Reason.tv: Libertarian To Be Elected? An Interview with Libertarian City Councilman Ed Coleman
"The numbers are looking pretty good that I'm going to officially win as a libertarian this time," says Indianapolis City Councilman Ed Coleman.
Coleman is currently running for re-election to Indianapolis City Council in November, and hopes to continue his libertarian policies as an official member of the Libertarian Party, after leaving the Republican Party during his previous term.
At FreedomFest 2011, Reason's Matt Welch sat down with Coleman to talk about which issues he has already tackled while in office, and what he plans to do during his next term, if elected.
Held each July in Las Vegas, FreedomFest is attended by around 2,000 libertarians and advocates of limited government. Reason.tv spoke with over two dozen speakers and attendees and will be releasing interviews over the coming weeks. For an ever-growing playlist, go here now.

GO ED!!!
Soon as he wins, you'll see a boomlet to run Coleman for president on the LP ticket. [and he'd do no better than
Paul, Barr and Marrou who had achieved
"high" office before they ran.]
At the federal and local level, it seems the best/only way to get elected on a 3rd party ticket is to 1) get elected on team red/blue 2) leave blue/red, join 3rd party 3) run for reelection.
See: Bernie Sanders, Ed Coleman
I've met that man, briefly. Seemed a nice fellow, and I hope to help him out again.
Back in '09 I think I wrote an op-ed against the proposed Indy smoking ban. I just re-read it; it's green but it's not as embarrassing as I thought it would be.
The ban was voted down.
They misspelled my name.
The squirrels stole my like. I tried to NOT SF it but....the reason app has failed me. Copy pasta.

As a Californian who goes to Indianapolis a couple times a year to see my family, I am glad you helped strike down the smoking ban. I enjoy sitting in smoky bars, drinking booze. Something I haven't done out here since 1/1/1995. Indiana... where adults are allowed to make choices for themselves.

ANOTHER city councilman?!!! Wow, that's a lot more powerful than a dog catcher! Any bets on whether the LP presidential nominee will break Harry Browne's 5% target next year?
