In their strange world, there are endless numbers of Communists, Socialists and Nazis who must be discovered and exposed, though it didn't seem to me they really knew which was which. […]
It's my fear that the Tea Party movement will continue its campaign of intimidation, much like the Brown Shirts of pre-war Germany or the armed right-wing American militias in the 1990s, until there is serious destruction, injury or death.
The recent visitation of a busload of Tea Party Brown Shirts to Senator Harry Reid's home state of Nevada, threatening to oust him in the next election, revealed a crowd of angry, raging people on the verge of a fight. All they needed was a lighted match - the right or wrong word said by an opponent and all hell would have broken out. Apparently these Tea Party Brown Shirts are traveling across the country, taking their rage state-to-state, led by Court Fool Palin […]
Here's the bottom line, folks: The Republican right-wingers are dangerous. They should be considered homeland and homegrown security threats and we - those of us who live and vote on the other side of the aisle - are their targets. How do I know if one of these gun-toting hysterics won't let loose and "shoot to kill", following the orders of their leader, Sarah Palin? […]
If ever there was a reason to rally support around this administration to ensure it stays in office for two terms, it's not only because President Obama is a visionary saddled with cleaning up the mess of a post-Fascist administration, but you are now witnessing the true Republican creed in action: When they don't get their way, they get violent. They believe in the use of threats and they order their constituents to "shoot 'em between the eyes".
Here's a warning to all freethinking Americans: You Could Be The Next Republican Target. After all, this is the party that introduced homeland spying, the Patriot Act, and the end to all personal privacy. Given those achievements, it's not all that far-fetched that they would incite another Civil War, is it?
[T]he GOP, in a desperate bid to regain power, has energized that 15%-20% of genuinely and willfully stupid citizenry. And, if we've learned anything from modern history, from Germany circa 1930s, the former Yugoslavia in the 90's to the genocide in Rwanda during the Clinton years… it's that once you get the moron-demographic "energized" and they become an angry mob, it's impossible to control them.
The early signs of trouble are already there. The ball's rollin' and, unless it stalls and soon, someone(s) going to get killed. Already we are seeing a rash of Kristallnacht-like incidents at Democratic Party offices around the country[.]
It's true that most tea partiers want nothing to do with violence and hate speech. But the "government is bad" message now attracting followers is a milder version of what has long been a rallying cry for far darker forces in this country.
And evidence is growing that those darker forces are involved in the tea party groups, see them as fertile recruiting soil and hope to turn the movement toward their agendas.
Consider the quotes of "Whites Forward" on the neo-Nazi white supremacist website Stormfront: "We don't have to be 'fringe'. There are potential allies in these tea party type groups…even though they aren't WN (White Nationalist) material yet."
Just this month, for example, [Dick] Armey said in a speech at the National Press Club that Democrats and others "do not cherish America the way we do." From there, it's a short trip to the comments this week by Dale Robertson, an ex-Marine and the self-proclaimed founder and president of the "Tea Party of 1776."
Mr. Robertson referred to "the Obama putsch," an obvious comparison of the president to Adolf Hitler, whose first, failed attempt to take power in Germany was the 1923 "beer-hall putsch." If the nation doesn't rise up to "ha
lt the bleeding of our freedom," the next move of the "national socialists" — an obvious comparison of the Democratic Party to the Nazi Party — will be to "come for our sovereignty, and our beloved nation will be flooded with millions of illegal aliens converting America into a socialist state."
There's a reason why Dale Robertson's name keeps coming up in these stories: He claims to be a Tea Party spokesman, he loves talking to the media, and he shows all signs of being a racist dickhead. He has also, as the noted right-wingers at Mother Jones have repeatedly pointed out, been serially condemned and shunned by…Tea Party organizations! Particularly in his home state of Texas.
I will say it again: I would love to never see another facile comparison to Adolf Hitler or Nazi Germany in my lifetime (unless, of course, it's really funny). But their staying power does suggest that, in addition to alarmist, opponent-demonizing hyperbole, Americans of almost all stripes share a more positive common trait: They really do hate Nazis.

A meme (pronounced /mi?m/, rhyming with "cream"[1]) is a postulated unit of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, which can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals or other imitable phenomena.
The term is almost always used with a cultural gentics framework. Memes compete, breed, and die out in a culture in such a framework. I see the point, but it has not as yet evolved beyond a good word to use for a set of ideas, concepts, or beliefs and how said set changes with time.
A postulated unit of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, which can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals or other imitable phenomena.
A usage of the term "meme" which arose from memetics (analysis of memes) is that they are idea sets that spread organically, voluntarily, and peer to peer, rather than by compulsion, predetermined path, or completely automated means.
