Ron Paul Roundup: Sinister Take on His Delegate Strategy, Super Tuesday Hopes, and Vote Shenanigans in Washington?
The Daily Beast finds something untoward about the energy and intelligence of Ron Paul fans in the Republican Party, with a headline "How Ron Paul's Minions Plan to Hijack the GOP Convention." Shocking details of the crime-in-progress, from Georgia where Ron Paul people know the GOP rules in ways others do not:
The Paul campaign has rigorously organized its volunteers to attend the mass precinct meetings that took place all over Georgia. It has been instructing supporters on parliamentary procedure and state Republican rules. It is also giving advice on convention etiquette….
A Paul supporter in my hometown of Warner Robins, GA described how the strategy played out at Houston County's mass precinct meeting last Saturday. (Video of the meeting is available here.) The story he tells, and one I've corroborated with other witnesses, is one of chaos. The GOP county leadership is aware of the strength of the Paul wave, but handcuffed by state party rules designed to bolster the party by allowing large numbers of people to get involved.
These meetings have not always been well attended, so it becomes common practice for names to be added to delegate lists, even if those people are not present at the meeting. The low attendance coupled with the openness to adding random names to delegate lists leaves them vulnerable to insurgencies like Paul's. Knowing this, the Paul campaign had distributed lists of local supporters' names to attendees. It instructed supporters to fill in the vacant slots with loyal names.
My friend described the disruption that followed:
Near the end of the caucusing it became known that names were being nominated as delegates who were not present at the meeting. This practice was encouraged by the Ron Paul campaign which has made it clear that they are running a delegate strategy. When the chairperson caught word of this, confusion ensued. He instructed everyone that this was not permissible under the rules and the crowd shouted back. However this is acceptable and the Ron Paul campaign had even directed its delegates to the state rulebook for proof.
…Members of the county leadership, especially those with "Newt Gingrich 2012" stickers, did not have a pleasant and supportive attitude during this process. It also became clear to me at this point that the people who knew the rules were Ron Paul supporters. There were dozens of people, mainly young and middle aged, who reacted to this controversy exactly as the Ron Paul delegates were trained to do.
…
I have seen a few comments about this event afterwards, and one specifically complained that the Ron Paul backers attempted to hijack the event and they caused all the problems. From what I saw the Ron Paul supporters were very close to a majority if they did not have one outright at the meeting. It is my understanding that this event was the other way around, the county GOP leadership attempted to hijack the meeting away from the majority.Members of the GOP may try and find other ways to block Paul's supporters, but their options are limited when the Paul campaign uses each state's Republican Party rules against it. The evidence suggests that events like this one in central Georgia are playing out all across the nation.
*Meanwhile, Paul came in a distant second in the Washington state caucus straw vote on Saturday. A Ron Paul supporter has a first-person account of would-be caucusers being turned away in droves in Benton County, Washington, with the Tacoma News-Tribune's site reporting 1,500 turned away.
As the comment thread in this Politico account (which assumed against evidence in the headline that Benton County was Santorum country) makes clear, supporters of all candidates were turned away, and so there's no way to know if they would have voted statistically differently enough from those who did vote to change the county's results from a Romney victory. Still, one more blow to the integrity of the caucus process after troubles in Iowa and Maine both lead to state GOP chairs stepping down.
Meanwhile, Associated Press reports someone was trying to quell voter turnout in Washington with robocalls announcing that the whole caucus has been called off.
A video of Ron Paul people announcing their own collected data of the actual delegate counts coming out of a bunch of Washington precinct meetings.
*Also, a video of a county GOP convention in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, in which Ron Paul people fight back (and win) over a bunch of Paul supporters whose delegate credentials were being temporarily denied. Oklahoma's Tuttle Times with a detailed account of how the whole precinct-to-district-convention delegate selection process works in that state.
*Ron Paul tells Face the Nation he has hopes for winning a majority of delegates Super Tuesday in caucus polls in Alaska, North Dakota, and Idaho.
Regardless of tomorrow, the Detroit Free Press argues that the GOP race will be a live contest through to California.
My forthcoming book, Ron Paul's Revolution.

You know, just this morning we were discussing how reason doesn't run enough articles about Ron Paul.
Who is this Ron Paul fellow? Is there a book about him that I can read?
I don't know about a book, but I hear there are some newsletters...
I heard you can be redirected to the NAACP leader on his take of Ron Paul-- which is a complete dismissal of those bogus letters. 😉
Before you read any book, just visit dailypaul.com
Here, Dr. Paul, let me help you carry that baggage.
