Best Campaign Vid So Far: "Madam Governor" Kristin Davis Wants to Legalize Pot, Poker, Prostitution in NY or, Oh No 4 Cuomo!
The Empire State has a long list of sad-sack governors, ranging from the current one, the previous one, and the one who served three terms too many, and Nelson Rockefeller, who passed draconian drug laws before eventually expiring in the arms of a woman not his wife (who was unironically named Happy).
Kristin Davis, who ran the escort service that provided former Gov. Eliot Spitzer with call girls and served time (while Spitzer remained free to purchase all the black socks he wanted), is running for governor on what some have called a "pot and pussy platform." She wants to legalize marijuana and prostitution and collect tax revenue from them; she wants to open casinos in the state's great vacation areas; she wants to legalize gay marriage and address a legal system that nets the poor and unconnected and leaves the big fish to swim free.
Besides running prostitutes, what qualifications does she possess for the top job in Albany (as if that isn't enough)? She was valedictorian of her high school and worked at a hedge fund, which pretty much makes her more qualified than Andrew Cuomo and whoever the Republican candidate is. But judge for yourself in this, the best campaign video so far this year (in a non-Basil Marceaux category):
Note: No Reason.tv T-shirts were harmed in the filming of this video and that curious, wonderful bit of product placement was completely uncoordinated.
Reason.tv interviewed Davis earlier this year. Take a look.

Who's he?
Nelson Rockefeller who passed draconian drug laws before eventually expiring in the arms of a woman not his wife (who was unironically named Happy).
I love cheap shots as much as the next guy, but Rockefeller was married to Happy at the time of his death. They had been married for 16 years.
You're correct. He was boning Megan Marshak when he expired. She had too much class to cash in on it.
The picture of Marshak is horrifying. Hopefully "died in her arms" is just a term of art... her facedown is the only way to go with the likes of that.
From the link:
Nelson Rockefeller was a big, heavy man. When he collapsed of a heart attack, Megan Marshak was pinned underneath him. She had to struggle to get out. He was naked.
Their relative directions were not mentioned.
Rigor mortis damn near killed her...
SugarFree: Click on link above. Twasn't Happy whose arms he died in.
Sorry, the sentence arrangement doesn't make that clear. The mistress or the wife could be named "Happy" with that syntax.
The mistress or the wife could be named "Happy" with that sintax.
Always scroll down before posting.
How was Rockefeller a servant of the popes?
FWIW, if I lived in New York, I'd be voting for Kristin Davis.
Sorry, the sentence arrangement doesn't make that clear.
There are two things that appear to have a dangling "Happy" on them in this post. It's a theme.
Panda Bear: Eats shoots and dies. Rocky: Eats, shoots, and dies?
Syntax, what a bear.
Nick? Are you a threaded comment protester?
What's this I hear about Nick supporting sin taxes?
If only she were running in California!
(who was unironically named Happy).
Not to parse Nick's words or anything, but has anyone ever ironically named their child? Is that the ultimate hipster move? As in: We "named" her Janice, just to be ironic.
It just struck me as funny.
Not sure if this qualifies - I knew a guy named Case. He was going to name his son Justin.
Oh I tried and tried to convince my friends the Meloff's to name their son Jack... To no avail.
What's wrong with people? Emotionally damaging your offspring is a small price to pay for a little levity.
You should've tried John, sneaking Jack in the back door.
My wife used to work with a guy whose last name was Lear. He and his wife named their daughter Crystal Chanda.
Way back in elementary school, I knew two brothers, last name Camper. They were named Christian and Happy.
No b.s.
Candy Apple - went to elem school w/my brother. WTF - really? REALLY?
More fun, although not "ironic" in and of itself, was co-worker in high school, Candy Hunt. Yes, of course we Spooner-ized her name...
It's definitely up there with getting a traditional white collar professional job.
I remember hearing back in the 80s about a family named Daub who wanted to name their son Zip-a-Dee-Doo.
My sister had a friend in college whose parents were named Chet and Riva. The friend's name? Chetriva.
I also recall the Zip-a-Dee-Doo Daub story. He goes by the name Zip.
He does exist.
A little stretched, though. One of my ex GFs permanently reshaped a few of my favorite t-shirts to the point where I gave them to her when we broke up, since they made me look like Chuck Schumer.
Is she also in favor of plastic surgery? Yeesh.
You find her that unattractive? She reminds me of Jennifer Coolidge. (SFW)
That eye make up is very fucking scary.
