Free Speech and the "White Nationalist" Radio Host
It's unlikely that one could find a more loathsome figure on talk radio than New Jersey's Hal Turner, a "white nationalist" (read: neo-Nazi) freakazoid and failed congressional candidate. Turner has penchant for calling for the deaths of his political enemies, shouting that "illegal immigrants are breaking the law, and people like me should break the law as well by shooting them down," and calling for "a full day of violence against blacks…complete with lynchings, church burnings, drive-by shootings and bombings to put these subhuman animals back in their place." Charming, isn't he?
Turner was sentenced to 33 months in prison today for writing that "three appellate judges in Chicago 'deserved to die' for overturning a local ban on handguns," according to the New York Daily News. Last year, Washington Post staff writer Peter Slevin provided a helpful summary of the case and the attendant free speech issues raised by Turner's prosecution:
"Let me be the first to say this plainly: These Judges deserve to be killed," Turner wrote on his blog on June 2, according to the FBI. "Their blood will replenish the tree of liberty. A small price to pay to assure freedom for millions."
The next day, Turner posted photographs of the appellate judges and a map showing the Chicago courthouse where they work, noting the placement of "anti-truck bomb barriers." When an FBI agent appeared at the door of his New Jersey home, Turner said he meant no harm.
An interesting wrinkle: between radio rants against the "Amero," Turner was informing for the FBI and claimed in court that he his suborning of murder was at the behest of the bureau, in an attempt to smoke out extremists.

The Nazi is a gun control fanatic? I thought our homegrown Nazis were against gun control.
He must be a fundamentalist Nazi. You know who else supported gun control, right?
Mayor Daley?
Aging boomers among us remember when Mayor Daley in 1968, was routinely Godwined before there was a Godwin Rule.
Considering that the origins of most gun control measures were racist, it makes perfect sense, actually.
Wow, I wonder if any other stupid, freedom destroying laws had racist roots.
That's impossible...they're "progressive", right?
Ah, right. I keep forgetting.
Ah, Anslinger. My favorite quote from that bastard is - "If Frankenstein's Monster ever met the demon Marihuana, he would drop dead of fright."
Hey, anybody who says "Reefer makes darkies think they're as good as white men" can't be all bad!
+1
The Nazi is a gun control fanatic?
NAZIs always have been and always will be for gun control.
I thought our homegrown Nazis were against gun control.
Don't believe democrat agit-prop.
Or, alternatively, the New York Daily News (and, by extension, Moynihan) are wrong. From the article:
Writing on his blog, which has since been taken down, Turner disputed a June 2 ruling by the three judges, who said a federal district judge had properly dismissed the NRA's lawsuit to overturn handgun bans in Chicago and Oak Park, Ill.
Yeah, it's sort of convoluted, but the bottom line is the Nazi wanted the judges dead because their ruling ultimately UPHELD the gun ban.
Reading: it's fundamental!
To clarify, the above quote was from the Washington Post article, not the NYDN article.
Yeah, I was wondering what the hell Moynihan was smoking, but it's a direct quote. I guess Moynihan AND the NYDN are somewhat grammatically challenged.
As written, it changes the whole meaning of the story.
"Charming, isn't he?"
"calling for "a full day of violence against blacks...complete with lynchings, church burnings, drive-by shootings and bombings to put these subhuman animals back in their place." Charming, isn't he?"
Yes. It's worked before.
Charming, isn't he?
I've read far worse than that, from commentators on this site and many other places.
Sure you have, asshole. You go and find comments like that from reason commenters that aren't from some troll or from a racist who wandered on the board and was subsequently run off or mocked mercilessly (like Dick Hoste or even LoneWacko).
mocked mercilessly (like Dick Hoste or even LoneWacko).
Yes, I seem to remember some cartoon,or something, about LoneWacko, and his little dog.
That was over at Urkobold.
Not bad for a homo.
Oh, gosh! You called me gay! Oh, I'm devastated!
Of course, now that he's gone, I can't do anymore.
Oh,
Penguin,
You're making mi
Caliente
Oh, more gay jokes! Devastated, I tell you!
You know how he can tell you're gay? He says your dick tastes like ass.
Still waiting on your evidence, fuckwit.
Fuck you, anonopussy. You're too boring to be worth threatening.

