Give to Reason, Because We're The Only Folks Out There Exposing Anti-Semitic OWS Nut Jobs Who Work(ed) For Major Public School Districts!
Thanks to everyone who contributed to Day One of Reason's Webathon 2011! We're part of the way toward our goal of 500 contributions by next week! We know this isn't the flushest (most flush?) economy, and we're showing our appreciation by offering up all sorts of cool swag depending on the giving level.
For $10 or more, you get memorialized in a banner that's running across the top of this page! For $100, you get Reason t-shirt, a year's subscription to the print mag (can be gifted to someone you love - or want to re-educate)! For $1,000 bucks you get a ton of swag, a writeup at Reason.com, and Torchbearer status! For $2,500, you get a leather jacket signed by Matt Welch and yours truly and tons more! Go here for a full rundown of swag levels that include everything from bumper stickers to signed copies of The Declaration of Independents to asking Matt Welch and me any question you want to recognition in the print mag.
Please give what you can. And if you're light on cash, you can help us by filling out our online survey (participants are automatically entered in a drawing for a $100 Amazon.com gift card). One of our main goals for 2012 is to overhaul our web platforms to increase our reach and appeal - and to make your user experience better than ever.
As a nonprofit operation, Reason.com, Reason magazine, and Reason.tv depend on support from readers and viewers like you to help us keep bringing you cutting-edge, award-winning libertarian news, commentary, and analysis that you just can't find anywhere else.
Consider, for instance, our unique coverage of the Occupy movement. We've been out in the streets in New York, D.C., Los Angeles, and elsewhere, talking to protesters and police and delivering videos that are as powerful and memorable as they are one-of-a-kind.
Here's just a few examples from our growing body of work (go here for our ever-growing playlist of over 20 vids):
That's Patricia McAllister, who was representin' loud and clear at Occupy LA back in October: "I think that the Zionist Jews, who are running these big banks and our Federal Reserve, which is not run by the federal government… they need to be run out of this country."
She used to work for the Los Angeles Unified School District but thanks to Reason's coverage of Occupy LA, she's no longer peddling her particular brand of anti-semitism on the taxpayer dime anymore.
We've been busy on the East Coast, too, where captured a member of New York's Finest decking an Occupy Wall Street protester for no apparent reason other than wearing green on a day other than St. Patrick's (go to 1.40 minute mark):
And of course, Reason produced one of the most-amazing documents to date of the Occupy movement: The great Peter Schiff engaging protesters in New York's Zuccotti Park and explaining how capitalism is the engine by which the 99 Percent have a shot at joining the 1 Percent in terms of living standards:
If this sort of stuff strikes a chord in your heart and your head, then please do donate to Reason now. And if you can't spare money, then do give us your opinion in our web survey. (Doing both is always an option too!)
When you look at the folks running Washington, D.C. and statehouses and city halls across the country, you know our challenge is immense. But you can also rest assured that the staff of Reason has got your back - and your front, too. We're out there every day, pushing "Free Minds and Free Markets" all over the place.

There's your pound of silver, you damn dirty apes.
So, exposing one anti-Semitic member of OWS somehow makes up for all the other posts here supporting them, even though they are blatantly anti-capitalist?
Good question.
We stick up for people's rights.
Not them necessarily.
Just because we don't like them doesn't mean we shouldn't stick up for their rights.
I certainly don't want other people to ignore my 2nd amendment rights, etc. just because they don't like me.
For Pete's sake, we stuck for the right of American citizens who were caught fighting for the Taliban to have a trial. We stuck up for terrorists in Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo and elsewhere not to be tortured...
Why wouldn't we stand up for the rights of our fellow American protestors.
The idea that our rights aren't a popularity contest is kinda fundamental libertarianism.
The right to live in a public park for months on end and store your belongings there free of charge?
We only support the right to gambol in parks.
And the right to force the taxpayers (people with jobs) to clean up after us.
The right to air your political views in public without having a bunch of people who disagree with you go after your job... wait.
One of our main goals for 2012 is to overhaul our web platforms to increase our reach and appeal - and to make your user experience better than ever.
Three dimensional comment threading. Called it.
embedded gifs? More lobstergirl?
I'll donate when you come to Texas.
JOOOOOOOS!
Actually here's a link to the best reason to support Reason.
Bastard.
