Reason On the Air: Tim Cavanaugh Talks California Troubles with Larry Elder: 10am PST

Reason Senior Editor Tim Cavanaugh will be on the Larry Elder Show this morning at 10am PST (1pm EST).

Cavanaugh and the Sage from South Central will be discussing California's woes -- which range from government employee pensions to government solar energy swindles to excessive jaywalking penalties -- and will focus on the recent claim from Wall Street Journal columnist Brett Arends that the Golden State's problems are all a political propaganda hit.

I read two of Elder's books in the past 4 years. Even though he's eloquent and less Statist than O'Reilly, he's no more a libertarian than Glenn Beck, and that ain't sayin' much.

Speaking of O'Reilly, I hope some of you caught a glimpse of his show yesterday as he invited The Judge to talk about the Portland Mad Bomber, or the FBI Bomb Plot Foiled By The FBI. The quintessential Statist (i.e. O'Reilly) against a principled, well-versed libertarian - a classic.

I can't believe that someone still broadcasts Larry Elder. My fave Elder story came when his patron, David Horowitz, hired some unemployed black people to "protest" Larry Elder's show about fifteen years ago, carrying signs demanding more welfare, affirmative action, etc., and that Mr. Elder be fired. Talk radio hadn't really exploded yet, but even then it seemed every AM station had at least one "Tom-slot" to fill, and Elder has generally been available to fill it.
