Ain't That a Shame
Pat Boone, "descendant of the legendary pioneer Daniel Boone, top-selling recording artist, star of his own
hit TV series, movie star, Broadway headliner, and best-selling author," says America should be be on alert, because the hate-fueled violence we saw in Mumbai last month could happen here. And not necessarily just from militant Islamists, but also from . . . the queers.
Have you not seen the awful similarity between what happened in Mumbai and what's happening right now in our cities?
Oh, I know the homosexual "rights" demonstrations haven't reached the same level of violence, but I'm referring to the anger, the vehemence, the total disregard for law and order and the supposed rights of their fellow citizens. I'm referring to the intolerance, the hate seething in the words, faces and actions of those who didn't get their way in a democratic election, and who proclaim loudly that they will get their way, no matter what the electorate wants!
Hate is hate, no matter where it erupts. And hate, unbridled, will eventually and inevitably boil into violence.
[…]
What troubles me so deeply, and should trouble all thinking Americans, is that there is a real, unbroken line between the jihadist savagery in Mumbai and the hedonistic, irresponsible, blindly selfish goals and tactics of our homegrown sexual jihadists. Hate is hate, no matter where it erupts. And by its very nature, if it's not held in check, it will escalate into acts vile, violent and destructive.
I suppose that would explain all the recent news stories about roving gangs of homosexuals beating straight people to death because of their sexual preference.

It'll be easy to spot the gay terrorists. One will be disguised like a cop, another as a construction worker, another as an Indian chief . . .
This is great coming from Pat "The Original 'Dick In a Box' Guy"* Boone.
Pretty good name for a band, if you ask me...
* link is NSFW. also not safe for non-blind people. You've been warned.
He very violently removed my boot from his neck.
He was all, like, pushing and grabbing at my foot. Violently.
When I think "hedonism" I think Taliban.
ps I always thought Pat Boone was gay.
I'm guessing he was walking aside a gay pride parade one day, and someone called him a name [shudder...]
It'll be easy to spot the gay terrorists. One will be disguised like a cop, another as a construction worker, another as an Indian chief . . .
Well we did barely survive their last assault in the 70's. I mean you couldn't even say you were joining the Navy with a straight face back then. Dark days indeed.
Hey, Pat... good thing anti-gay people are in no way motivated by hate. Their motives are as pure as the driven snow.
Randy-
Stick to exposing the horrors of the drug war. This piece is far more Much Ado About Nothing than the article concerning Obama's insincere, contradictory response to Blojobovich.
Citing recent newspaper stories in which the cops alleged that a "hate" crime took place? What are you going to do next, provide links to the ADL?
He very violently removed my boot from his neck.
I suspect militant Muslims could say pretty much the same thing about their terrorism - they are trying to free themselves from an ungodly (and therefore illegitimate and oppressive) regime.
Randy- focus on the scum who support the enactment and expansion of hate sppech and hate crime laws.
I suspect militant Muslims could say pretty much the same thing about their terrorism
I suspect it would be a lot less convincing coming from someone who had actually, you know, committed an act of violence. And wasn't actually being persecuted.
This from a guy who covered and profited from Little Richard's Tutti Frutti?
Irony has a new spokesperson.
I think it's time to put Pat in a home. It can't be long before he's going to be defendant on gay nurses to wipe his ass for him.
Citing recent newspaper stories in which the cops alleged that a "hate" crime took place? What are you going to do next, provide links to the ADL?
Gay-bashing? What gay-bashing? It's all made up by the you-know-whos.
who is Randy?
"Hate is hate, no matter where it erupts."
Hey, who's doing the erupting here, Pat?
who is Randy?
John Galt's much less successful brother.
"There never were any "rights" granted or designated to those who dissented with the will of the majority"
Err, what about the ones enumerated in the BoR? Or, for that matter, what about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?
Identity-politicized gays are rather intolerant.
who is Randy?
Sicko!
