Matt Damon: "We Bought a Zoo" Star Sez Country Would Have Been Better Off with a "One-Term President With Some Balls" Than Obama
The truly great actor Matt Damon (he's even good in Team America, fer chrissakes!) takes to the acid-free pages of Elle magazine to denounce President Barack Obama:
"I've talked to a lot of people who worked for Obama at the grassroots level. One of them said to me, 'Never again. I will never be fooled again by a politican,'" Damon told the publication. "You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of the country, much better."
The "We Bought a Zoo" star also weighed in on the Occupy Wall Street protests, arguing Obama's lack of leadership has contributed to Americans' overall discontent with the government.
Wait a second! It wasn't that long ago that Obama's supporters were absolutely crowing about all the ginormously historical stuff he'd accomplished. You know, health-care reform, bailouts, the stimulus, the repeal (however grudging) of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, the Race to the Top initiative, the Lily Ledbetter act, you name it.
And that's not even getting into the stuff, like indefinite detention and assassination of U.S. citizens and historic levels of deporting latinos and raiding medical marijuana dispensaries and starting new wars, where he out-Bushed Bush.
But now Matt Damon won't get fooled again:
"If the Democrats think that they didn't have a mandate — people are literally without any focus or leadership, just wandering out into the streets to yell right now because they're pissed off," said Damon, 41. "Just imagine if they had a leader."
As someone who has never voted for a winning candidate at any level of government (including student council), I sympathize with folks such as Damon, who thought their guy had finally made it to the top and was going to remake the world in their beautiful image. But maybe, just maybe the reason why Obama and the Dems are so unpopular is precisely the things they did do (see partial list above). Maybe just maybe.
Which isn't to say that Obama and the Dems haven't gone limp in the clinches on all sorts of things. First and foremost, they failed to pass a budget when they controlled Congress and the White House, a historic first. Indeed, the Democratically controlled Senate has effectively given up on the task of ever even producing such a tiresome document.
None of the above should be taken as an endorsement of the GOP over the past decade-plus. But Obama supporters can't really have it both ways: Either the president is a disappointment because he did what he did or or he's a disappointment because he didn't do enough. Given the long list of actions that usually gets attached to his name, I'm betting on the former.
The last time Matt Damon was super-angry in public? That would have been when he talked to Reason.tv at the Save Our Schools rally in DC (though to be fair, it might have the white-guy rap that starts the vid):

Matt Damon!
You and your MBA style thinking!
How do you like them apples?
Nick,
How did you lose Michelle Fields to Tucker Carlson? Dude your way cooler than Tucker, he shouldn't be stealing your chicks.
HODOR!

That's intrinsically paternalistic.
If only we elected the right king.
I would be a benevolent dictator guys.
For cereal.
You can have my Cap'n Crunch after you pry my cold, dead fingers from the box.
I'm excited for this development.

I guess it's time to pull out the quote from Dennis the Peasant again:

Obama speaks truth to power. Look how he showed those evul health insurance companies and drug makers who's boss.
I'd forgotten about the truth to power thing.
It goes away when their guy is in power.

Goes away? I was thinking of Valerie Jarrett.
Some could say the country has been off, with all different kinds of presidents.
Yes, the blank slate we elected only has so much writable surface, as it turns out. And teachers unions, attorneys and Wall Street donors got there first. Sorry, Matt. Better luck next time.
Maybe four more years of Obama wouldn't be so bad. If a Republican wins people like Damon will be back on the team. They will have a new evil to fight. If Obama wins, things will continue to go south and these people will be that much more dispirited and might actually learn something.
Other than those judicial appointments 4 more years of Obama is looking no worse than 4 years of Mittens.
Other than judicial nominations, I can't think of a single reason why I should care who wins the election.
To be honest,
I think the best thing to have happen would be for Obama to be knocked out by a primary challenge from within the Democratic party.
I want that loser's reputation tossed on the ash-heap of history within his own lifetime.
There are a lot of executive branch agencies exercising essentially legislative powers right now, with all the empty-shell bills Congress has passed in the last few years. An Obama HHS, EPA, FCC, and DOJ are likely to cause a lot more trouble for liberty than those installed by Romney.
Can we really be sure about that though? In my eyes the difference between Romney and Obama is that Romney has an R next to his name. If he were a democrat then the liberals would be gushing about how he is so much like JFK, well educated, religous minority, accomplished north easterner.
No they won't. They will hop back on the team blue train as soon as team red is in office, no matter how far it was derailed before.
^this^
though hopefully there will be a few defections after so much disappointment.
Didn't you say I was an idiot for expressing those same thoughts? I totally agree, though.
Not that I remember. But if I did, I take it back.
I can't remember exactly either, but thanks anyway.
Except I agree because it would be really bad, but perhaps better in the long run.
I think you are confusing John for Tulpa.
No, but you forced me to look it up.
I wrote "I can't imagine a landslide win for O, but I actually think an O win would be preferable as it would really shake up the reps and perhaps pave the way for a serious libertarian candidate in 2016."
And of course, John didn't actually call me an idiot.
I feel this way more and more everyday.
Southist!
That's assuming lib-tards like Matt Damon are capable of learning.
Ever see a toddler react to his ice cream falling in the dirt?
Yeah, it's hilarious. First the look of absolute disbelief. Then the horror of realization. Followed by the primal frustration manifested in the sound of a scream. Finally weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Then you have those toddlers that simply pick up the ice cream dirt and all and continue to happily munch on it. But yes Ray the first one is very very funny.
The dirt ice cream eating toddlers being the die hard progressives that will make every excuse in the book for a failed president.
A little dirt, and a cigarette butt, never hurt anyone's digestion.
Good analogy +100
Is it bad I am happy to see him go bald?
If by "happy", you mean "scared witless at the sight of that giant, sweaty melonhead grinning out at me" - I felt the same.
I know when I look out on the "streets" and see a bunch of whites-only youth gangs raping and shitting and hypnotically chanting about the JOOS, what I think is, if only they had a leader...
(Does the sign behind him say ROADS?)
The Ron Paul newsletters had more impact than anybody cares to admit.
Earth, Hitler, 1938
Speaking of balls, check out Matt Damon's haircut.

