Red-Light Cameras Disappearing in North Carolina
With the town of Cary's decision to end its camera program, only three municipalities still use the devices
CARY -- With little fanfare, Cary officials axed one of the state's last red-light photo enforcement systems on Thursday night. The motion to discontinue the town's SafeLight program drew no comment from the Cary Town Council.
"A motion, and a second … discussion?" said Mayor Harold Weinbrecht as the council reviewed a slate of consent items. Then: "Motion carries unanimously."
The town will continue to issue citations for up to two weeks as it voids its contract with Redflex, the Australia-based company that administers camera systems across the world.