"Immigrants can spread diseases for which we may have no immunity. There is also the question of crime and culture. Many immigrants come from countries with different legal structures and are not willing to behave in the way we expect American citizens to behave."--Ron Paul
Arf!
"Given the inefficiencies of what DC laughingly calls the criminal justice system, I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal."--Ron Paul
Dance, monkey, dance!
What-eveh, Dean-o. Maybe you should have some respect. Max took off valuable time from his constant mom-raping schedule to come here and infect some knowledge into your brainholes.
infect some knowledge into your brainholes
I'm not sure that knowledge he's infecting people with. Or putting it in their brainholes. Unless that's the what the kids are calling it these days.
I am no "kid." I exist outside of time and eternal.

Exhibit A: His Beliefs Demand an Anti-Racist Agenda
"Libertarianism is the enemy of all racism, because racism is a collectivist idea that you put people in categories. You say, well blacks belong here, and whites here, and women here and we don't see people in forms..or gays. You don't have rights because your gays, or women or minorities, you have rights because yo}'re an individual. So we see people strictly as individuals. We get these individuals in a natural way. So it's exactly opposite of all collectivism and it's absolutely anti-racism because we don't see it in those terms. " - Ron Paul
Date and Source please
That has yet to be seen, since the caucuses were non-binding.
Exactly. Caucuses are a clusterfuck, and the way the RP supporters have been running them, such chaos has only worked to their advantage.
The real surprise of this primary season is going to be the number of RP delegates on the convention floor this summer.
Ditto for Iowa and a few other states.
Allowing a candidates supporters to understand and use convention etiquette is a loophole that must be closed.
Luckily, both parties are allergic to closing loopholes. Unfortunately, this means they'll just write even more specialized rules. But not before 2012 is over!
Ron Paul really know the Constitution:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul148.html
"The notion of a rigid separation between church and state has no basis in either the text of the Constitution or the writings of our Founding Fathers. On the contrary, our Founders' political views were strongly informed by their religious beliefs. Certainly the drafters of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, both replete with references to God, would be aghast at the federal government's hostility to religion." --Ron Paul "The War on Religion"
Re: Maxipad,
He certainly knows more than you do, pet yorkie.
Joe M is correct, and that sentence hasn't been there since 4 min after this post went up. While drafting this piece, I had seen a second-hand account of Paul's FTN appearance that mistakenly stated Paul was declaring a POPULAR VOTE victory, and that sentence was there about THAT possibility. When I learned more about the FTN thing first hand, I corrected that sentence while leaving the now-mistaken sentence there for a minute. Which has been gone since 4 min after the post went up.
Haha, okay okay! Into the memory hole with it. Still, I think there's a tiny chance, non-zero of victory in Alaska or North Dakota.
The Ron Paul challenge: Find a reference to God in the Constituion.
Constituion? Trolling grade: 2/10 (dinged for poor spelling)
No, you get extra points for poor spelling.
The Max is an idiot challenge: Find a functioning braincell in Max's head.
Find authority for the new healthcare law in there while you are at it.
Re: Maxipad,
What's a "constituion", pet yorkie?
You could call this strategy ... "the Obama method". It's how a man with insignicant experience, no power and no vision got elected. The Dems successfully calculated a path to the nomination through accumalation of delegates. The difference with Ron Paul is the ability to trust that what you see is what you get.
He won't be running for the House anymore. He doesn't need the Republican Party after the primaries anymore.
He needs to run as an independent. Hmm, getting on ballots, though.
yeah, he doesn't need the party...but his son does.
Poor Max is just frothing at the mouth about RP's strategy. I love it.
I think RP's delegate strategy is awesome. Fuck the Republican party, and the Democrat party with a double dong.
Isn't that what they're always doing anyway? Ass to ass?
Unfortunately we (the American people) are in the middle, and get it from both sides.
Actually it's more like we (the American people) are having a train run on us.
He won't be running for the House anymore. He doesn't need the Republican Party after the primaries anymore.

Woops. Sorry about this dupe. Delete it if you like, please.
I don't think you did it. you and "shama's" comments both repeated.

This article is just a bit ridiculous. Ron Paul supporters are now being criticized for knowing how the process works! Even if it is clearly flawed all candidates can exploit it equally if their own supporters took the time to learn how the process works. Next thing we'll hear is that Paul supporters turned up to vote! How dare they!
"this article" is just reporting facts without comment.
