Reason's Pete Bagge Gets Fox Pilot Deal
Big congratulations to our esteemed and excellent cartoonist Peter Bagge. One of his publishers, Fantagraphics Books, announces that Fox has ordered a pilot made of a cartoon based on Pete's "The Bradleys" comics and characters.
And be sure to read Fantagraphics new collection of Pete's Reason comics, Everyone is Stupid Except for Me.

You know, there is a little bit of hippie in all of us.
Congrats, Peter. I expect thousands of libertarian dog whistles per episode.

How about if you guys throw that in with a three year subscription? Mine is now expired and I was waiting to see if you would have a book deal. Pretty please?

So this whole time Peter Bagge was just a stage name for Seth MacFarlane? No wonder I had this strange urge to change the channel every time I read his comics.
Doodle-whore for the Reich-wing war machine etc.!
They should have done this 15 years ago.
Everybody do the stinky!
Wingnut welfare.
P.S. In case anyone replies to this, their responses will almost assuredly be ad homs, thereby conceding my points and showing the childish, anti-intellectual nature of libertarians. Dozens of comments here have shown that the phrase "fascist libertarian" isn't an oxymoron.
Shut your gorilla mask, lonehacko.
Don't feed this troll.
This one's like a really bad fungus; even if you stop feeding it and put it in the dark, you can still smell it.
Gratz to Bagge.

Not just yet - since I'm notoriously hard to shop for, this gem is going on my Christmas list.
Next thing you know, Matt Welch will be a guest on PBS.
I'm not a huge Bagge fan, but his worst stuff can't help but be better than American Dad or The Cleveland Show.
I saw the first episode of The Cleveland Show. Just awful. Why is it that every show Fox puts on after The Simpsons is terrible?
It just feels that way 'cause the The Simpson's is so good.
Er, 'The Simpsons'... anyhoo. And I was one of the commenters begging for the preview button back.
Except Futurama, which Fox treated worse than a pathetic starving mutt your neighbor keeps tied up out back.
...and the real kick in the groin is that they canceled King of the Hill for that PoS.
Wow, Fox! That's like the pinacle of right-wing moonbattery!
Edward, you're losing coherence, which is no small feat since you've never really had any.
I saw Bagge at Dragon*Con many years ago (maybe in 2001 or so?) and there was talk of a similar TV deal with even back then. At the time, he said "I'll believe it when it happens."
Chroma---this is the step when the "development deal" (which is often a road to nowhere) turns into something sort of real---an actual pilot. Whether that ends up in a show on the air, that's still a step or two away.
OH COME ON! None of you guys are going to reply to my question? I've been subscribing for eight years! COME ON!
Please?
Is it a cartoon about nothing?
Because after all, Fox doesn't already have any animated shows about dysfunctional family dynamic.
Yo Pete, 'Studs Kirby' would work better.
Peter,
Make friends with Seth McFarlane if you want to be on for more than 3 episodes, no matter how awesome your show is.
Hope ya succeed!
Bagge's "Brian Wilson's Dad" shorts that were posted here about 6 weeks ago were co-written by Dana Gould, who worked for the Simpsons. Since I don't believe that Bagge has much experience with TV (his bigger fans or co-writers correct me if I'm wrong), I'd expect Gould or someone like him to appear as the showrunner (executive producer). Kind of like the James L. Brooks figure to Bagge's "Groening".
That was maybe true up until about season 14. The bar isn't so high anymore. I was impressed that the last episode I caught actually had a coherent story line, instead of random events and "wackiness", I don't know that they'll continue.
I remember (in 2002) turning on Fox @ 7 on Sunday, only to see they were still showing the NFL post game shows. Then, to top it off, they'd start Futurama half-way through the show, I guess so they could spoil the ending for you. It was obvious they were looking for a way to wreck the show. I stopped watching football on Fox because of that until 2005 or so.
While I personally thought KotH had been played out, I can't but believe it's still better than TCS will be. Remember, these are the same cretins who canceled Arrested Development for 'Til Death. They killed a groundbreaking, funny, unique show to make room for standard hack formula pap that would work great following up King of Queens.
