Chalabi's New Crush

Remember Ahmad Chalabi? Exile Iraqi neo-con fave? Over at the Washington Times, Eli Lake reports that Chalabi is a big fan of President Barack Obama. Excerpt:

Then again, Saudi princes always love American presidents, too

"The few months of your administration have produced a sea-change in the perception of the United States of America in the world and specifically among Muslims," he wrote to Mr. Obama in a recent letter that he shared with The Times. "Your historic speech in Cairo has become a beacon of hope for the coming era." […]

Mr. Chalabi said he would have voted for Mr. Obama in the 2008 presidential election and that his longtime aide, Francis Brooke, who lives in Washington, did.

"Obama has the right attitude in Iraq," Mr. Chalabi said in an interview at one of his family's gated estates in northern Baghdad. "He wants to transform Iraq's relationship in the United States beyond security and intelligence to a meaningful alliance between two countries which see great mutual benefit in cooperation in terms of oil, the economy, development, culture, education and democracy."

Whole thing here.

  1. I remember reading about a piece of graffiti spotted in Baghdad shortly before the first election there that read “DOWN WITH CHALABI, MAN OF CATS.” I guess it sounds worse in Arabic.

    1. Where did you see this Graffitti? I am and Iraqi from Baghdad …Also Man of cats this does not sound Iraqi to me .. Its either you are not telling the truth or naive

  2. Wait- you mean Chalabi’s not hooded and shackled to a random-pulse generator at Bagram?

    1. Why would the Afghans want to let Chalabi in their country, even to be tortured?

  3. What do a-rabs have against cats, Xeones? I thought they were required to be nice to cats or something since Mohammed had a pet cat.

  5. He’s a real bootlicking toady as well as a chelib ibn chelbi.

(He might even be a gawad ibn gawad but I know nothing of his father’s profession so I can’t say for sure.)

  6. Eh, what do expect from a guy who crashes a White House party?

  7. Translation: “I continue to require funding.”

  8. If Muslim attitudes towards the US have actually experienced such a change (and I kind of doubt it), that would actually be rather disturbing.

Are they really so easily led around by the nose? Are they really such sheep that they are going to switch en-masse from believing in one fuck-headed insane view of the US as an international manifestation of Satan, to another equally fuck-headed worship of Obama?

One speech in Cairo and vast swaths of the Muslim population just decides “okay, now we’re supposed to be pro-American”, and they just DO IT? WTF?

Maybe it has something to do with being culturally accustomed to religious worship and strongmen. I hate to say it, but the whole idea that they’d switch their views based on one speech by one guy tends to support that notion.

  9. Where did you see this Graffitti? I am and Iraqi from Baghdad …Also Man of cats this does not sound Iraqi to me .. Its either you are not telling the truth or naive

See Warty’s link at 10:07. Either you are not as clever as you think you are, or… well, actually, that’s it.