That doesn't sound like the Bureau at all.
-
FBI handlers don't like go-getters?
I'm struggling to see what actual crime the dickhead committed.
I would imagine this falls under "incitement to violence", which is way too elastic for its own good.
Which is a bullshit provision anyway. The courthouse address and building map are now state secrets?
If you're stupid enough to commit a violent crime on the say so of some loser like this douche, then you deserve everything that comes at you and more, just for being a gullible idiot.
But as far as the speaker goes, too bad; suck it up judges. That's one of the many perks of being a public servant; being on the short end of a rant aimed at you. It's not the first time someone's been pissed at one of your rulings and odds are it certainly won't be the last.
Presumably the same crime his handlers committed. I wonder why they aren't facing charges as well.
Wait, another extremist trying to incite violence ends up being an FBI informant? How many nutcases are out there collecting a paycheck from the Feds?
I hate New Jersey Nazis.
Worst major league team name ever.
Ah...I know him. Sean Hannity's old pal.
His job was basically to publish information which would cause other parties to act in a manner that would cause their arrest
Sounds like the dictionary definition of entrapment, to me.
But entrapment is pretty much the Bureau's MO these days. When was the last time the Bureau managed to arrest an actual terrierist that it hadn't pretty much bottle-fed since birth, anyway?
It really has gotten to the point where you expect the "Mr X. was an FBI informant" paragraph in stories like these.
When was the last time the Bureau managed to arrest an actual terrierist that it hadn't pretty much bottle-fed since birth,
Yeah, but dog fuckers deserve what ever they get.
So the FBI and the Federal Government has successfully protected the American public from the threats of an employee who was hired because he made threats. I feel so much safer now.
It would tickle me pink if it were possible to set these wannabe Nazis up against the Crips (in LA, they've got the numbers to be an army unto themselves), the Bloods (close to it), MS-13, the Almighty Latin Kings Nation, or Zoe Pound (Haitian gangsters) and see who's left standing.
And if Hal Turner really is an FBI informant, then LMFAO@the white nationalists.
If Grand Theft Auto taught me anything it is that the whitest characters usually start out as the richest, oppressing others through their well-paid criminal organization, but by the end, they are riddled with bullets and blown to smithereens by RPG rounds while my character runs over AND has sex with hookers. Ah GTA, one day your cultural impact will be seen as on par with the likes of Hemingway, Rembrandt, and Scorsese.
He should have informed on himself. They'd probably have cut him a check and let him go.
Charming, isn't he?
But, does he do movie reviews?
You know, it really is time to unban Lonewacko, if he actually was banned. I miss him.
I SecondThisEmotion
Fuck all you degenerate messican loving corporate welfare queens.

Fantasies of pallid shlubs overwhelmed by the hyperphysical cullud menace undoubtedly also cross the minds of New Jersey Nazis.
You guys should hang out.
Don't fear reading comprehension. It doesn't want to hurt you. It's your friend.
Nazi's lost. We kicked their asses. Why would you wave the flag of losers? Dumbasses.
Why would people continue to wave the flag of those losers who couldn't root the commies out of VietNam?
My parents literally wallpapered my room in red white and blue.
i think i have been desensitized. I can't think of ever really giving a shit about any flag.
Even when i say i agree the American flag should not be burned but it should be legal i really don't mean it.
In fact i just don't give a shit. Hell burn it...if only for the fact burning stuff is cool.
Yes, our military is completely decimated and in shambles just like the Nazis. It's exactly the same thing.
If you weren't equating defeat on the battlefield to defeat of the ideals, then I have have a hard time seeing what your post was about.
Why would people continue to wave the flag of those losers who couldn't root the commies out of VietNam?
Because we were smart enough to back off and let the commies do all the rooting.
From this..
"The Communist government's embrace of capitalism since the mid-1980s followed attempts at collective farming and central planning that kept the country mired in extreme poverty after the Vietnam War ended in 1975."
Now they're refusing to bail out the government run shipbuilder and private citizens are becoming gold bugs.
Who lost again?
Just playing devil's advocate here, but...The U.S. still exists, albeit in a warped preverse and oppressive form, while the Third Reich is buried, the swastika is illegal to display publically in its place of origin, and Nazis will forever be used as the dominant "black and white" villians in video games and movies...until the U.S. finds a way to outdo them.
Granted the U.S. lost Vietnam, but it's kind of hard to win a war when you've lost your mind. I suggest the flag be changed to reflect this fact. Maybe we could spackle our flags with shit and/or vomit much like a crazy person would spackle the walls of his padded cell with his psychotic-durg induced diarrhea.
I hate Illinois Nazis.
Whatever you do, don't send them looking for you at Wrigley field. That really pisses them off.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Elwood: Oh no.
Jake: What the fuck was that?
Elwood: The motor. We've thrown a rod.
Jake: Is that serious?
Elwood: Yup.
Best move ever. And if you disagree with me, you, Sir, are worse than Hitler.
So Moynihan's "real" Nazis are against guns.
Why can't I call Obama a fascist again?
Is it because he is better at rebranding fascism then a Moynihan Nazi?
Being an informer doesn't exclude the possibility that he's also a sincere believer.
If actual attempts were made on the judges' lives, then I could see the sense in a civil suit against this asshole, but if you take free speech seriously, then that's got to be about it.
So it's unlawful to say people deserve to die?
Everyone deserves to die.
When are they going to arrest God for saying so?
According to the NYDN
'Prosecutors asked the judge to slam Turner with six years in prison for writing on his blog that three appellate judges in Chicago "deserved to die" for _overturning_a_local_ban_on_ handguns_.'
The Wash Post:
"Internet radio host Hal Turner disliked how three federal judges _rejected_the_National_Rifle_Association's_attempt_to_overturn_a_pair_of_handgun_bans."
Which is it?
The latter.
Meanwhile, Al Sharpton is trying to get the FCC to go after Rush Limbaugh for racist statements. See, Al, THIS is what it really looks like when a racist is on the air.
Does this guy Turner keep a diary?
Nice.
I'd like to wish everyone a White Christmas 🙂
In the above photo, the guy looks a little like Jason Alexander. He must be the white supremacist that George Costanza was mistaken for on Seinfeld.
I have no love for any hate group, whether it's the Nation of Islam, Westboro Baptist Chuch or the American Nazi Party. But denying these groups their First Amendment rights only brings them more undeserved attention.