All these journalist getting the same idea at what looks like the same time due to publication lag times is this definition of meme in perfect action.
Think of a single parrot in a pet store learning a dirty word and when you come back from lunch they are all screeching it.
The parrot example is called "mimicry". Actually, you may want to hang on to that, because a squawking room of parrots, who repeat words but have no understanding of their meaning, is exactly what is going on here.
So...meme...a fancy word for monkey-see, monkey-do? A nonsense word for mimicry?
But the journalists aren't parrots. They only resemble them it that it looks like mimicry, but parrot mimicry is unconscious. Memecry is self-serving mimicry. Calling it meme is to highlight the self-serving nature of it.
It's the cultural evolution version of a gene. Jesus, is it that hard to figure out? Go read what Richard Dawkins says about it if you need it spelled out for you.
Excepting matters of national security, you didn't here any condemnation of political expression from the right. You'd be hard pressed to find any blog, message board, newspaper comments etc full up of calls to arrest Democrat politicians, the NYTs and WP editorial boards, and rank and file "progressives".Look now, The extra amusing part is the right and "teabaggers" are being condemned for holding ideas about limited government and dsdain for central authority that are much more moderate than prevailing libertarian opinion
"Excepting matters of national security"? That's a big exception. And the Neocons and FReepers regularly referred to dissenters as traitors, often openly.
What pisses me off most about the Democrat's disregard for political expression is the whole "free speech zones" thing. Hey, Obama -- the whole U.S. is a free speech zone!
I liked the editorial that spoke out against all the Republican excesses... but forgot to point out they were done with the full support of the Democrats and the current administration hasn't reigned them in one iota.
Gotta love the partisan hackery of both sides. It's like trying to argue with a cultist.
I'm pretty young, but to me like 1984 was much less goofy than I thought. People will willingly ignore reality that is right in front of them. I don't mean that they'll ignore "book" facts, but they'll ignore the fact that just a few years ago, anyone who silenced any opposition to the government was the epitome of evil descended from satan. Now it is anyone who opposes them that is the nazi.
Anyone else feel like they have a flaming piano sitting on their chest? Christ these articles depress me......
Unfortunately in these United States, it is not even on the installment plan. What remains of it is a broken down rusty freezer in the basement used to keep a couple of cases of beer slightly colder than room temperture.
I wasn't the first to say this here, but I'll say it again:
Generally if a dog takes a dump on your couch, pulling down your pants and pinching out a big steaming pile on top of it isn't considered "cleaning up the mess." Generally, speaking.
IF you're the one who made this comment in another thread that I am stealing, pls pop up and take credit. I would like to give credit to who deserves it. I hate to steal jokes.
You Could Be The Next Republican Target. After all, this is the party that introduced homeland spying, the Patriot Act, and the end to all personal privacy.
Yeah, and remember in 2006 when we Americans voted the Republicans out and the Democrats in, because we were damnfool enough to believe the craven jackasses when they said "Vote for us and this shit will stop?" They lied.
Note to the Democratic Party: just because your mascot is a jackass doesn't mean you have to spend your every waking moment living up to that. The same holds true for the white elephants of the GOP. A plague on both your overleveraged houses.
President Obama has done a great job undoing the Bush's corporatism: removing the worker's and government representatives from control of companies and returning them to the shareholders.
Wait, that was Barack Obama who corporatized Chrysler and GM.
The recent visitation of a busload of Tea Party Brown Shirts to Senator Harry Reid's home state of Nevada, threatening to oust him in the next election
How utterly horrifying; people are making known their intention to vote against politicians with whom they disagree, when the next election is held.
So pointing out and cataloging for the record that the left - guardians of civil discourse and executors of tempered rhetoric that they are - engages in repeated violations of Godwin's law on a daily basis when discussing the policies and personalities of doing so "tired?"
If you didn't violate Godwin's law on a daily basis, it wouldn't need to be pointed out that you're violating Godwin's law on a daily basis.
The only thing worse than X is complaining about X? I disagree.
The only thing worse than X is allowing those engaging in X to get away with engaging in X and lecturing people about the need for civility without reminding them that they regularly and explicitly engage in X.
, where X = overheated, nonsensical rhetoric and invocations of Nazis, Hitler and racist killers in the KKK.
You need to study up on Godwin's law (as do most people). What you call violations are actually confirmations of Godwin. All that Godwin said was that in internet discussion forums, as a thread gets longer, the probability of one side of an argument comparing the other side to Nazis or Fascists approaches 1.
""All that Godwin said was that in internet discussion forums, as a thread gets longer, the probability of one side of an argument comparing the other side to Nazis or Fascists approaches 1.""