It doesn't matter what "Randy" Balko or other reason writers and readers think of "hate crimes." The point is that in real life, there are many documented crimes against gay people that are committed because the are gay. Gay people are not going around beating and murdering straight people for being straight. Pat Boone's beliefs are hateful, delusional, and many other things. This should be pretty obvious.
The Drug War harms more people, but that is no reason to "stick to the Drug War" and not cover other crimes of Culture Warriors.
LM,
He isn't saying that hate crimes should be specifically worse because of the "hate" but rather questioning the assumption that its' gays who commit crimes motivated by hate.
There's nothing unlibertarian in questioning collectivist nonsense.
This from a guy who covered and profited from Little Richard's Tutti Frutti?
Irony has a new spokesperson.
I suggest that the next protests against proposition 8 be filled with gays dressing up as Pat Boone and doing bad renditions of Tutti Frutti. They should also snap their fingers while they sing it. It would be glorious.
Supporters of same-sex marriage displayed their love and tolerance when they find out that black voters overwhelmingly supporter Prop8.
Some commenters on the Dan Savage blog here:
"My friend in NC put it best: anyone who votes for Prop 8 is a nonperson. I should bloody well think that goes double for anyone who didn't have the right to vote 80 years ago."
"Sure, the Mormons funded the campaign. But you can't get around the fact that the demographic force that carried Prop 8 were Black voters.
"If you are going to work to marginalize the influence of a religion on public policy, perhaps you should look at Black churches as well as the LDS."
"All the blacks think they can be tops now."
"yes, having one minority politically reject another minority, especially when the latter worked so hard for the former, is a difficult pill to swallow."
"Of course black folk broke heavily against gay marriage: the neighborhood is hardly a bastion of progressivism. It's a place where the word punk is still about the worst thing you can be called. You have to make a grass roots effort in the community to reverse this trend, and I am unaware of any effort to do so."
"I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who felt (at least somewhat) guilty about my initially racist thoughts this morning upon reading the CA exit polling information. I literally uttered words in my private office that I never would normally say."
"So if we didn't let them vote it would have failed. If they are comfortable voting down our rights, maybe we should call for a couple of votes on their rights..."
"That 70% of one group could vote that way while other groups were nowhere near as bigoted is putrid and disgusting, especially when the bigoted goup has a history of bigotry directed against them."
"Would you like me to draw you a Venn diagram? The reason that most Blacks voted Yes is because they are religious and they are religious at a much higher rate than other races."
"I think yesterday I became just a little bit racist against black people. On Monday, I was color blind.
"Actions have consequences."
"This is an education problem. The less educated a segment of the population, the more homophobic. And like any other social ill related to education level, the effect on blacks is more pronounced. You want less black homophobes? Educate more blacks."
"It's the Christians, really. I've never understood how African-Americans could embrace the church of their oppressors, but many have, and they were told they were doing Jesus' will.
"I reported a local church to the IRS because they had 'Yes on 8' signs on their building. I bet nothing comes of it, but I let the church know that I was reporting their illegal activity."
A gay-marriage supporter deplores the racism of her fellow gay-libbers here: ". . . I'd finally read one hateful racist fingerpoint from a white gay person too many here and elsewhere on the internet . . . some of the worst anti-Black offenders here on this site since Tuesday . . . I was at a conference today in San Francisco and heard from more than one of my white gay and lesbian colleagues that they had received e-mails with some rather disburbing -- and racist -- rhetoric on this issue yesterday from other members of the local gay community . . . white gay persons who have engaged in hateful, racist rhetoric and scapegoating here at DailyKOS . . ."
Some commenters...
Ah.
"I'm referring to the intolerance, the hate seething in the words, faces and actions of those who didn't get their way in a democratic election, and who proclaim loudly that they will get their way, no matter what the electorate wants! "
That's incorrect how?
Taking shots at Pat Boone is for the weak, since it's Pat friggin Boone. What he says about the Prop 8 lynch mobs is correct.