Agreed (assuming the comment refers to the source articles, not Doherty's post). Just to recap: the two major political parties made up the rules to benefit party insiders; Ron Paul has figured out a way to operate within said rules to benefit himself rather than the party insiders; and Ron Paul has a ton of willing volunteers to help him to win delegates while working within the system created by the major parties. And this is a problem because...?
WHAT PART OF "YOU FUCKING PEASANTS" DONT YOU FUCKING PEASANTS UNDERSTAND?!?111ONEONEONE
I admire Paul's honesty, but this won't do him any favors.
http://www.thestatecolumn.com/.....o-victims/
He's right. You should have insurance.
He is, of course, correct. It isn't like the federal government has money that the states don't have...oops, except for that borrowing power. Trouble is, Uncle Sugar's charge card is maxed out.
I'm afraid this is the dirty secret. State pols love federal aid because it means they can evade the reality of having to get the citizenry to agree to pay the bills for all the vote buying.
Mind you, it's not a well kept secret. It's just one that a large portion of the electorate choose to ignore.
I do agree with him, it's just most people will let their moral outrage dictate how they view this. To them he's just a heartless libertarian Darwinian capitalist or some such nonsense.
"To say that any accident that happens in the country, send in FEMA, send in the money, the government has all this money?it is totally out of control and it's not efficient,"
I think a better way to argue the point is that state and local agencies would be more efficient at cleaning up after natural disasters. Unfortunately it probably will be spun as "Ron Paul doesn't care about tornado victims".
I don't understand how educating your voter base on the workings of standard caucuses counts as "hijacking." Sounds more to me like using legitimate methods that give a lot of power to people who don't have money. It's not like they're hiding anything.
Playing by the rules is a violation of everything the Republican party stands for.
Win.
It's just people crying "unfair" when others understand the rules better than they do.
Fuck you, that's why.
It's "hijacking" because it's Ron Paul. If Mittens, Titties, or Frothy were doing it it would be no big deal.
Shorter Doherty "Private club run for benefit of insiders and cronies. Outsiders trying to participate in private club stymied, frustrated. Shockingly, the outcome of the private club's process will be to nominate someone approved of by cronies and insiders."
Ron Paul is (sadly) done. Super Tuesday may deliver Alaska at best.
You Republicans (Thacker and fluffy are not*) need to lay back and enjoy Willard Romney's big spending cock in your ass for the next six months. You will be happy when you learn to love it.
*(Episiarch is a misanthrope and therefore not LP).
Fuck off.
Shrike, if you ever got a clue how stupid you are, they would have to put you on a suicide watch.
+3
Shame on you. What else do you know?
It's Tacoma, not "Takoma".
The link is from the News-Tribune, but following it shows it to be the Tri-City Herald, which is the local paper for part of Benton County (Richland).
Hee hee. They're from DC where there's a neighborhood and a Metro stop called Takoma. They can't help it.
I have the same problem, because I lived in the Nuclear-Free Republic of Takoma Park for part of my fellowship.
I live in Los Angeles, where all "Takoma/Tacoma"'s are faraway legends. But fixed!
I went from Phoenix Arizona/all the way to Tacoma/Philadelphia, Atlanta, LA/Northern California where the girls are warm/So I can be with my sweet baby, yeah
I'm not sure I'd even have heard about Tacoma if not for that song.
Te: tacoma
You know when you're there because you can smell it starting around Fife.
Tachikoma-what now?
So knowing the rules to an election is "Shenanigans"?
How is studying the rules and developing an election strategy "hijacking" the election?
"Sinister" indeed.
Call all media outlets by the owners name...U.S.A Today doesn't represent all the beliefs of the USA. Washington Post...doesn't represent Washington's populations view. This trick can easily exposed and stopped by calling these view steering machines by the owners name.It reduces their power to influence. Ron Paul has activated the Green Book...he has my support.

Some people like to say perception is reality.
They are wrong, reality is reality. And this is an example of it. The perception is that Ron Paul isnt winning many delegates (see, for example, the delegate counts of any of the major media outlets). The reality is much different. Not enough to overcome Romney, but more than a lot of people are thinking.
People who only follow CNN are going to be surprised at the number of votes Paul gets in round 1 at the convention.
This is off topic but as I was driving home from the office at the 3 o'clock hour, I made the mistake of turning my radio onto MSNBC. Apparently they have given Martin Bashir his own show. Previously the only way I heard of this guy was due to his sycophantic interview with Michael Jackson where he pretended that he asked hard hitting questions.
