Alert commenter JW hips us to this Washington Post account of protests in Montgomery County, Maryland, which–like the rest of the country–is broke.
Union leaders representing government workers led a rally on the roof of the parking lot behind the [County] council's office building, while parent and teacher groups gathered on the council's front steps. More than 400 government employees clanging blue and yellow cowbells chanted, "We've had enough!" […]
[C]ouncil member Valerie Ervin (D-Silver Spring), a former labor organizer, joined three council colleagues at the rooftop rally and led employees in chants of "No Justice, No Peace!"
"Look around you and see who's had your back," Ervin said.
Subtle.
What's got these champions of the little guy up in arms? This:
Council member Phil Andrews (D-Gaithersburg-Rockville) proposed legislation that would end controversial retirement benefits known as "phantom" cost-of-living increases.
Under an agreement last year, the county makes contributions to the pensions of general government workers, firefighters and police based on raises they did not receive. Ending that unusual practice would save $7.2 million in the next fiscal year and more than $200 million over 40 years, Andrews said.

Don't forget, though: Those pube-sec employees are the ones running into a burning building while we're running out of them. Which happens all the time, so they deserve to live like royalty.
I'm actually referring to a comment that a union hack made (twice) on Stossel when Matt Welch appeared. The guy got his ass handed to him - this was clear even from the most objective viewpoint (mine).
You have to stop doing that. I'm splitting my ribs and I don't think any of the government employee trolls would actually get that. They believe in a money tree tended by their sense of compassion. BTW, babelfish translates that last word to mean 'entitlement' in non bureaucratese.
They're closing some rec centers because of budget cuts. Last week they held a giant rally downtown where they chanted "we're not going to take it anymore!"
Apparently, in Baltimore, easy access to publicly funded rec centers is a civil rights issue.
Under an agreement last year, the county makes contributions to the pensions of general government workers, firefighters and police based on raises they did not receive. [emphasis added]
Some of those protesting were carrying heat. But rather than tyrants, they spill the blood of evil dopers.
Subtlety has nothing to do with it. It's the irony that pube-sec employees are pissed that the trough is running dry, when they've had their fat faces in it for so long.

More pube-secs need to be encouraged to do this - stand on the roofs of buildings, the taller the better, I mean. Then they should be doubly encouraged to jump.
Getting closer. Drip, drip, drip...
So they "have had enough" of not getting more stuff at other people's expense.
yeah, really seem like more of a "haven't had enough" situation
Don't forget, though: Those pube-sec employees are the ones running into a burning building while we're running out of them. Which happens all the time, so they deserve to live like royalty.
Are those real burning buildings, or is it an elaborate metaphor for the state of state and local governments today?

Best quote on the internet this week.
Wow. Thanks!
Under an agreement last year, the county makes contributions to the pensions of general government workers, firefighters and police
Yeah, the asshat at the DMV is running into burning buildings.
If only...
Yes, sage, public school teachers do a lot of running into burning buildings.
Sweet! My first hat tip. :::smokes:::
I remember my first like it was yesterday. Try to drink it all in.
Was it anything like this?
Close. But with bourbon. And Epi's mom. And she was in a wheelchair, which is so hot.
Wheelchair sex. Yes, that is happening.
Just remember to lock the wheels.
Oh. I guess I've been doing it wrong.
All kidding aside, I did once have a one-night-stand with a girl in a leg cast. Hot.
Was that when my mom broke her leg?
I said "girl in a leg cast." I could never handle a woman like your mother.
I was just being humorous for the purposes of self-aggrandizement.
Was that when your mom broke her leg?
I was just being humorous for the purposes of self-aggrandizement.
Or what I like to call, that which keeps the voices in check.
I once did a girl with an arm in a sling. That's at least an order of magnitude less awesome than a leg cast.
Never underestimate the pain-inducing properties of braces.
That's my advice for the day.
I once did a girl which caused my arm to be in a sling. Jealous boyfriend.

You ain't playin' pro-ball until you get five.
clanging blue and yellow cowbells
Inquiring minds want to know what kind of shoes the protesters were wearing.
"No Justice, no peace" seems like a call for violence to me. I thought it was only angry racists on the right who did that sort of thing.
They must be Teabaggers. Keith Olbermann told me only right-wing extremists are violent. That's like the definition of right-wing.
Closer to carpetbaggers.
Costa Rica is looking better and better each day.
Ecaudor might be a better choice. I love Costa Rica but its leaders have nanny-state tendencies.
I hope this rally was held on the government's nickel. If not, any protester who didn't have authorized personal time off might be in trouble.
(stifles cynical laughter)

I was looking for more reasons to be glad i'm moving to Bmore next month. Thanks public servants!
(1st useful thing they've done for me in 16 years)
I don't think that's necessarily an upgrade, at least not from what I hear listening to WBAL.
Its at least a different set of bullshit.
My next move will be *out* of Maryland. I can't stands it no more.
This kind of shit is happening in Baltimore too.
They're closing some rec centers because of budget cuts. Last week they held a giant rally downtown where they chanted "we're not going to take it anymore!"
Apparently, in Baltimore, easy access to publicly funded rec centers is a civil rights issue.
Don't blame me. I voted against Carcetti.
And, you probaby voted for Clay Davis too. Sheeeeeettttttt!
At least it's more subtle than heat-packing protesters carrying signs with Jefferson's "blood of tyrants" quote.
Some of those protesting were carrying heat. But rather than tyrants, they spill the blood of evil dopers.
Subtlety has nothing to do with it. It's the irony that pube-sec employees are pissed that the trough is running dry, when they've had their fat faces in it for so long.
I do like your ability, though, to redirect rather than address the topic at hand. Trollerific!
::sings:: It's troll-erifically delicious!
A Democrat proposed that? I hope I don't die from shock.
That Rick Santorum, thank gaia he got booted out of Congress. He and his ilk, sure, they understood free markets and the need for govt. restraint.
But the dude's personally against gay sex. I mean, fuck! You can't pick up chicks (or dudes!) when you vote for guys like that.
These Democrat Marylanders, I support them. I mean, I just bet they've seen every Will and Grace episode. Like me. And I'm cool.

Government restraint...Government restraints
Remember, folks, it's all about protecting the public. Yeah, that's ticket.
More pube-secs need to be encouraged to do this - stand on the roofs of buildings, the taller the better, I mean. Then they should be doubly encouraged to jump.
You guys call them pube-secs when just "pubes" would be more to the point.
If only the union head's name was Richard, sigh.
Montgomery County being broke is just plain ridiculous.
Maryland would be a great place to live if it weren't for Montgomery, PG countries and Baltimore City.
You should come visit!
All us govt employees get 2 months off and we want raises just like in the US of A.
I'm a member of the tax paying public and my teat is about worn out.
Lets start calling these folks douchebaggers and the other folks teabaggers and everyone can be happy. Its baggerific Thursday!