For that, you get 10 hours of Epic Sax
Jesus Jim, where's the NSFW warning?
If I wanted to see tits that big on a girl that skinny I'd go to the regular outlets.
Balderdash and poppycock.
Olia Tira is always safe for work.
Really, Jim? Redirecting people to a Katy Perry video is your idea of funny?
Admit it, you just are angry he didn't link to this. No use denying it; we all know you're a Brony.
And now you've placed yourself in the uncomfortable position of explaining how you knew that...clip...well enough to link to it.
This outta be good.
I have a 5-year-old daughter; thus, Brony-by-proxy.
Christ, you need some adult fare.
All that could have been avoided if Hoffman were Dragonborn.
Though I do loves me some peckinpah violence.
That's some strange reactions. NSFW? Katy Perry? Are you guys getting the same damn video I am? Cause it ain't either of those two things.
To make up for it, here's a horse shitting on a chick's head.
Speaking of Katy Perry...I'll take the sultry early 1990's R&B flavor of this girl over her any day.
It's called fucking with you, Jim, for fucking with us.
Speaking of horses, I wanted to link you to the Mr. Hands video but I'm having trouble finding a good link. This is the best I can do right now.
Google twoguysonehorse.com, that'll get you there. It's a lot more gruesome than your giant pixels of rape death.
Ladies and gentlemen: Behold Libertaria.
Beautiful, isn't?
So beautiful I had a dab of anal leakage. That's what happens in Libertopia because the FDA doens't make sure the chemicals that cause it are kept out of our food.
And, because people here care about this shit, behold: Robocop Confirmed for New Star Trek Movie.
Thank you for redeeming this thread
There's no redemption for this thread.
It's got dunphy equivocating and a guy getting fucked in the ass by a horse, there ain't no comin' back from that.
Robocop? Star Trek? PFFFFTTT!
Support us anyway?
That was a reply to Epi's scene from Straw Dogs
Shenanigans.
It's so cool!I'd recommend an exciting site to you.

"One of our main goals for 2012 is to overhaul our web platforms to increase our reach and appeal - and to make your user experience better than ever."
Lookin' forward to seein' what that's about.
Probably a bunch of doo-dads that will slow things down.
As long as it doesn't break Reasonable, and gets rid of WI, I don't fucking care what they do.
Christ. 3 plainclothes officers atack a man on a Dallas train. Gunfight ensues. Original "suspicious" person killed, cop wounded and bystander wounded. Read the comments. Typical.
http://www.policeone.com/drug-.....xas-train/
Jesus, I live 20 min. from that station. In the comments section, one of those guys avatar is a silhouette of a cop raising a baton to beat someone who is holding up their hands pleading. Disgusting.
Approximately 20% of the posters use a Batman avatar.
I also like how all the comments talk about how their glad the "scumbag" is dead, which proves that cops have no concept of what a "suspect" means.
Judge, jury, and executioner it seems.
"they're" goddammit!
"I also like how all the comments talk about how their glad the "scumbag" is dead, which proves that cops have no concept of what a "suspect" means."
Welcome to Texas.
We don't take kindly to civil liberties round hurr
And ask them why apprehension on a crowded fucking bus was necessary. I'm sure it would elicit some serious blinkage.
They're nothing compared to some of the posts I've read on P1. That site makes my blood boil when I read the comments. Though it really does give you a good idea of what cops think about us. I wonder if Dunphy posts over there under a different name.
Too bad the shooter is dead. I'd bet money he thought he was getting mugged and pulled his gun for protection.
They're nothing compared to some of the posts I've read on P1.
Agreed. I've seen some pretty vile shit.
Too bad the shooter is dead. I'd bet money he thought he was getting mugged and pulled his gun for protection.
That was my thought as well.
"Prayers for a swift and full recovery for Corporal Hussey and the wounded bystander. Nice work DPD in getting this scumbag out of circulation."
Fucking animals.
If sucking cop cock was an Olympic event, Americans would win gold, silver, and bronze every time.
Can't make a car worth a shit, or a TV, or a blue ray player, but by god we can suck cop cock, salute the flag, and do 20 pushups all at the same time.
Somebody needs a hug.
I'm stealing this, damnit.
It's more of a circle jerk since it's a cop only site. I don't know how they verify, but you can only be a LEO to comment.