He was discussing Limbaugh's Slutgate with a bunch of other like-minded Dem idiots with not even a slight opposition viewpoint being put forth. Twenty minutes later, when I got back from doing my grocery shopping, he was still at it!
So I am asking, is this guy the new Olbermann for MSNBC being groomed to be their top conservative hater?
I finally made it onto Reason! well sorta, I was at the mass precinct meeting in warner robins mentioned in the article. Our county convention is saturday and it is looking very likely that we will have the majority and be able to send a lot of delegates to our district and state convention.
Something tells me a lot of state GOPs are going to be changing their caucus rules soon...
Except that in many of those areas it is Paulites now setting the caucus rules.
So neocon David Frum is unhappy about Ron Paul supporters electing delegates to the convention. Who would have guessed?
Ron Paul is a flawed candidate and his handling of the newsletters disqualifies him to be POTUS. But he was never going to be president anyway. The simple fact is that the Republican Party needs a lot more Ron Paul and a lot less David Frum. So - soldier on Minions of Ron Paul! Your guy will not get the nomination, but I expect your enthusiasm and delegates will having a bigger and more salutary influence on the Republican Party than David Frum could ever hope to achieve. And that is a good thing.
"Flawed candidate"? Compared to whom? A man who openly disparages individualism? A man who thinks the government can compel you buy insurance? A man who wants to cut the budget by establishing a moon base?
Two of the three were professional lobbyists after being thrown out of their offices. The other takes his political positions from Rasmussen and Gallup.
Human flaws are relative things and Paul's flaws are relatively small.
Agree.
I have yet to understand why some feel his handling of the newsletters (and I don't even feel it was done well), somehow makes him a horrible person and unfit for office as compared to his opponents in BOTH parties, who have ALL done MUCH WORSE.
Hey guys - I'm on your side, but you've got to get that needle out of your arm. I voted for Paul in in the 2008 CA primary, attended his rally and sent him a contribution. I'll promote getting Dems to vote for him here in Nancy Pelosi's home district to try and get him some more delegates, just as I did in 2008.
The fact is that he was perfectly willing to profit politically and financially by having race baiting polemics published under his name. Now he is stuck in a lie about it. You want to minimize that - fine. I won't. But it just does not matter. He is not going to be President. OTOH, with enough delegates he can bring a much needed libertarian cattle prod to the GOP convention. I'm good with that and I'll support him for that reason. The entertainment value is reason enough.
We need more accounting of the nomination process. Video Cameras. Other Documentation. Interviews.
Accounting is all about "Controls" and what we can control, and what is just the cost of doing business.
"Ron Paul Follows Rules, Tries to Win Election"
Really?
Ron Paul supporters have an unmatched initiative than any other. A lot of the posts here shows sad delight in being ignorant. The truth is Ron Paul votes have been stolen in SC, Nevada, NH, and Iowa at least.
For sure a huge block of Dr. Paul's support was evaporated from primary vote totals in South Carolina, and here's how most of that was accomplished by foreigners hard at work outside of the United States:
http://healthfreedom2012.com/H.....sctyl-soe/
From voters' first hand knowledge:
http://healthfreedom2012.com/H.....sctyl-soe/
People on here need to educate themselves on what is going on in this country and what the main stream media is trying to brain wash you with.
The biggest difference between Obama and Ron Paul is Ron Paul advocate we should keep the fruit of our own labor and Obama wants to tax and inflate. What is this non sense about "paying your fair share"! Do you understand we are already paying 45% of what we make while there are free loafers around who believe Government should steal money from one group and give to another? I do not believe I am entitled to the money of others. Why should you be entitled to mine?
While others sit here foul mouth and really sounding stupid, Ron Paul Supporters in Oklahoma Fight Back and WIN
http://youtu.be/VEM3f4x4yzM
Once again the complaint goes out that those damn Paul supporters are just too well organized, motivated, inspired, informed, and knowledgable of the process! DAMN THEM! THEY ARE JUST NOT GOOD SHEEPLE!
If a football player intercepts a poorly thrown pass or grabs a fumble from the other team, is that bad sportsmanship or good playing?
To be fair and balanced, you might want to report on the many, many state GOP attempts and successes at blocking legitimate Ron Paul delegates in 2008 and this year.
The caucus delegate process is flawed, but all candidates can exploit it equally if their own supporters took the time to learn how the process works. So they will. Why does anyone think that only the passionate, devoted, loyal Paul supporters are the only ones who can win at this? The delegate process takes a few months, so why would anyone think that Romney won't employ the same tactics to take advantage of the delegate selection process? He and his campaign certainly will.