Godwin was a goof. While it's true when discussing topics like governments going bad, fascism, rights, war, or killing Jews, Hitler's name will be brought up by someone eventually. However, you will probably never, or very rarely see Hitler's name brought up on threads about cooking, swimming, mountain climbing, astrology, or molecular biology no matter how long they get.
Oh, you just haven't been hanging around on the right crocheting forums and hanging in some of the (ahem) threads long enough.
There are knitting Nazis, cooking Nazis - all kinds of Nazis.
I always have understood that one corollary of sorts to Godwin's law is that when it happens (i.e., the invocation of Nazism) the person who does so has, at that point, clearly lost the argument.
""I always have understood that one corollary of sorts to Godwin's law is that when it happens (i.e., the invocation of Nazism) the person who does so has, at that point, clearly lost the argument.""
Yeah, as if Hitler references have no purpose in conversations of governments going bad, fascism, rights, war, or killing Jews.
As if we needed further evidence, the recent furor over the Tea Parties from the left and their associates in the MSM shows us just how hypocritically sanctimonious they have become.
One need look no further than this picture comparison between the Searchlight Tea Party rally in Nevada and a leftist rally in LA from last week. The results are stunning.
At the Tea Party you will find the occasional racist redneck who thinks Obama is an Indonesian Muslim radical set out to destroy America by hi masters, this is inevitable at a rally of this side. But in no way does he represent a majority or even a sizable minority. In contrast, look at the leftist parade in LA, which resembles most leftist protests we've seen over the last 10 years. A sizable MAJORITY of people in the crown carrying despicable and cowardly calls for death to Jews, our own troops, Bush, etc, not to mention a complete denial of America and Capitalism. One need not look hard for the "racist redneck" equivalent at these rallies, because the equivalent on the left is hardly a majority.
What we see from the media instead isn't a "we report you decide" outlook, but a "Tea Party is racist" storyline. The media didn't seem to care about the leftist anti-capitalist/anti-american protests during the Bush years, but now they've found it necessary to paint Tea Partiers as racist.
The should hang their heads in shame, as the mask has slipped and no one believes in even the pretense of unbiased news reporting anymore thanks to these idiots.
I always enjoy the irony that the people who most commonly shriek about how we need more government R&D spending are the same type who complain about the amount of money spent on defense, but that the few good things we've gotten from government R&D (the Internet and GPS) came from defense R&D.
The government (defense department) "invented" the internet by sending out an RFQ to people who actually knew how to design shit and make it work. Or perhaps I can have credit for inventing the worlds fastest computer. See, my idea is to take the current worlds fastest computer and make it twice as fast. I've already applied for the patent.
You can say that I was an early adopter in this regard when I was 12 in 1998. It was the adolescence of me and my peers that single handedly brought the internet into being in those early days. And back then, if we got caught, we got into serious trouble. There was no, "all kids are doing it" attitude, and our parents grew up in the seventies, so it meant a long discussion and potentially a trip to the psychiatrist. Now, most parents would just laugh.
I think the "hot chick" quotient has swung back towards the right these days. I'll take a Hannah Giles over just about any of the dirty hippies in the those pics from LA.
Yeah, from a political standpoint I found that link to be unmoving (you can cherrypick photos of nutjobs at any political gathering) but those two pics made it all worthwhile.
I agree with you completely that you can cherrypick photos of nutjobs from either protests. But there is definitely a difference beyond the politics between the twp protests. For one, the media never claimed that the leftists were being "racists" or used an isolated incident of bad behavior from a nutjob to tar the whole group. And two, the Tea Parties don't want to detroy the country or kill Jews, or have our troops shoot each other, or destroy capitalism, etc. etc. The leftists protests have people like this in abundance. You have to look hard to find the "redneck racist" at a tea party.
"But their staying power does suggest that, in addition to alarmist, opponent-demonizing hyperbole, Americans of almost all stripes share a more positive common trait: They really do hate Nazis."
I dunno - after awhile, people going on about the nazi'z - it sounds like those backwoods preachers going on and one and on...about those nekid wimen! They can't ever stop preaching about. Kinda like they saw a nekid wimen and can't git 'em out of their head. They're titivated (thats a cromulent word).
The recent visitation of a busload of Tea Party Brown Shirts to Senator Harry Reid's home state of Nevada, threatening to oust him in the next election, revealed a crowd of angry, raging people on the verge of a fight.
From what I saw, he's right. There was an angry group spoiling for a fight. Of course, they were Harry Reid's supporters.