I'd do her. We can't all be Jennifer Aniston worthy.
Decent rack, but that stretched out, angry eye, too-much-makeup deal and collagen puffy lips are kinda scary.
It's too bad - she likely was kinda cute without all that wierd work she's had done.
Nick? Are you a threaded comment protester?
Yay!
Threaded comments suck.
HARD.
I
love
them
Cock?
them up
just to screw
ugh, that didnt work right.
Sure
it
did!
That's a great commercial, except for one part at the beginning. That whole "I'm going to reform the system that takes advantage of women and minorities!" thing rubs me the wrong way. I like what she's trying to do, but I think she could probably phrase it better so that she doesn't sound like a Democrat in that respect.

I hate the iPhone. Sorry for the double post.
I agree with you. The bit about the inequities favoring wealthy white men and discriminating against women, minorities, etc. Sounds like she decided to transition from social liberalism to classical during the course of the clip...
We all hate the Ip Hone, even if it has a reason app. (Although as I've said before, I'd prefer an app that allows me to throw virtual people overboard from a virtual Love Boat for Ideas.)
Some populist rhetoric probably won't hurt her in NY.
Populus rhetoric usually doesn't hurt when you are trying to win over, well, the populus. 😉
ugh, that didnt work right.
Hah
Hah
I think she could probably phrase it better so that she doesn't sound like a Democrat in that respect.
It's a trap.
She's for teh womyns, yay!
But is she a mamma grizzly?
Would it kill you guys to at least mention Warren Redlich? Do you need a shot of him in a stretched too tight white Reason t-shirt?
Wow. New York has two libertarian candidates for Governor? Are they going to have a primary?
I was happy to find out there's actually a Libertarian running for Governor & Senate here in Florida.
There's a libertarian running for governor? I'm not even sure there's a Democrat running for governor. McCollum and Scott are too busy kicking each other in the balls in every available news/ad slot.
Low budget & low profile, but yeah. He's the first Libertarian gubernatorial candidate I can remember since Janet Hawkins ('96? '00?). Whatever - better than Scott, or (especially) ferret-face McCollum. Brian Moore and Alex Sink are the Democrats, and there are a few non-partisans.
The guy running for Senate seems like more of a Ron Paul / Tea Party Libertarian. Still better than Rubio, the Democrats, or Charlie Crist.
If the governor's mansion has been home to the Johns, why not a madam?
+1
I believe it's (again) going to be the terminally unlikeable - and unelectable - Rick Lazio.
she's lame
"pot and pussy platform"
I don't need any more details then that. I'm in.
It has the added attraction of alliteration.
In the pot or...
Yeah both hmm.
"Madam Governor" Kristin Davis Wants to Legalize Pot, Poker, Prostitution in NY ......"
...... and outlaw mosques. She's one of the crazies on jihad against Cordoba House. So much for property rights and freedom of religion.
Link?
Finally, a candidate for NY Governor I can believe in. I hope she makes the General Election Ballot. Only one other choice, and if Carl Paladino loses the Republicum primary, he's out.
Besides, would'nt Kristin look good in DC next to our other useless Senator of the same sounding first name?
Went to high school with a girl named Sh'neille N. Her last name was Blow.
My brother went to grade school with a kid named Donald McDonald.
The campaign commercial is well-produced and informative. The candidate is well-spoken and definitely no "imbecile." She makes the excellent point that she has paid her debt to society AND been successful employing people in private-sector business, which is more than most pols in the capital can say. If she wins, NY wins. If she loses, but gets her party on the ballot, NY wins. What's not to like?
That's a rack I can believe in.
Campaign slogan should be, "If you're gonna get screwed it might as well be done by a professional."
Makeover time! Surely she can afford a decent hairstylist or a better wig. Most definitely needs a personal trainer and the Bowflex. And a saleslady at Macy's could do a better makeup job. Until then TV appearances are NOT helping.
Head for everyone!
Stop spoofing you moron
Kristan Davis is what "liberals" (read left wing progressives) should be like and because they are not is why I hate them.
Why?
She's a businesswoman not someone who wants to take w/o providing something. She's the exact opposite of the Progressive movement. Just because she likes to fuck doesn't make her progressive.
Is it just me or, if you close your eyes, does she sound like Sandra Bullock?
Just asking...
I wish she was running for Governor in my state, she would get my vote and full support.
This is the best campaign video so far: http://vimeo.com/13946702
It's called "Nobody's Puppet" and it's running in the 1st Congressional District in RI.