It's more of a circle jerk
Heh.
Man goes to war against cops. Demonstrates excelent creativity, poor execution.
http://www.policeone.com/Offic.....e-attacks/
dude you're gonna give yourself an aneurysm if you stick around P1 too long.
Blood pressure is rising. Last one. The comments on this one are both expected and insane. Apparently if you try to buy drugs, it's ok to kick the shit out of you while you comply. At least according to the use-of-force expert.
http://www.policeone.com/use-o.....-Wash-cop/
From the comments:
You admit that you heard the officer tell you to get on the ground...standing with your hands up is not getting on the ground...if their UOF policy allows kicks (which it does), then prepare to be kicked. All of the kicks were directed and targeted at approved striking areas...the fact he was not involved (knowledge not available to the officer at the time) is irrelevant. Lawful order, failure to comply with said order...use of force which in no way was excessive. Expert needs to be ashamed of himself, next time read all the documents before you cash the check.
-------------------------------------
pretty pathetic case against the officer to begin with. that dbag needs an ass kicking. those weak kicks certainly didn't do it. but its good to see seattle' city attorney in the video (i assume it was holmes) saying that ofc lee did this because the kid was black. that sounds like slander to me. i would like to know what kind of evidence he has to support that allegation. this was TERRIFIC job by the undercover officer.
"Now reinstate him, give him backpay, retirement contributions, sicktime, annual, comp, and pay him for his mental anguish! "
as balko has pointed out many times, expert witnesses often aint so expert
the ironic thing is that he if he is now incompetent because he changed his mind partially based on the offcier's statement, then he was ALSO incompetent when he had the opposite opinion prior.
iow, level of competence doesn't change based on his opinion
fwiw, i state my opinion on UOF as i understand the UOF doctrine AND i teach UOF as part of firearms classes, but i am most definitely NOT a UOF "expert".
and of course the P1 comments (some of them ) are over the top biased to one side
JUST like some of the comments here
odd how so many can see it when it's on the opposite side of the spectrum, but not when it's fellow travelers.
to me, a good litmus test is the UC Davis pepper spraying (after witnessing the full video)
i've seen some very vociferous cop critics concede that based on the 2nd video, it appears justified.
but the pure zombies, much like some of the idiot bigots at P1 don't look at evidence.
nice to see mirror images of some of the reasonoid bitgots, and then see them be criticized
note also, IIRC (and it's a big "if" ) prior to seeing the cop's statement, the expert still thought one or two (i don't remember which) kick WAS justified. just the other one or two weren't
iow, the statement didn't change his minds about kicks qua kicks so to speak
it changed his mind about the one(s) that he found UNjustified. he had already found some JUSTIFIED
Shorter dunphy:
RACISTS!!!
and of course the P1 comments (some of them ) are over the top biased to one side
JUST like some of the comments here
odd how so many can see it when it's on the opposite side of the spectrum, but not when it's fellow travelers.
Two major and purposely overlooked differences:
1)The ratio of assholishness on P1 is an order of magnitude higher than the # of "fuck cops" comments here.
2)The commenters at Reason don't have any power over the police. The reverse isn't true.
It's okay. Here's a bum taking on two dozen Imperial Legion guards.
The music and use of slow-mo was epic.
Now that I am an income earning lawyer I supposed I should make a contribution for all the free content I have been receiving over the last 7 years. I have no idea how tax deductions for this thing kind of works though. My understanding is that you only only get deductions if you are itemizing correct? I will be itemizing deductions for tuition and loan interest so I suppose I'd rather Reason get the money than the government.
On that topic I was thinking about all the interest deductions I would get to make over the course of paying off my loans until I researched it this week and realized this will be the only year I am eligible. What poppycock!
"I have no idea how tax deductions for this thing kind of works though."
Well, I'm not sure they 'share the wealth', but if you go right here:
https://www.reason.org/support/
you'll find:
"Reason Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization (ID #95-3298239 ); as such, contributions are tax-deductible in accordance with the Internal Revenue Code."
And if the .com books are separate, it WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA FOR THE .COM FOLKS TO SHARE THE DEDUCTION INFO, right, .com folks?
Yeah no shit, "in accordance with the Internal Revenue Code." That would be what I'm unfamiliar with having never had enough itemized deductions to not just go with the standard deduction. TurboTax will handle all that shit for me but it is possible that my deductions still won't be enough and this donation won't be deductible.
