Obama's "Firm Pledge" Against Any Sort of Tax Increase on Families Making Under $250,000
As the public option ressurrects in time for Halloween, and health care reform (read: massive new spending for not much if any more real coverage much less actual health) shambles forward like a two-man Frankenstein monster, bookmark this clip, which comes via Instapundit via Americans For Tax Reform:
As Matt Welch has noted, Obama has already busted his "firm pledge" that no family making under $250,000 would see any form of tax increase (and let's not even bring up Obama's pledge of enacting a "net spending cut" in a fiscal year that saw a record-high deficit that surged to 10 percent of GDP). But put on your best Al Pacino and admit that, ooo-waaa, he's just getting warmed up.

It's not a "tax increase," motherfuckers! It's revenue enhancement for the benefit of hard-working American families. Suck my dick, losers!
I am not a monster! I am Rahm Emanuel!
Meshuggah!!! Stop leaving dead gefelte fish at my door, schmuck!
We need healthcare reform before Halloween to care for the children who will eat needles and razorblades hidden in their treats.
It's for the children.
That's right, Reason paper tigers, keep up the criticism, we are totally into letting a thousand flowers bloom here in America. Rest assured that we won't forget all you have to say!
But Ms. Dunn :-), I thought we were supposed to only pay attention to what Obama says.
Would those flowers be orchids, by chance?
*crying, sobbing and wailing*
LEAVE OBAME ALONE!
You forgot
HE IS JUST CLEANING UP THE MESS GEORGE BUSH LEFT HIM!!
John, it's really nice to see you leaning away from the darkside. LOL
That is right. I have come to realize that Bush running a $500 billion deficit means that Obama has no choice but to run a $1.5 trillion dollar one. How else is Obama supposed to clean up Bush's spending mess?
Yes - also pay no attention to the fact that the Dems conrolled Congress for the last 2 years of the Bush administration. All the spending is all Bush's fault!!!!
Apparently, the meme "We'll make it up in volume" applies to fiscal policy as well.
I want a Reason.TV video of this, and I want it yesterday. Gillespie, go put on some eyeliner, take off your shirt, and make it happen. 🙂
But he is POWERLESS without the jacket!
LEAVE GILLESPIE ALONE!!!!!
Thanks for getting that Chris Crocker voice into my head.
EVERYBODY, LEAVE JOHN TAGLIAFERRO ALONE!!!
"I outta take a flamethrower to this place! Woo-aah!"
But put on your best Al Pacino
...get coked up, and watch out for the dude with the chainsaw? That sounds like a good halloween party.
"I can make a firm pledge ..."
"Can" = know how to; *not* am actually doing it now
"Under my plan ..."
= You're going to be living my *reality*, so it will not true that ...
Continuing to study Obamaese ...
People making less than $250,000... Read My Lips!
Obama's plan: 1) create massive inflation until everyone is making $250k a year. 2) Tax everyone. 3) Declare victory on middle class.
This is just an idea, and I have mixed feelings about it, but perhaps we should start a "Sell US Bonds" campaign. It would tell people how our debt burden is too much, how congress spends irresponsibly, and how they should dump their US bonds before it's too late. It might be the only way to reign in deficit spending.
yes, I'm sure our campaign will have a massive impact on the Chinese government [/sarcasm]
It's not a tax hike. It's a temporary refund adjustment!
Please be advised we do not consider you to be a libertarian organization, and neither should anyone else. I'll show you to criticize us! What do you think this is, a democracy?
[CHANGE!]
Beyond a $30,400-per-couple dinner for the DNC, Obama will attend a health care rally with tickets starting at $100. His comments at that event will be pumped live via webcast to house parties around the nation, where supporters plan to call voters and ask them to lobby Congress to pass a health care reform bill.
Obama's New York sprint also includes a visit with counterterrorism workers to thank them for their efforts. By holding an official event along with his fundraising, Obama dramatically reduces the cost of presidential travel that's charged to the political campaigns. Taxpayers pick up the rest of the tab.
