Government Mini Golf: The Federal Regulations For Putt-Putt Courses
Next time you hit a golf ball past a tiny model windmill in a game of miniature golf, it will probably be on government-regulated course.
Under the umbrella of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the federal government has issued new regulations governing the size, slope, and even the length of the grass fibers used on the course. Via Ryan Young of the Competitive Enterprise Institute:
The federal government regulates the slopes of miniature golf courses. The new standard "permits a slope of 1:4 maximum for a 4 inch rise where the accessible route is located on the playing surface of a hole."
If a course uses artificial turf instead of grass, it also regulates length for the fibers. The height of the "grass" shall not exceed half an inch.
The so-called "start of play" areas must be at least 48" x 60", and shall not have a slope steeper than 1:48.
Miniature golf isn't the only type of fun the new rules regulate: According to the federal register, the new guidelines "include scoping and technical provisions for amusement rides, boating facilities, fishing piers and platforms, golf courses, miniature golf, sports facilities, and swimming pools and spas."

I must be missing a page or two from my copy of the Constitution...
And if someone had said back when the ADA was being debated "this thing will end up with putt putt courses being regulated" all right thinking people would have laughed at them for being a paranoid right winger.
The slippery slope argument isn't actually a fallacy when it's true.
I'm not sure what you're talking about. A 1:4 slope over 4" isn't all that slippery.
It is if you cover it with bananna peels
Next up:
Kick the can regulations.
About damn time, my putt-putt experience was woefully unpredictable. I now know what to expect when I show up for a quick round on the midget links.
I hate to use the term "micro-aggression" in this case, but....
OMG, this would be HILARIOUS...if it weren't so NOT hilarious.
Like we don't have enough local issues with putt putt courses?
The neighboring town of Hell (yes, Hell, MI - it's not the whole state) had a big dust up last year about a putt putt course and local ordinances and town councils and lawyers and the local shop owner who just wanted to open the damned course and it was all done and the money spent and it was his own damned property by his store that was already there so why was it an issue and the town's just a Johnny One Note semi-tourist attraction with not much more than his store and a traffic light and he couldn't open it and it was all a mess and there were lawyers, guns and money...
but now Uncle Sugar will step in to fix it all. Praise GAW-DUH!
Because some people are handicapped and can't walk up a slope, everyone must be deprived of playing on golf courses that have slopes and be subjected to federal regulations telling them what their courses can and cannot look like. Yeah, that makes sense. And just makes me love the fucking handicapped and their political activists.
deprived of playing on golf courses that have slopes
So give the asians their OWN course, amirite?

Oh how I've missed that little bastard!
And what makes you think he was born out of wedlock?

In the steeplechase, the height of the barriers will be reduced to two inches, with slopes on both sides. And the depth of the water jump will be limited to at most three inches.
Braille on speed limit signs will be
mandatory.
Oh, I could go on endlessly like that.
...Canadians will require signs to be posted in both English AND French...oh, wait...
Not in Quebec....

The good thing is, he finally got to open his little Golf Course, bless his capitalistic heart.
All eighteen holes are handicap accessible
RAAAAAAAAAAACIST! Everyone knows the proper term is "crippled".
HANDI-CAPABLE!
*Barf*
But I have to admit that the vision of some bureaucrat on his hands and knees measuring the length of the fake grass fibers sort of makes me laugh.
The problem is it won't be a bureaucrat, it will be an ambulance chasing lawyer doing it secretly at every mini golf place he can drive to, then when he finds one which is a millimeter out of compliance he'll find a nearby handicapped person to file a suit against the course for.
Better call Saul!
This^^^^
I'll be in my wheelchair working on my putts.
I'll be in my wheelchair working on my putts putz.
Hey, does this mean Casey Martin on the PGA can use a cart now? Or does this just apply to putt putt?
CRIPPLE FIGHT!
/Cartman
Why do Libertarians hate the crippled ?
Well for one thing, they use canes but they forget the tophat and monocle. It's uncouth.
Seriously?
At least it didn't cover disc golf courses.
Shit, did I just give the statists another idea?
This sucks, the really hilly minigolf courses are the ones that are the most fun!
We have one called Mt. Atlanticus. They probably have to condemn the whole thing.
They should make sure to let everyone know it's the fault of the disabled.
What, and dispense with the raid by armed federal agents?
"There had goddamn well BETTER be a permanently-mounted wheelchair lift next to that water hazard!"
I think trebuchet would be more fun.
Can we get a federal regulation outlawing those stupid windmills you have to putt through before you reach the hole?
Fucking things get me every time.
I like mini golf a lot. So much that I sort of brought it home with me through ball targets from http://shop.annestone.com/coll.....t-a-round. That's what I use for putting practice indoors.
