Reason.tv: Busted for Growing Veggies! Reason.tv's Nanny of the Month for September 2010
Nanny of the Month turns one-year-old this month, and it seems that public officials' obsession with minding other people's business has only intensified over the past 12 months. We've exposed meddlers who want to squash other people's right to do everything from sing karaoke, to drink raw milk, and bust a move at ladies night.
What could possibly top all that? How about the "Greenest County in America" suing a man for growing too many vegetables in his garden?
Presenting Reason.tv's Nanny of the Month for September 2010: DeKalb County, Georgia CEO Burrell Ellis!
Approximately 1.20 minutes.
"Nanny of the Month" is written and produced by Ted Balaker; Associate Producers: Paul Detrick and Alex Manning; Opening Animation: Meredith Bragg.

Is the issue simply that he's growing too much on his own land, or is it a tax issue due to the fact that he sells his produce on the market?
http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb.....12210.html
If you read the article it's clear the dispute over land use. What he does with the produce should be a red a herring, except for statists, corporate welfare queens and other forms of government leeches.
Liberalism at work yet again.
What's liberal about illiberally restricting property use so?
I strike again! Commerce Clause = go fuck yourselves, landowners!
There was even a column about this on the Economist website yesterday.
Just wait until S. 510 passes
Clearly, any failures in food safety are a direct result of insufficient government controls. Restricting enterprise further and increasing the role and power of the government - specifically, the Federal government - are the only logical and practical response.
Praise Uncle Sam, thanks be unto our protectors!
That made me soooo wet, Almanian... ooh, damn, that's good.
I don't have a problem with this.
Lol.
Growing vegetables without a permit causes global warming.
"Vegetables", huh. Is that what the kids are calling it these days?
I chuckled
"Trees" works now too.
The only thing I can think of is the neighbors don't like the smell of cow/chicken/duck shit!
Hey, Reason. Why you guys all pro-discrimination and stuff? lol
"If reason is all for discrimination based on sex, then why stop? there?
Why not argue that business be allowed to discriminate based on race? Why don't we re-legalize segregation? A business should be allowed to choose who it serves based upon whatever parameters it chooses.
Don't be hypocrites reason if you're going to champion discrimination then at least be honest about it." - insdel2004 (youtube commenter)
I swear you can't make this shit up. If you're against welfare, you're pro-starvation. If you're for property rights, you're pro-discrimination. If you're for freedom, then you're pro-anarchy-butt-rape-of-teh-innocent-children.
This is why we can't have nice things...
If you're for property rights, you're pro-discrimination
Well, in the sense of it shouldnt be illegal....
now that he's rezoned, I'm sure he'll get federal subsidies now.
WooooHooooo!!!
My county WINS!!!
DeKalb is much more "cosmopolitan" than whatever shithole you other Reason lurkers, commenters, contributors and editors live in.
I heard California just banned toys in Happy Meals unless they are sold with vegetables... Guess they should start encouraging people to grow more vegetables if McDonald's ever wants to see a happy kid again.
The Corporate Farm Lobby strikes again. They've all but wiped out the family farm in America. Now they're going after anyone who won't buy or eat their industrialized vegetables.
is good
so perfect