My reading comprehension my be a little weak, Max, but I don't see much intolerance in what you've quoted.
MM, some of those are retarded (and when are internet comments not?), but some don't seem even remotely offensive.
If you replaced black with Jew or Irish, I wouldn't be offended.
John C. Jackson and Lib Dem-
You are kidding, right? Gays do not committ crimes motivated by hate? The assumption that it is only gays who are the subject of "hate" speech or crimes is non-sense. You guys are operating under the erroneous assumption that gays do not perpetrate violence against religious opponents to gay marriage.
There is nothing wrong with questioning collectivist non-sense, libertarian democrat-like the rationale for hate speech, hate laws and the individuals and organizations that support them. Part of that rationale is the assumption that it is only gays who are on the receiving end of hate speech and hate crimes. That rationale is collectivist clap trap.
[voice-over]
We've secretly replaced libertarian democrat's Black with an Irish. Let's see if he notices the difference...
"Jump Around!"
"Oh, God! Make House of Pain stop! Please! They suck so much ass!"
MM -
It doesn't look much like scapegoating to me. It looks like those commenters are upset at the exact individuals who voted for Prop 8. Is it wrong to evaluate the demographic vote? No. Why don't you just call the exit polling places racist for reporting data that can be used to negatively categorize a certain historically oppresed demographic in a negative light... that doesn't make any sense either.
libertymike,
The four links to stories about violent hate crimes committed against gay people - which you dismissed by writing "Citing recent newspaper stories in which the cops alleged that a "hate" crime took place? What are you going to do next, provide links to the ADL?" - are four more than you've provided to back up your statement "You guys are operating under the erroneous assumption that gays do not perpetrate violence against religious opponents to gay marriage."
I don't know, but I bet that Pat Boone is all for the drug war-that is something to address. His observations of the reality that certain proponents of Prop.8 commited violence and threatened to committ more is not newsworthy.
SugarFree, you made me literally laugh out loud.
I don't think "hate" crimes should be a special sort of crime, just a description of motive, so questioning the basis of additional prosecution is fine by me.
On the other hand, the notion that there are more gay on anti-gay violent crimes than the reverse is laughable. Maybe someday.
libdem,
I was going with "Jew" initially, but who wouldn't want the Beastie Boys to join them for breakfast?

The first two links dont work.

3. Non-threatening grafitti.
Let's compare this to the stories about people being beaten provided by Radley, shall we?
libertarian democrat-
Query the source of the "notion that there are more gay on anti-gay violent crimes than the reverse"? My point is that one looks a little foolish in operating from the premise that gay people do not engage in hate crimes and hate speech.
Joe-
Please. If you go to Mormonsdidnotstealyourrights.com you will find links to several stories concerning gay hate crimes or suspected gay hate crimes. For example, take the October incident in Modesto, California. There, Jose Nunez, 37, was brutally assaulted by a Prop 8 opponent. Mr. Nunex was distributing information in support of the ballot measure.
Joe-
Are you lazy? No. Just blinded by your ignorance and failure to ackowledge that there are some facts that conflict with your worldview.
"Have you not seen the awful similarity between what happened in Mumbai and what's happening right now in our cities?"
Well if The Gays decide to take their fabulous! jihad to the next level and maybe try and smuggle a nuclear device into a US city, I think we can all agree on where they might decide to "hide" these devices.
"homegrown sexual jihadists"
Just a hysterical phrase. Now should we expect to see articles coming out of the(pun intended) Weekly Standard advocating the US to invade some country so we can fight the sexual jihadists over there, rather than fight the sexual jihadists over here?
And how what enhanced interogation techniques for sexual jihadists would actually be welcome by the captives?
Actually, libertymike, rather than "lazy" or even "blinded by my ignorance," what I am is "suckering you into a demonstration of hypocrisy."
So, you've found a story where the police say that someone was "brutally assaulted" by an opponent of Proposition 8? Ahem, Citing recent newspaper stories in which the cops alleged that a "hate" crime took place? What are you going to do next, provide links to the ADL?