It's my dearest hope that the Tea Party movement will continue until there is serious destruction, injury or death. You know, like Waco. That shit was hot. The Michigan raid didn't pan out?there was no redneck-corpse-fueled fire on TV for us to stroke off to?but don't let that get you down. There's always next time. Isn't that right, Mr. President? Mr. OUR President NOT THEIRS? NUDGE NUDGE
"Consider the quotes of "Whites Forward" on the neo-Nazi white supremacist website Stormfront: "We don't have to be 'fringe'. There are potential allies in these tea party type groups...even though they aren't WN (White Nationalist) material yet."
Wow, even Stormfront says they aren't racists?
If you say you're not a racist, then I guess it's still open to question, but if both you and the racists say you're not a racist?
The racists just said they weren't White Nationalist material yet. Maybe they think they've got the minority-hating attitude, but are just whiny pussies?
Wow, even the swaggering pissants at Stormfront think you're pussies. Looks like your movement is in trouble, sackdunkers. LOL
But hey, look on the bright side -- maybe you just need to earn more racist merit badges or something.
One of my students has taken to calling me Dr. Teabagger on her Facebook page because of a remark I made while going over Lagrange multipliers a few weeks ago. Not sure if it's more distrubing if she thinks I can't see it or if she thinks I can.
Another student was complaining about how there's no systematic, sure-fire way of using Lagrange multipliers to find minima and maxima, but rather it requires ingenuity. I replied that this is a class for scientists and engineers, not accountants, so creativity is required. Then I quipped that the only places where accountants are paid to be creative are organized crime and the federal government, "one of many similarities between the two."
This passed through that strange filter known as the young female brain and came out as me saying that the federal government was run by organized crime.
Hmm, you might be right. Since she was foolish enough to leave her photo albums open to anyone with an email address from this university, I'm sure I could find some useful blackmail material as a backup plan. (The only reason I know this is because one of her friends friended me, and was tagged in a photo in one of her albums licking her face with me in the background doing a spherical integral on the board. It showed up in my newsfeed and since it was taken in my classroom I considered it my business.)
"The only reason I know this is because one of her friends friended me, and was tagged in a photo in one of her albums licking her face with me in the background doing a spherical integral on the board."
According to Hop Scotch you can't.
The Internet was invented by Al Gore and paid for by the military and never mind about all the private companies who took the bare infrastructure and ran with it for the last 20+ years because they don't count and that means you might have to admit that government occasionally does something useful and any superior being knows that all Libertarians are against anything that is done by government and won't use it because...I don't know - I'm lost now -- explain it to us Scotch.
Here's the bottom line, folks: The "Republican right-wingers are dangerous. They should be considered homeland and homegrown security threats and we - those of us who live and vote on the other side of the aisle - are their targets."
It really does seem to be sinking in that what we're seeing is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
For every person that showed up in Searchlight (which isn't even close to Vegas), how many are there that aren't showing up to the rally?
I will say it again: I would love to never see another facile comparison to Adolf Hitler or Nazi Germany in my lifetime (unless, of course, it's really funny).
Why? What is wrong with everyone calling everyone else Hitler? Would you care if everyone called everyone else fucking idiots?
The idea that a usenet troll named godwin from 30 years ago is some sort of standard maker for polite political discourse seems flimsy.
As a White Nationalist, I can say that the Tea Party Movement is not a pro-White movement. We are in a position to know these things.
The vast majority of Tea Party conservatives genuinely believe in individualism and colorblindness. They crave non-White acceptance. If Alan Keyes or J.C. Watts was President of the United States, the Tea Party Movement would not exist.
That said, I would argue that the Tea Party folks are what we call "implicit whites." They exude whiteness, act white, and self select on the basis of whiteness ... even when they are not really conscious of doing so.
In the Obamanation, this innocent behavior is now tantamount to "racism." It is a disturbing trend.
Does Palin Support McCain's bill?Indefinite Detention of Citizens On Mere Suspicion?
Are You Scheduled For Government Interrogation If McCain's bill 3081 Is Passed?
On March 4, 2010, Sen. John McCain introduced S.3081, The "Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010."
Sen. McCain's S.3081 would eliminate several Constitutional protections allowing Government to arbitrarily pick up Americans on mere suspicion?with no probable cause. Your political opinions and statements made against U.S. Government could be used by Authorities to deem you a "hostile" "Enemy Belligerent" to cause your arrest and indefinite detention. S.3081 is so broadly written innocent anti-war protesters and Tea Party Groups might be arrested and detained just for attending demonstrations.