Run, Matt, Run!
As a 3d party candidate of course.
I will send you a check and maybe campaign for you, but I draw the line at voting for you.
We've got enough retards in race already.
Yahbut, he could be the 3rd party candidate that pulls votes away from Obama rather than from the GOP.
So what? unless the GOP candidate is Paul or Johnson, it really doesn't matter which team wins. Well, Newt winning might actually usher in the apocalypse, but other than that, no difference.
"Obama supporters can't really have it both ways: Either the president is a disappointment because he did what he did or or he's a disappointment because he didn't do enough."
Really? Why can't we have it both ways? I thought that was what the election was all about. And who da babe interviewing Matt? At least I have more hair than he does.
More seriously, neopaleolibs like myself can give Obama a C+/B- on the economy with an F on civil liberties, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and I don't know, C+ for Russia, China, and the rest (but who gives a damn about them?)
The same people who give a damn about you Venneman, no one.

neopaleolibs like myself can give Obama a C+/B- on the economy
That's some serious grade inflation.
No Obama gets an F for the economy is well.
*tap* *tap*
Matt, do you like apples?
I can't believe that no one has made a joke asking if "We Bought A Zoo" is the story of the Obama presidency...
You should write for Paul's newsletters.
Yep, cause making a sarcastic joke compares well to that
What Damon really means is a one-term Bolshevik, whose one term lasts forever.
Exactly - look how much we were able to accomplish since we didn't have to worry about running a reelection campaign!
You are very correct that we have indeed bought a zoo and we are paying for it every day. The zoos are the inner cities of this country. Gorillias, zebras, chimpanzees roam the streets of our cities. From the latest crime statistics 95% of the animals are either criminal or partially criminal. And how fleet footed they can be! How can you protect yourself? Buy a gun. Then buy yourself a copy of the Lew Ro...I mean Ron Paul Survival Report for $49.50. I cannot say how much I personally thank you.
Ron Paul
Put a link to it dipshit or it didn't happen.
John,
This one is obviously made up.
It would be an interesting exercise for someone to go dig up the archive that Kirchick looked at (I thinkit's some library in the midwest) and OCR the newsletters and place them online.
I have a feeling that it would settle things one way or another as to the content.
I have a feeling you wouldn't like what you saw.
Why wouldn't I like what I say, dear Reverend?
... er Why wouldn't I like what they say, dear Reverend?
I would say this goes under to category of don't feed the troll.
Actually I think Progressives, like Matt Damon, are shamefully unappreciative of this guy. He has accomplished a great deal of their agenda--including national healthcare which Democrats and Progressives have been trying to get enacted since the FDR era.
It might be "national" healthcare, but it's not single-payer, 100% treatment for every ailment under the sun, which is what they really want.
Matt Damon: "We Bought a Zoo" Sez Country Would Have Been Off with a "One-Term President With Some Balls" Than Obama
The country ran away and had an affair over the weekend with ANOTHER one-term president, just a more manly one?
That post title has issues.
I wonder how many of these disenchanted libs are just ruing that they had a tough choice between Obama and Hillary in the primaries, and put up the wrong one against McCain? Granted, that just means that Matt's finding out what the Republicans have dealt with time and again ... Dole, Bush, McCain, etc. Time and again, good candidates in the primaries and somehow, it's the most lackluster of the bunch that shows up to the party in November.
The fact that liberals are so disenchanted with Obama is somewhat comforting, though. With his stumbles, I figured that this upcoming election would be an east W for the GOP, but then I saw the candidates that were throwing their hats in the ring and I had flashbacks of when Slick Willy should have been easy pickins following all of his shady dealings, but then the GOP put Dole up and Clinton got a second term for four more years of shady deals. At least with people like Matt Damon expressing their frustrations so adamantly, maybe this means that Obama might actually get less votes than Romney, if only from the fact that people like Matt boycotted the vote in frustration.
Outside of that, I don't really give a rat's ass when a celebutard like Damon abuses his bully pulpit to espouse political mambo-jumbo. I mean, does anyone really weigh their vote based on what Matt Damon says?
"We Bought A Zoo"
A good name for the lament of a 2008 Obama voter.
And no, I'm not calling blacks animals.
SOMEBODY PLEASE NOTICE ME!!!!