I gotta admit, I've never before witness anyone attempt to make TEH GAY scary in this way. Points for originality, I guess.
GODDAMMIT I MADE A SMALL ERROR IN A BLOG POST BARGLE BARGLE SNARF.
Goddamn my type-A personality.
Gay people certainly do, on occasion, commit hateful acts. But they are not in a position to deny rights to anyone. So who cares? If they commit a crime, charge them with a crime. If not, they can say whatever they want and call Pat Boone all the nasty names they want.
This is part of a really gross campaign that is reversing the term hate to describe protest and even grosser use of jihad in the same vein. I had more thoughts on this, but it got long so I posted them here.
A small number of the types of people who get really passionate about a cause sometimes do inappropriate things up to and including violent acts.
These acts are rare and the people who commit them are likely mentally unbalanced. They also seem to be randomly distributed across all political and/or social factions.
There may be other reasons why a straight guy would attack a gay guy but the most likely explanation is that the victim is being attacked for being gay.
On the other hand if a gay guy attacks a straight guy the most likely explanation is that the gay guy got called "a dirty fucking faggot" one time to many and lost it. Inappropriate perhaps but kind of understandable I'd say.
Here's the deal - unlike Muslims, or say blacks in the US a few decades ago - the fags aren't going to be able to sustain enough anger to fuel any sort of sustained violence or even non-violent protests because, you know, they aren't actually being, well, oppressed.
Are they still mad? Or have they retreated to their comfortable homes in thier nice neighborhoods, driving thier Prius to work at their job paying low six figures? It's hard to sustain anger when you're living a pretty cushy life...
Just to be clear - I'm not saying that the West is oppressing the muslims. I'm just saying that they are poor, uneducated, and miserable and thus, are primed for envy and anger...
"The fags aren't being oppressed."
Kay.
Jose, you left out some stereotypes there.
Here's a YouTube video of Pat Boone, a gay man himself, losing his filthy toup?e live on the air.
Hey Jose,
So what's your agenda here? Perhaps you're upset because a few fags are pulling down the sixes while you're loitering at the Homo Depot with the rest of the wetback day "laborers"...
My problem with the really stupid all-purpose designation "hate" is that it leaves to nonsense like this.
Hey Pat, news flash: sometimes hate is appropriate.
Hell, sometimes violence is appropriate. Proposition 8's victory is not one of those times, but they exist.
I would hope that a good number of slaves "hated" their masters in 1859. Oh, those haters!
When one hates the unjust, one serves the good. If the unjust are unjust enough, they deserve to be the target of violence, and when one undertakes violence against them, one serves the good.
So if homosexuals "hate" you because they believe that you are denying them either liberty or equality, we can't just say, "Hate is wrong so those homosexuals are bad folks." We have to actually evauluate their claim to being denied liberty or equality - because if it's valid, they should hate you.
I cringe when I read this "libertymike". His comments make advocates of liberty look moronic. But I suspect he is not an advocate of liberty at all.
He gets even more silly when he argues that gay "committ (sic) crimes motivated by hate" but then doesn't cite any evidence that this is problem. He says gays "perpetrate violence" against religious nut-jobs -- can he tell us of three cases of "violence" by gays. My guess is that he will redefine violence to non-violent protests or complaints. But when did gays beat a Christian violently and tie him to a fence in the dead of winter and leave him to die?
And remember, to prove his case, he needs to show that a violent attack took place and that the person who did was gay and motivated by "hate". Citing incidents where we don't know who was guilty of a crime is not proof since we DON'T KNOW WHO DID IT. And non-violent incidents can't be used as proof of violence. What Boone and others are screaming about is non-violent protests.
Mad Max is truly mad, in the sense of insanity. I'm not sure that anonymous comments from a blog, which anyone could have written, qualifies as evidence of any widespread viewpoint. Nor do I think that pointing out bigotry in a community that has been targeted by bigots in the past is necessarily a sign of intolerance. The black community does tend to be bigoted about gays. Why is it bigoted to say that?