Considering how often Sarah Palin defends Free Speech, one can't help wonder why Palin is helping McCain's reelection to the U.S. Senate after he introduced possibly the most anti-Free Speech Bill in Modern U.S. History. Perhaps Palin or her Tea Party supporters haven't considered McCain's legislation might be used by a corrupt government administration to crush them. Tea Parties might question Palin whether she supports Sen. McCain's bill the "Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010." (S.3081)
Under S.3081, an "individual" need only be Suspected by Government of "suspicious activity" or "supporting hostilities" to be dragged off and held indefinitely in Military Custody. Government will have the power to detain and interrogate any individual without probable cause. Government need only allege an individual kept in detention, is an Unprivileged Enemy Belligerent suspected of; having engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners; or has purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners. How could one prove to Government they did not purposely do something? "Materially Supporting Hostilities" against the United States could include any person or group that spoke out or demonstrated disapproval against an agency of U.S. Government. It is foreseeable many Americans might go underground to Resist Government Tyranny. Definition for Unprivileged Enemy Belligerent: (Anyone Subject to a Military Commission)
At least under the Patriot Act, law enforcement generally needed probable cause to detain a person indefinitely. Passage of S.3081 will permit government to use "mere suspicion" to curtail an individual's Constitutional Protections against unlawful arrest, detention and interrogation without benefit of legal counsel and trial. According to S.3081 Government is not required to provide detained individuals U.S. Miranda Warnings or even an attorney.
S.3081 if passed will frighten Americans from speaking out. S.3081 is so broadly written, it appears any "individual" who writes on the Internet or verbally express an opinion against or an entity of U.S. Government or its coalition partners might be detained on the basis he or she is an "unprivileged enemy belligerent", "supporting hostilities against U.S. Government."
How might Americans respond should Government use this bill to take away their loved ones, family members and friends on mere suspicion? It is foreseeable McCain's bill will drive lawful political activists underground, perhaps creating the domestic terrorists McCain said we needed to be protected from.
McCain's bill mentions "non-violent acts" supporting terrorism in the U.S. and or emanating from America against a Coalition Partner. Non-violent terrorist acts" are covered in the Patriot Act to prosecute Persons that support "coercion to influence a government or intimidation to affect a civilian population." However, U.S. activists and individuals under S.3081 would be much more vulnerable to prosecution, if (charged with suspicion) of "intentionally providing support to an Act of Terrorism", for example American activists can't control what other activists might do illegally?they network with domestically and overseas. Under the Patriot Act, law enforcement generally needs probable cause to detain or prosecute someone. But under S.3081, law enforcement and the military can too easily use (hearsay or informants) to allege "suspicious activity" to detain an individual. It is problematic under S.3081 that detained individuals in the U.S. not involved in terrorism or hostile activities, not given Miranda Warnings or allowed legal counsel will be prosecuted for ordinary crimes because of their alleged admissions while in military custody.
Notably, McCain's S.3081 mandates (merging) Federal, State and Local Police and subsequently the U.S. Military to detain and hold Individuals in the U.S., even without probable cause.
Historically it is foreseeable under S.3081 that "erroneous informant information" could be used to detain innocent Individuals. Other countries have used lying informants to imprison; even execute political opposition.
Under S.3081 government may use an individual's phone call and email information to allege without probable cause "suspicious or hostile activity against a U.S. civilian population or the United States to detain Americans."

FYI: below is enclosed a copy of "Hitler's Discriminatory Decrees signed February 28, 1933." Although the Nazi Decrees are written differently than S.3081, the McCain bill could bring America to the same place crushing free speech and personal liberty. Note how the Nazi Government in Section (1) and (4), similar to U.S. S.3081, suspend personal liberty? shutdown Free Speech to intimidate Citizens speaking out against Government:
See Section 1
"Sections 114, 115, 117, 118, 123, 124, and 153 of the Constitution of the German Reich are suspended until further notice. Thus, restrictions on personal liberty, on the right of free expression of opinion, including freedom of the press, on the right of assembly and the right of association, and violations of the privacy of postal, telegraphic, and telephonic communications, and warrants for house-searches, orders for confiscations as well as restrictions on property, are also permissible beyond the legal limits otherwise prescribed."
Similar to McCain's S. 3081, but using different wording the Nazi Government in Section (4) see below, suspended Constitutional rights, ordered the arrest of Citizens for any ACT that might incite or provoke disobedience against state authorities. McCain's S.3081 instead mentions detaining and prosecuting Individuals for "supporting hostilities" against U.S. Government. S.3081 is so broadly written any person or group attending a protest could be arrested without provable cause and detained if government charged a protest-supported hostilities.
See Section 4
Whoever provokes, or appeals for or incites to the disobedience of the orders given out by the supreme state authorities or the authorities subject to then for the execution of this decree, or the orders given by the Reich Government according to Section 2, is punishable?insofar as the deed, is not covered by the decree with more severe punishment and with imprisonment of not less that one month, or with a fine from 150 up to 15,000 Reichsmarks.

And people think "meme" is a stupid word.
