traditional brick and mortar schoolhouse experience. Online stuff obviously, but I'm also thinking stuff like food trucks (slinging hot knowledge instead of food...or both), more at-home tutors, more computer camps instead of summercamps, etc etc etc

A plethora of innovative options to make kids smarter on the cheap.

But, but, but, public schools are GOOD for kids because they teach them how to interact with other people from different backgrounds. Don't you know that private school kids are insulated from the real world and homeschoolers are little more than completely feral?
