Reason Foundation Vice President Adrian Moore appeared on the new daily version of Judge Andrew Napolitano's Freedom Watch on Fox Business last night to discuss the General Motors IPO, Warren Buffet's piece in The New York Times praising government bailouts and the latest deficit reduction proposal.

What's it like to be an unpleasant idiot?
The funnier part of a VAT is that it's structure can be such that some things are taxed while others are not, but the choice is usually arbitrary and it often isn't clear whether items qualify for immunity from the tax or not.
Also, sales taxes are more expensive to collect than income taxes, so the primary reasons to put in place this tax instead of raising the income tax would be political. Raising the income tax is also a horrible idea, but at least it's cheaper.