Behold the term in action, people.
Because it is.
Give me a one-line definition.
Aren't you a fucking barrel of fun today?
A meme (pronounced /mi?m/, rhyming with "cream"[1]) is a postulated unit of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, which can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals or other imitable phenomena.
You monkeyfucking prick.
That is really just the definition for "concept". Or maybe "idea".
And, my, are we not a tad oversensitive today? I know waking up in Cleveland cannot be the best start to any day, but there is no call for rudeness.
There's always a call for rudeness, bumcakes.
Afghanistan
What is the difference between you and a mallard with a cold?
One is a sick duck and I don't remember the rest but your mother's a whore.
You're almost there, $. A concept is one step past an idea. A meme is one half step past a concept.
"Shared idea" works as a definition, I guess. You vile little goblin.
'Shared concept' works even better. All kinds of memes are out there floating around in the noosphere.

Really...a "unit of ideas"? Can you tell me what that even means in practical terms?
A jpeg containing an idea or concept that has viral qualities.
So....Goatse?
Oh, definitely.
$,
A usage of the term "meme" which arose from memetics (analysis of memes) is that they are idea sets that spread organically, voluntarily, and peer to peer, rather than by compulsion, predetermined path, or completely automated means.
All these journalist getting the same idea at what looks like the same time due to publication lag times is this definition of meme in perfect action.
Think of a single parrot in a pet store learning a dirty word and when you come back from lunch they are all screeching it.
Very well stated, SF. But I think $ just hates neologisms.
I don't know, $. I think other people just understand the word better than yoiu do.
This.
That.
It's the cultural evolution version of a gene. Jesus, is it that hard to figure out? Go read what Richard Dawkins says about it if you need it spelled out for you.
It is called the Socratic method. Go read... Socrates if you need it demonstrated for you.
"Go read... Socrates"
Good luck with that.
oh ho! Excellent rejoinder, sir.
I stand corrected. Go read Plato, then.
In other contexts, that response is called "being too lazy to do the research yourself".
I don't think they have me in mind, which is frightening.
We, the elitist media who have worked very hard to get where we are, have no time for your arcane, angry and racist words.
And to think, during the Bush administration it was the Repubs who condemned anti-government speech.
Do we see a pattern here, folks?
If it's OK to call the Tea Partiers Nazis, it should also be OK for me to call my mother a cunt.
Christ, it was only a couple of years ago.
""Christ, it was only a couple of years ago."""
Too bad they can't blame it on legal pot.
Freepers are every bit as influential and powerful as United States Congressmen.
What pisses me off most about the Democrat's disregard for political expression is the whole "free speech zones" thing. Hey, Obama -- the whole U.S. is a free speech zone!
This guy's parents must have known he'd grow up to be a jackass. It's the only way to explain how they could name their son Dick Fricker.
Were they Chinese immigrants by any chance?
That's racist
[Insert Big Lebowski/"Chinaman" Quote Here]
The left knows full well it can avoid a lot of ugly if it just keeps pointing that finger outward.
As everyone knows, the Nazis campaigned for less government and more freedom.
Finally, someone who understands.
There's little I don't know about National Bocialism, having spent my youth in Minehead.
How do we know you really spent your youth in Minehead?
I have never invaded Poland! Not even once!
Voted for Mr. Hilter, did you?
I liked the editorial that spoke out against all the Republican excesses... but forgot to point out they were done with the full support of the Democrats and the current administration hasn't reigned them in one iota.
Gotta love the partisan hackery of both sides. It's like trying to argue with a cultist.
"It's like trying to argue with a cultist."
I think you are far more correct than be imagined. +?
I'm pretty young, but to me like 1984 was much less goofy than I thought. People will willingly ignore reality that is right in front of them. I don't mean that they'll ignore "book" facts, but they'll ignore the fact that just a few years ago, anyone who silenced any opposition to the government was the epitome of evil descended from satan. Now it is anyone who opposes them that is the nazi.
Anyone else feel like they have a flaming piano sitting on their chest? Christ these articles depress me......
I need to toke up right now.....
Cheer up. We'll all eventually die and not have to put up with this shit anymore. We have that to look forward to at least.
So that's what they mean by light at the end of the tunnel, lol. They are literally talking about the day we die.
And I always thought it was the day we were born --- those lights in the hospital operating room were blazing.
More importantly, is it pronounced notsee or nazzee? Because Captain Kirk used the latter when he battled the Space Nazis.
Every good Stephen King fan knows it is "Not-See".
What do you expect from some French-speaking Canadian?
Sabotage.
Well, in Tennessee, we pronounce it like it's supposed to be pronounced - NAT see.
