Tonight, I'll be on John Stossel's Fox Business show at 10pm ET, talking about dirty political campaigns through the years. As a bonus, Reason's Damon Root will also appear, talking about FDR and the many myths surrounding America's only four-times-elected president. Go here for more.
Tomorrow night, I'll be on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, which airs at 11pm ET. Other guests include political consultant Donna Brazile, actor John Turturro, and Mayor John Fetterman of Braddock, Pennsylvania (alas, Ben Affleck dropped out).

Cops Apprehend Machete Man
Police went to three local hotels before finding a woman who had placed a 911 call saying that her boyfriend had tried to slash her throat with a machete on April 28. Police finally ended up at the Gateway Motel, 4657 W. 95th St., around 2:10 p.m., where they found the victim.
The victim told police that while she was lying in bed, her boyfriend became enraged and jumped on top of her, placing a machete against her throat.
Carlos V. Torres, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated assault. Nothing else happened.

cool
I will be at TCHO admiring The Jacket.
Well, Nick gave it the old college try with Maher. Unfortunately, he didn't make a dent with that crowd. Someone need to inform people that indignation itself is not proof positive of virtue. Also, you really have to go back to first principles to get people to rethink. Personally, I could care less if billionaires have to pay more tax, so it ain't about looking out for rich people. When you tax wealth you drive it away and certainly rich people all know how to shelter their wealth. When you tax corporations, you drive them out. In fact, reducing taxes is often the best way to increase revenue because it attracts wealth. And besides, rich people don't typically get salaries, do they? So a payroll tax only effects those dependent on payrolls and not billionaires - isn't that the case?
All this completely aside from the fact that government and government entitlements are grotesquely huge beyond even anyone's imagination 50 years ago. At what point does this absurdity become obvious to even the dimmest of wits? Also, while I do agree that tea baggers are by and large dim wits, that certainly doesn't met that everyone who agrees with them with respect to government expansion is also one. Personally, I think this country is a lost cause and we should give the progressives full reign until it becomes obvious even to the likes of Bill Maher where this inevitably leads. anyway, blah, blah, blah. Nice try Nick. Bill had it in for you anyway.
is good
thanks
