Former Reason intern Mike Riggs has a reliably amusing interview in the Washington City Paper with America's greatest pencil-mustached Baltimore patriot, John Waters. Distantly relevant political section:
WCP: Do you feel like you've been cheated, now that teabagging is back in style and you've been given none of the credit?
JW: I never feel like I've been cheated. I'm not a bitter person. I think I have a pretty nice life and I'm not angry about much. And the whole teabagging thing is glorious. What happened was, when the whole Republican teabagging thing started getting press, all the newscasters on liberal stations thought it was funny because it reminded them of Pecker. It brought a movie I'd made back into the news. I was thrilled.
WCP: Was there a boost in sales of Pecker?
JW: That I don't know, but there was certainly a boost in talk, and whenever there's a boost in talk, that usually translates to lots of things. It helps my spoken word thing. It helps overall. It's fame maintenance.
Whole thing, including inappropriate details of Riggs' alleged sexual exploits, here. Pecker's teabagging scene here.

Pecker is a great film. Especially if you make your living as an artist.
I worked with a high school kid at a major modern art museum who is a great artist. He created a piece called "16 Jonbenets". It was an homage to Warhol's "16 Jackies" He searched the internet for pictures of Jonbenet Ramsey that were eerily similar to the poses in the Warhol piece (Jonbenet with a hat, etc.).
John Waters saw it, loved it and bought it. Gave the kid the keys to his summerhouse telling the kid just to drop it of when he got the chance.
I wouldn't exactly call not-losing-your-virginity-until-college a sexual exploit, but I applaud Rigg's courage in admitting it.
You are not alone, Riggs!

Imposter!
Um, I understand that your intern is young, but I am pretty certain teabagging predates John Waters...
Teabagging is as old as time. It wasn't "the thing to do" until 1998, when Waters made Pecker.
Duh.
Dammit, I read the title and wondered what the hell the former Drug Czar had to do with teabagging.
John Waters is a genius, as William Burroughs said John Waters is, "the pope of trash". hmm might be time to watch Pink Flamingos again.
