Rick Barber Warns America: We Are Becoming Nazi North Korea!
Rick Barber is an insane person who wants to represent you, the good citizens of Alabama! And I'll give you one guess where this historical narrative—that growing deficits and a stupid health care bill will lead to Nazi-style genocide or, failing that, will turn the United States into North Korea—comes from. Here's Barber's latest ad, which includes cameos from Dale Peterson, Abe Lincoln, and some guy with a mustache singing about America.
Bonus Barber insanity here.

Hey one of these days the paranoids are going to be right.
What you said, John!
I don't think the guy's crazy or anything, but this ad is surely over-the-top.
But is he crazier than the Democrat currently representing this district.
I mean, the default is crazy. The choice is generally between the crazier of two evils.
They're pretty much never right. This ad and his others are just plain frightening. I'd like to see this guy have a conversation with Alvin Greene.
They're usually right. But they're crazy.
Works for me. I'd vote for him. You got someone better?
Cent is right.
I just sitting on the commode this morning reading a Reason magazine (paper subscriber) where some idiot was defending the Tea Party? To me, this video clip perfectly captures the nataionalistic, uber-patriotric, crazier-than-a-shithouse-rat confluence that is the Tea Party.
yeah because one guy represents everything about an entire national movement. That makes sense.
I was thinking of having slumber parties with 10 or 12 million people but I decided it was easier to pick one guy as the poster child. It was this guy or the woman who said, "Keep your government hands off my medicare."
All people who read while they shit are stupid.
What if you look at porn while you shit, instead?
What if you look at porn while you shit, instead?
Just looking at or masturbating to it, while shitting?
Depends how stupid one is, I suppose.
Shit makes a pretty good lube*
*Depending on consistency.
Just looking at or masturbating to it, while shitting?
Lobster girl was the centerfold this month.
it's just like eating in India... don't get your hands mixed up!
LOLZ
...thats pretty much the only reaction I have to this ad. Sheesh. They just keeping raising the stadards on how dramatic the campaign ads can be.
Is it really smart to suggest Abe Lincoln is your buddy in a political race in Alabama?
I have a little bust of Abe sitting on top of my external hard drive looking down in a Fatherly way on me as I type. Abe presides. He presides over my laptop and my blog posts, just as he used to preside over this country, and in the same manner he still presides over the Mall and thousands of tourists.
As a Southerner and a libertarian individualist I have to agree with you that he is a poor choice as a symbol for this campaign since he didn't just champion big government and trample on peoples rights, he implemented those policies with military force and we live with those consequences today.
A much better leader to recall would be Ronald Reagan. As imperfect as he might seem to some, he believed that the American people could be trusted to make decisions for themselves and he promised over and again, to get the goddamn government off the backs of the people. Though that was not his exact choice of words.
Check out the mongoloid idiot, lower left, at 0:52. Rick Barber is an equal-opportunity madman. Or is he...an evil genius?
That ad really could use some Dramatic Cat.
or some dramatic olberman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNpoJ8W53D8
Whoa, Ryan Reynolds is a better actor than I gave him credit for.
His hair registers a 6.7 on my gaydar. NTTAWWT.
Barber may be overthetop but he's a former marine, small biz guy, and hosts poker tournaments at the pool halls that he owns.
His opponent is a lawyer and current city councilwoman with a laundry list of bullcrap volunteer experiences on her resume.
Barber FTW!
A will take a paranoid pool hall operator or a busy body community activist any day.
yeah, but after watching this

im convinced this guy has no place going near capital hill
That clip's pretty cool if you click the vuvuzuela soccer ball icon that youtube just added.
Nonsense, everyone knows we're turning into Argentina, not North Korea. And lemme tell you, if you have money, there are worse places to be than Buenos Aires.
This seems more likely. Obama may have been elected mostly on personality, but he is not doing well at keeping it up. Except for the true believers, who are becoming less numerous, he is not Dear Leader to many.
So Michelle will become Evita? Jesus Fuck.
And Barack will take to wearing an eleventy-star general outfit.
I think you mean Brazil. Argentina is an improvement over the U.S.
Is North Korea better than the Nazi Germany BusHitler turned the country into?
Heh heh, true...hyperbole knows no party affiliation.
We never do it;)
some guy with a mustache singing about America.
That's the THIRD (or is it fifth?) VERSE OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM SWEDE-BOY! If you don't like it pack your smelly fish and pig-tailed blonde into the family Volvo and drive back to fuckin' fjords!
B+ Needs some racial slurs.
It's the 4th verse. There only are 4, at it's the last one. Honestly, is Wikipedia really all that hard to use?
This is legitimately frightening.
Eh, to me it's less frightening than, say, some standard-issue left-liberal who thinks he's going to eliminate poverty and injustice by growing the federal government some more. And when that inevitably fails, grow it some more.
Would a world with out Hyperbole be so great?
And why does Michael C. Moynihan hate hyperbole so much?
Did a hyperbole user steal his girlfriend in high school or something?
So much of his criticism of the left and right seems to be around their use of language to convey ideas...every once in awhile he actually gets around to attacking those ideas and does a great job but this article is not one of those instances.
I don't know, I think he knows how to call a spade.
When he gets up and shoves* Ol' Abe out of the way anyone else notice the ATM and Bud light neon sign in the back ground...
I think this was filmed in a bar.
*in homage of Weigel and his inappropriate use of verbs.
I'm pretty sure he owns a bar, so it wouldn't surprise me if he filmed it there.
I've been to that pool hall before. Appropriate sleazy with cheap domestics IIRC.
This guy's ad campaign is so incredibly campy, it's amazing that it hasn't become an internet meme yet. Hammy performances, speechifying, melodrama: it's all there. One wonders how many former Zena and Hercules writers work for Rick Barber's campaign.
Unfortunately, this district could turn out to be the difference between divided government or continuing one-party rule.
It's shit like this that makes Dave Weigel wish he wasn't currently out of a job. True embarrassment.
I just heard this evening that he landed at MSNBC, at least part-time. He's a commentator on Olberman.
I like the crazy guy.
Seriously, at least maybe he'd make for some hilarious C-Span clips.
Exactly. One way or another, the gubbmint gets half my income. I'd at least like some lulz in return.
For a Republican ad, it's refreshingly free of fag-bashing, macho drug-warrior talk, or fearmongering over immigration.
I'll take a party of these nuts over a party of John McCains any day.
That is the real issue. That is the issue that will continue in this country when these poor tongues of Judge Douglas and myself shall be silent. It is the eternal struggle between these two principles -- right and wrong -- throughout the world. They are the two principles that have stood face to face from the beginning of time, and will ever continue to struggle. The one is the common right of humanity and the other the divine right of kings. It is the same principle in whatever shape it develops itself. It is the same spirit that says, 'You work and toil and earn bread, and I'll eat it.' No matter in what shape it comes, whether from the mouth of a king who seeks to bestride the people of his own nation and live by the fruit of their labor, or from one race of men as an apology for enslaving another race, it is the same tyrannical principle.
Does anyone know who his Public Relations Manager is?
As a long time resident of Alabama I can tell you that demagoguery plays very well in this state. Remember George Wallace?
This guy talks too fast for me in his adds. Exactly what is his stand on the issuhs?
Resources like the one you mentioned here will be very useful to me! I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful.
This nice post ! i like this post>...