I would advise (a) to not restrict your charitable giving based upon how much money the government will dispense unto you and (b) since you are a productive lawyer, hire a productive tax accountant. You have better things to do than ponder the tax code.
Heh, not productive enough for a tax accountant yet. I've been a lawyer for 2 weeks now. Still enough to make a donation.
It may surprise you but I like understanding this stuff at least a little bit rather than just relying on other people. Turbo Tax will handle the nitty gritty but I'm not gonna pay a tax accountant to explain to me how charitable deductions work.
If you've only been a lawyer for 2 weeks (and there are only a bit over 3 weeks left in the year), it's entirely possible that this year your income is just around the standard deduction, and it hardly matters anyway because it's such a low tax bracket.
Itemised deductions are generally a waste of time unless you pay a significant amount of property & state/local income tax and mortgage interest.
Basically you need to prove you paid at least $5,700 (or double that if you're married) in taxes, mortgage interest, charitable deductions, and so forth. You then save whatever your marginal rate, which is probably 25%.
There are a few uncommon deductions that get your deduction easily over the limit, like pizza delivery guys with vehicle expenses in excess of 2% of income, professional gamblers, or medical expenses over 7.5% of your income. Ouch.
itemised deductions save me a LOT every year.
Yeah, you can probably deduct them crow-beaters as a work related expense.
As I said in another post in this thread I might not. However I may very well get to $5,700 for the year. I'm going to making a payment on my loan interest which is a $2500 deduction and the maximum tuition deduction is $4000. Turbo tax will decide which way is better but if I do pass the $5700 mark then my Reason donation will be deducted. I'm going to do it either way but still.
If Reason is run like the Libertarian Party (it can't be, surely...), there will be factions within factions within factions, and the website will be improved in about 2019.
A position on abortion we can all get behind:

A writer in a non-fringe, serious newspaper claims A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for Newt Gingrich.
The Republican shills really are scared of Paul. When Newt was asked what he would recommend to replace ObamaCare and he spoke of the fundamental importance of brain science and its potential to leapfrog our medical capabilities far ahead, it was a brilliant, creative moment.
Mmm, brain science! Maybe Dick Morris is interested because he has no brain.
That -- the "brain science" part -- is the dumbest sentence I've read in the last week. I can't even fathom how a person can be so gullible as to trust a medical lobbyist making sweeping statements about medical policy.
The idea that Newt has a chance at beating Obama is also pretty stupid, though. Doesn't Paul destroy Gingrich in head-to-head matchups with Barry O? This is just one example, but Paul's dead even with Obama in a recent Iowa poll while Gingrich trails by 10% -- even though Gingrich beats Paul among likely caucus voters.
With the caveat that those polls tend to be all over the place.
So you're saying Republicans are dumber than the combined US electorate? I'm shocked.
Excellent Post, i have found this post Url from my Newswine account recent news options, just subscribed your feed, hope you will update new post soon.
keep it up.
http://www.heavy.com/comedy/20.....spray-cop/
Who was the melodramatic spaz narrating the video?
This reads alot to me like those partisan Democrats last cycle, that would capture something going on in the Tea Party, and contort them into position. Scapegoating the whole. The flip side looks just as silly. You're falling over yourself here with overreach.
Just go to your Schiff video, and you find there people agreeing about the Fed, and stating how many Libertarians are there at OWS. Obviously, not everyone, but that's the point.
It is ironic because I was going to renew my lapsed subscription to Reason, but then you called OWS "Nut Jobs" thereby revealing your true statist tendencies. I will fill out the survey though.
He wasn't calling all of OWS "nut jobs," but instead was referring to specific OWS nut jobs.
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure
you
were.
While I dont agree with Patricia McAllister should people be fired for expressing their belief?
It's called "freedom of association" -- one of the cornerstones of libertarian thought.
She should certain be free to express whatever opinion she wants, but the LA school system should also be free to choose and keep whomever like, and get rid of those they don't.
Give to Reason, Because We're The Only Folks Out There Exposing Anti-Semitic OWS Nut Jobs Who Work(ed) For Major Public School Districts!
Are you kidding?
This is the reason why the Ron Paul nuts won't be donating.
That makes a lot of sense to me dude. WOw.