[/CHANCE!]
No, I am not surprised nor particularly angry over this. Like the tax increases and the increased deficits, I cynically expected it.
McCain would be selling access to the wealthy and campaigning on the public dime as well had he been elected.
Could you please post a list of the Obama tax increases which are in effect right now?
$8,000 tax credit for first time homebuyers. I make too much to qualify for it (but under $250,000). This isn't a tax increase per se, but I'm competing against people in the marketplace who have an $8,000 advantage.
The federal cigarette tax is skyrocketing under Obama, a tax that tends to fall most heavily on low-income Americans.
Whoa, a politician lied? That's unpossible!
I need Lionel Hutz to trademark that for me. And for crayons to come in more flavors then dirty wax.
I hope we all get Life Alert under the public option. ;o)
Did Jack Abramoff pay for the ATR to send this around? Oops, I'm sorry, that's rude: Abramoff is in jail.
How did he lie? He said, "under my plan" no one will see any tax increases. Well, I'm assuming, that under his plan, no one would've seen any tax increases. But his plan is no longer viable. And why is that? Because the government owes a ton more money than it has.
Now, I know all you libertarians want to end Social Security today and let the old people fend for themselves, and end Medicare and Medicaid and let the old and the poor pay out of pocket for their health care. And you want to end public schools and end public universities and end government backed student loans... and on and on.
You guys can all meet in a phone booth somewhere. The rest of the country wants all these goodies, and they want government to provide the goodies to them. And that requires... TAXATION. Massive taxation. I don't see anyone running away from Norway or Sweden or Denmark to come to America. And that's because they get value for their tax dollars.
Yeah, like in Sweden where they have universal vouchers for education. In Norway their tax dollars go towards drilling for offshore oil.
And all of those countries have lower populations than the US, with much smaller areas. Not to mention they have more social and statist control over consumption and utilities as well.
I don't see anyone running away from Norway or Sweden or Denmark to come to America.
Maybe they can't afford a ticket? 😉
Boring and repetitive.
Bring some original thoughts next time you stop by.
Given that the real Joe Strummer is dead, I find your posting name offensive.
In other words, he didn't know that we were in massive debt at the time, and he just figured that out as President? Wow. I may have to rethink my position that "at least Obama seems to have more of a clue than Bush did"
STFU, Joe Strummer.
As a libertarian, I'd be more than happy to get out of the way of your progressive agenda. Just don't force me to be a part of it.
The rest of the country wants all these goodies, and they want government to provide the goodies to them. And that requires... TAXATION. Massive taxation.
Yes, they want those goodies, but they don't want to pay for them - they want someone else to pay for them. And they will support massive taxation just so long as they think someone else will be paying the taxes instead of themselves.
And they will support massive taxation just so long as they think someone else will be paying the taxes instead of themselves.
Or that they will receive more than they paid for.
"The rest of the country wants all these goodies, and they want government to provide the goodies to them."
It doesn't matter what the "rest of the country" supposedly wants; we have a Constitution for a reason. It's infantile to assume that because a majority wants something then it is right or good. Put three people in a room and two could democratically vote to oppress the third if they do not abide by any higher law than their own wants.
You guys can all meet in a phone booth somewhere.
What's a "phone booth"?
Win!
You forgot roads. I guess that's one thing that's original about your comment.
Sweden and Norway send between .3 and .99 people per thousand to the US each year.
Fairly typical for western Europe. Higher than Spain, lower than UK.
If Obama's plan is not viable now, it was viable then either and he knew it. He was either lying or unconscionably ignorant. Take your pick.
"Now, I know all you libertarians want to end Social Security today and let the old people fend for themselves, and end Medicare and Medicaid and let the old and the poor pay out of pocket for their health care. My grandmother lived to be 90. I TOOK CARE OF HER NOT THE FUCKING GOVERNMENT. She lived off a pention her husband secured working on the railroad. See, Joe Strummer, if that's your real name, there was a time when families took care of their own. There was a time when young males didn't fuck and run.