Johnny Weissmuller, in one of those ancient Tarzan movies from the 40's, pronounced it Natsee.
Sean Connery pronounces it nazzee and that is good enough for me.
It actually really is...Not-see. Just shorthand for "National" as pronounced auf Deutsch (c. Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei)
Whatever. I'm going with Captain Kirk on this one. Has he ever been wrong?
It's in imitation of the Social-Democrats (Sozialdemokraten) who were nicknamed Sozis (Zoh-tsee).
And it's pronounced Nah-tsee.
Wait, I had something for this...
"How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think," Adolf Hitler once said.
The irony of Deborah Dupre writing this is not lost on me.
Beat me to it.
President Obama is a visionary saddled with cleaning up the mess of a post-Fascist administration
And, as we all know, the best way to end Fascism is to nationalize major sectors of the economy, and marginalize and demonize your opponents.
Freedom isn't free, I guess.
Actually, so long as the new steaming pile is smaller than the first one, you're cool.
What pinching - more like a blast of explosive diarrhea.
"A plague on both your overleveraged houses."
This
"The same holds true for the white elephants of the GOP."
Huh? That makes no sense.
Elephants ... buncha pasty flabby old white guys ... eh, fuck it.
You tried your best.
Like hell I did.
flabby old white guys
I miss the Illuminati. Those Majestic 12 usurpers are a disgrace to the name of elite conspirators every where.
White elephants, as in white elephant sale - as in large, expensive, and useless item that becomes a burden?
President Obama has done a great job undoing the Bush's corporatism: removing the worker's and government representatives from control of companies and returning them to the shareholders.
Wait, that was Barack Obama who corporatized Chrysler and GM.
Nevermind.
We all know that no Democrat ever voted for any of these laws that they now decry as Republican boots on the face.
+LOL
The recent visitation of a busload of Tea Party Brown Shirts to Senator Harry Reid's home state of Nevada, threatening to oust him in the next election
How utterly horrifying; people are making known their intention to vote against politicians with whom they disagree, when the next election is held.
OMFG call out the Marines!!!
It's just like Kristalnacht all over again!
Dear God in heaven, no!!! NOOOOOOO!!!
[shoots self in head to avoid a worse fate at the hands of "teh chemises bruns"]
"These totalitarians demanded that we vote for someone else!"
"KILL THEM!"
If there is one thing more tired than Nazi/Hitler analogies it's people complaining about Nazi/Hitler analogies.
I don't know, trolls are awfully tiresome.
And more tired than both is being troll.
I think that's a language misuse not a misunderstanding of Godwin's Law.
No Nazis for you!
Fascist.
*barf*
I liked that the "Fuck Capitalism" tee-shirt was for sale.
It's almost as good as libertarians using the internet.
Ooh, good one. It's Drink!-worthy, even though you phrased it in a slightly more subtle way than usual.
Finally, somebody else who recognizes that Gore really DID invent the internet!
No irony whatsoever. Capitalists converted a primitive government commo network into something that was actually worth money.
Sunk cost, nothing to be done about it but make the most of it.
Oh come on guys, it won't kill you to admit that it's a good thing that the government created the internet.
Right. Because no one else could have come up with the idea of connecting computers through telephone lines.
Murray Leinster "A Logic Named Joe" (1946).
Available for free at Baen's website, too!
Ah, good tip...
I want to say it was in a Lewis Padgett story too, but I can't track it down right now.
It was the Defense Department that did it.
It was the Defense Department that did it.
And it was designed for linking supercomputers and academic networks. It was never envisioned as a tool for the common man, let alone, commerce.
It's akin to claiming da Vinci invented the FAA.
""It's akin to claiming da Vinci invented the FAA.""
Those networks still use TCP/IP which the DoD created. Is the FAA using anything Da Vinci invented?
Lasers, computers, composite materials, Crystal meth, oh wait, does it have to be our defense department.
Godwin knows who invented meth. 😉
But it was clever and creative individuals who were NOT working for the gubmint who invented the WWW that operates across teh intertron, non?
PORN built the internet.
Actually, Scotch, the really really ironic thing is when anti-capitalists use the internet to bitch about capitalism.
Sound familiar?
Not only is that shirt for sale, but the logo is trademarked.
I would hit Hanna Giles and the "Impeach Obama" girl like a V-2 rocket.
I think the "hot chick" quotient has swung back towards the right these days. I'll take a Hannah Giles over just about any of the dirty hippies in the those pics from LA.
The hot chicks on the left have better things to do.
http://tiny.cc/36dks
Given your attitude, I can only assume that "you" is not one of the things on that list.
[Standard reaction as to not waste time]
Baby Killer
Like beg for a single drop of water to be splashed on the tip of their tongues in Hell?
