Reason Writers on MSNBC: Matt Welch Talks With Melissa Harris-Perry About Rick Santorum, Libertarianism, Religion, Affirmative Action, and More
On Saturday, Feb. 25, Reason Editor in Chief Matt Welch appeared on Melissa Harris-Perry's interesting new MSNBC weekend show for a series of wide-ranging conversations and panel discussions about the intersections of philosophy, policy, and constitutionality. Just under 40 minutes:

Over half an hour? No one puts Reason talking heads on for more than five minutes, maybe six, tops. Welch's business suit can't hide the fact that he's a libertarian. On MSNBC. Cancelled.
My neighbor just met a bisexual man on ---datebi*cOMit's where for men and women looking
for bisexual and bi-curious individuals to meet in a friendly and comfortable environment.
It's a nice place for the people who have the same sexual orientation.
MHP runs an interesting show, IMO. It's no surprise she brought on Matt. MSNBC has to deal with 2AM prison rape being its top show and Bill Clinton admitting that it's "Our Fox", but Up with Chris Hayes and Harris-Perry each weekend morning are actually alright.
On a relative basis all of cable news is a failure.
Fox News crows about being #1 in cable news but their numbers average 2-3 million per night - or about 1%. MSNBC and CNN combined are lucky to do that. But its still a pathetic percentage of the public.
I can glean more insight from the Golf Channel than I can MSNBC.
Which is why I watch neither of them.
Oh, come on... Ed Schultz is entertaining, if only to watch as he tries to restrain his urge to punch the camera lens.
At least MSNBC hires authentic conservatives for balance whereas Fox News hires fake liberals who take a dive when directed to.
you mean folks like Beckel and Schoen and Kirsten Powers - folks who actually worked for Dems - are fake? MSNBC had an authentic conservative. And fired him because his book pissed folks off. Meanwhile, Ed Schultz calls people whores. Wow...thanks for bringing the Grade-A stupid.
Yeah, those three take a dive when ordered to by Roger Ailes. I remember when Dick Morris worked for a Democrat too. They are all whores eager to sell themselves for a buck.
Its like those two black lackeys Walter Williams and Thomas Souls. They are laughed at by anyone with a a degree but the AM radio rednecks eat their shit up with both hands as "edumacated Negros".
Sowell has written about a half million books and Williams has his share. Either makes the likes of Cornell West look like Buckwheat. Just stop.
I have a degree; two of them. Sowell and Williams sound like educated folks, and if I disagree with them, at least I know why. West sounds like a guy in the soup kitchen.
Cornell West is a bigger idiot than Williams or Sowell.
Do you think I am black? I am white and grew up in Athens, Ga - went to UGA/Terry.
There are not many people I like. Hitchens, Sam Harris, Buffett, Soros are among the few - Secular Capitalism is the clear winner and future direction of the USA. Conservatism will lose in the long run.
You're a fucktard, shrike.
It's amazing. Anyone else who dismisses/criticizes so many black men, would be called "racist" if they were dismissing/criticizing black *liberal* men.
Why he counts Soros as a "capitalist", though... that's a real puzzler.
I wouldn't trust Soros with a picture of a gun.
I was pleasantly surprised by this clip. Perhaps I need to DVR some MSNBC?
It's largely a cesspool of diarrhea and hamfisterie, but Harris-Perry is a polisci prof, so regardless of her leanings, she's got a few dozen more IQ points than Ed Schultz. MSNBC should drop the "Lean Forward" ad campaign with Al Sharpton's "DEY WERE DE ONES EATIN DA PIE" advert, and in its place just admit that after 10AM they stop giving a shit.
You must have never tuned in Fox News and the twin uneducated idiots Hannity and Beck. Granted, Sharpton is also a waste of space. So FNN is only twice as bad as MSNBC.
Beck actually brought on the most retarded people ever to put a mic on - that David Barton of Wallbuiders - a complete fucking stone-cold moron Beck parades as an "expert" on history.
I need no convincing that a channel brimming with Catholics, Mormons and Scientologists is a creep fest.
are you daft? Beck has been gone for how many months now? Sure, Sean's as big an ideologue as Obama; probably why they hate each other, but folks know that going in. And looking at the ME, Beck takes on the image of someone appearing to have been right.
We enjoyed being eaten, for the record.
Check out Alex Wagner. She is smoking hot.
So is Megyn Kelly of Fox News who is a closet liberal fwiw. Howard Stern cracked that code on his show during an interview with her. Megyn likes to nip on the labia.
Now he's being sexist, another trait liberals are supposed to avoid.
You're new here, aren't you?
Yeah, our shrike is quite the ball o' fun. He's likely the kind of twit that got his head soaked in the toilet in grade school, high school, college, AND at work today.
I can see why. He's obnoxious.
He's a cunt. CLAIMS to be a capitalist, but he's far too Team Blue-y to be one.
Wow, actual discussion and intellect on MSNBC. Who knew?
still trying to wrap my head around "interesting new MSNBC show". Why is that not computing?
I reject the idea that I owe you a GOD DAMN THING.
Sincerely,
A White Guy

Once again the Libertarian is a useful tool of the hard left. Although outnumbered as usual, I would have hoped for a better performance against the barrage of typical statist pablum. Firstly, there is no defensible excuse for even the slightest criticism of or differentiation from Dr. Paul amongst that crowd. Secondly, to allow the usual race baiting canards of the left to squelch a reasoned defense of fundamental states' rights and bias free college admissions was pure fecklessness. At least Mr. Welch looked uncomfortable through most of it. In all a very disappointing display for those of us who are seeking alternatives within the Libertarian movement.
Why do people always ignore the fact that the state intervened in the Terry Schaivo case and used its agents to forcibly stop the parents from taking over the care of their daughter? Both sides were using the club of government for their ends.
Over-educated, incoherent cunt interviews safe and smug book author about some trivial things interesting to fell-fed NPR complainers.
Oh, Lord above, help me.
How on Earth does a women with this awful of a lisp get her own show on TV? I had to stop it after five minutes cause I really could not stand to hear her speech impediment any longer. And before anyone accuses me of being shallow, remember, we're talking about TV here!