Really?
Yeah, I find that highly doubtful. There just used to be more fathers of daughters with shotguns.
You seen the out-of-wedlock birth stats lately? Who do you think is paying for all of those kids?
More than 1.6 million babies were born to unmarried women in 2006, the highest number ever recorded in the United States. The 2006 total (1,641,946 births) was nearly 8 percent greater than in 2005 (1,527,034) and a 20-percent increase from 2002 when the recent steep increases began (Table D). The birth rate for unmarried women, which relates nonmarital births to unmarried women in the childbearing ages, climbed nearly 7 percent between 2005 and 2006 to 50.6 births per 1,000 unmarried women aged 15?44 years. This measure has also risen substantially since 2002, by 16 percent. The third key measure of nonmarital childbearing, the percentage of all births to unmarried women, also rose in 2006, to 38.5 percent, up from 36.9 percent in 2005 and 34.0 percent in 2002. These increases follow a period of relative stability during the years 1998?2002 (Table D).
The number of births, the birth rate, and the percentage of births to unmarried women are all important indicators of childbearing patterns and changes in family formation. The number of births to unmarried women nearly doubled during the 1980s and then the rate of increase slowed markedly from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s before the current increases began. The steep growth in the number of births during the 1980s and early 1990s was fueled mainly by the increase in the birth rate for unmarried women. The rate rose nearly 50 percent from 1980 (29.4 per 1,000) to the mid-1990s (43.8 per 1,000 in 1996)

Correlation(Bastard childbirth & Cocaine use) = High
Also childbirth out of wedlock doesn't mean men have a different tendancy to F#^) and run anymore than it implies a changing tendancy for women to give it up without a ring...
Oh and Gobbler, way to be an asshole and bring real figures into our discussion.
The Railroad Retirement System is just a special version of Social Security for railroad workers. RR employees just paid their tax to a different gang within the same organization.
So your granny was just as much of a welfare moocher as Joe Strummer's was.
There's a lot more people dependent on the federal feeding system than anyone wants to admit.
You're gonna need to provide a link to something that says all Railroad pensions provided to the wives of railroad workers whose husbands worked from 1899-1839* were really "just a special version of Social Security for railroad workers"
Good luck with that.
My grandfather was born in 1880 and my grandmother in 1896.
Government Railroad retirement was created in acts passed in 1934, 1935 and 1937. It was created as a separate system from SS because the railroad industry already had a pension system. SS didn't give credit for pre-1937 work, but the RR retirement system did.

I'm assuming your grandfather worked from 1899-1939, not 1899-1839. That would be amazing, especially for someone born in 1880. Your grandma got government checks. Deal with it.
Silly logical people. When I promised I wouldn't raise taxes on the middle class, you falsely concluded that I was promising not to raise taxes on the middle class. That was wrong. I never promised such a thing.
And when I criticized people who labeled me as a "tax and spend quasi socialist", I was actually agreeing with them, I was just criticizing their view on taxing and spending.
If it was up to me, I'd raise the taxes on anyone making more than $50,000, and use the money to employ people to dig up dirt and bury it back in to stimulate the economy.
It's so hard to be a libertarian and love The Clash sometimes...especially with wankers like you out there.
Who is Joe Strummer?
Try google
Dick -- think about it.
A great musician who has passed away.
He said, "under my plan" no one will see any tax increases.
Sort of like when the innkeeper says to Clouseau: "That's not my dog."
"I don't see anyone running away from Norway or Sweden or Denmark to come to America"
Thats because they're all in porn movies f*cking beautiful blondes ALL DAY LONG (and long does not refer to any copulatory appendages) Let me f#ck beautiful blondes all day long and than you can raise my taxes
Nearly every word that comes out of his cunt-hole of a mouth is a lie.
Fuck ObamaFAIL.
Don't feed the troll dickhead.