Mmm, mmm, mmm
A "V-2 Rocket"? NAZI!
Many of these people are afflicted with what my grandfather used to refer to as "The screaming meemies."
Possible name for a new punk rock band?
Too late :
http://www.myspace.com/screamingmimiband
Pretty good music, too.
For "fear," always read desire.
NUDGE NUDGE
Matt Welch, I appreciate the Motley Cure alt text for Princess Palin.
Chicks with guns are hot. Motley Crue references just make them hotter.
I'm here for you, even if I don't necessarily share your non-musical tastes.
You da man
I just watched a couple of the YouTube Hitler parodies provided by the link in the story.
Agile Hitler was the shit.
"It's my fear that the Tea Party movement will continue its campaign of intimidation [...] until there is serious destruction, injury or death."
Doesn't that sound like a call to violence against Tea Party people?
Like nothing's going to stop this Tea Party thing until the government gets rough?
To Whom it May Concern:
If you want to look like an idiot, by all means get one of those tarted-up ARs and have your picture taken pointing it at the camera.
Good grief.
I suspect that played better in Alaska.
I don't think she needs the gun.
Meh, it's a FATS trainer. You can see the air hose / data cable on the bottom.
By the way, it's becoming increasingly clear that atheism is the new Nazis.
I mean in terms of Godwin's Law.
Talking about Nazis seems to be okay now, the gloves are off on that.
...and as threads grow longer, the probability of the subject turning to atheism approaches one.
Godwin's Law had a nice run. But it's all about atheism now.
Perhaps it could be a corollary to Godwin's Law
"Consider the quotes of "Whites Forward" on the neo-Nazi white supremacist website Stormfront: "We don't have to be 'fringe'. There are potential allies in these tea party type groups...even though they aren't WN (White Nationalist) material yet."
Wow, even Stormfront says they aren't racists?
If you say you're not a racist, then I guess it's still open to question, but if both you and the racists say you're not a racist?
You might not be a racist.
Okay, now you've got me curious: how do the Tea Parties relate to Lagrange multipliers?
Another student was complaining about how there's no systematic, sure-fire way of using Lagrange multipliers to find minima and maxima, but rather it requires ingenuity. I replied that this is a class for scientists and engineers, not accountants, so creativity is required. Then I quipped that the only places where accountants are paid to be creative are organized crime and the federal government, "one of many similarities between the two."
This passed through that strange filter known as the young female brain and came out as me saying that the federal government was run by organized crime.
At least she didn't call you "Mr. Teabagger." She has some respect.
She's probably reporting you to the ATF even as we speak.
Best sentence ever.
They got alotta nice girls-ah.
</obligatory>
Little known fact: Each member of ZZ Top holds a PhD in Mathematics.
Okay, I made that up, using Lagrange multipliers to locate the maximally foolish comment to make.
Tip o' the iceberg!
Say what you will about Teabaggism, at least it's an ethos.
It is a bit of an ethos, but I think it's also a bit of a fashion statement.
I await the next great fashion statement: TeaSaggers. It'll blow their minds.
Seriously, somebody should put out something like a Tea Party fashion do's and don'ts.
If you don't want people to think you're a party of apocalyptic survivalists, for instance, maybe you don't wear much camo?
And prominently displaying the Texas state flag is okay. ...when you're in Texas.
Everywhere else in the world? They think prominent displays of the Texas flag in their state are kinda creepy.
Is it an ethos, or a meme?
Last night on Top Gear, they drove a Lancia Sratos. Is that anything like an ethos?
I will say it again: I would love to never see another facile comparison to Adolf Hitler or Nazi Germany in my lifetime (unless, of course, it's really funny).
Why? What is wrong with everyone calling everyone else Hitler? Would you care if everyone called everyone else fucking idiots?
The idea that a usenet troll named godwin from 30 years ago is some sort of standard maker for polite political discourse seems flimsy.
I say let the Hitler accusations fly.
Hitler used to accuse people of being Hitler.
Well, I didn't LOL, but I did chuckle. I hate to defend Palin loving retards, but Jesus, I really hate the left anymore.
I miss the 90's. I'm loving the hyperbolic freakouts. It's a great reminder how fucking retarded media is and how partisan they are.
They are all Statist fetuses to me.
Why can't liberals just admit that they find all non-left wing political activism illegitimate?
Guess which other piece of legislation was passed on March23. The Enabling Act, March 23 1933. So Obama is kind of like Hitler.
Where are the communists? Oh here they are!
(Make Your Own Determination If The Analysis Herein Is Correct) See McCain Senate bill S.3081 at:
assets.theatlantic.com/static/mt/assets/politics/ARM10090.pdf