How weird is it that my blog is linked by reason's and Pat Boone's blogs today?
(To be fair, Mr. Conservative didn't link me on purpose; it was a auto feature from WordPress.)
The proper libertarian response:
Aaaargh! It's impossible for gays to hate! Gays can do no wrong! Throwing rocks at cars doesn't mean anything! And if if it did the cars probably deserved it! Gays cannot hate! You're a filthy homophobe! I bet you're even secretly gay! All people who hate gays are secretly gay! You're ghey and listen to Pat Boone!

"My reading comprehension my be a little weak, Max, but I don't see much intolerance in what you've quoted."
So it's not in the least intolerant
-To stay that opponents of Prop. 8, especially black voters, are "nonperson[s]",
-To suggest there be vote on black people's rights
-To say that you used to be colorblind but aren't any more, and that the "actions" of black people in voting for Prop 8 "have consequences"?
-To propose reporting anti-Prop 8 churches [apparently including black churches] to the IRS? Really? Libertarians don't think it's intolerant to try and get the Internal Revenue Service to retaliate against people with the wrong politics?
"MM, some of those are retarded (and when are internet comments not?), but some don't seem even remotely offensive."
I suppose that depends on whether you're black or not.
"If you replaced black with Jew or Irish, I wouldn't be offended."
OK, let's try that:
"anyone who votes for Prop 8 is a nonperson. I should bloody well think that goes double for Jews [or Irish]."
"Sure, the Mormons funded the campaign. But you can't get around the fact that the demographic force that carried Prop 8 were Jews [or Irish].
"If you are going to work to marginalize the influence of a religion on public policy, perhaps you should look at Jewish synagogues [or Irish churches] as well as the LDS."
"All the Jews [or Irish] think they can be tops now."
"yes, having one minority politically reject another minority, especially when the latter worked so hard for the former, is a difficult pill to swallow." The Jews and Irish are such ingrates!
"Of course Jews broke heavily against gay marriage: Jewish neighborhoods are hardly a bastion of progressivism. It's a place where the phrase 'goy pansy' is still about the worst thing you can be called. You have to make a grass roots effort in the community to reverse this trend, and I am unaware of any effort to do so."
"I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who felt (at least somewhat) guilty about my initially anti-Semitic [or anti-Irish] thoughts this morning upon reading the CA exit polling information. I literally uttered words in my private office that I never would normally say."
"So if we didn't let Jews [or Irish] vote it would have failed. If they are comfortable voting down our rights, maybe we should call for a couple of votes on their rights..."

"Would you like me to draw you a Venn diagram? The reason that most Jews [or Irish] voted Yes is because they are religious and they are religious at a much higher rate than other races."
"I think yesterday I became just a little bit anti-Semitic against Jews [or "racist against the Irish"]. On Monday, I was color blind.
"Actions have consequences."
"This is an education problem. The less educated a segment of the population, the more homophobic. And like any other social ill related to education level, the effect on blacks is more pronounced. You want less Jewish [or Irish] homophobes? Educate more Jews [or Irish]."
"It's the Jews [or "Catholics"], really. I've never understood how Jews [or "Irish"] could embrace the church of their oppressors, but many have, and they were told they were doing Moses' [or Jesus'] will.
"I reported a local synagogue [or "Irish Catholic Church"] to the IRS because they had 'Yes on 8' signs on their building. I bet nothing comes of it, but I let the church know that I was reporting their illegal activity."
". . . Yeah, it sounds totally innocuous when you replace blacks with Jews and Irish.
"The black community does tend to be bigoted about gays. Why is it bigoted to say that?"
The black community, if we go by the results of Prop 8, seems to think that the law should affirm that marriage is the union of one (1) man and one (1) woman. What bigotry! What intolerance! It's just like those state troopers at the Edmund Pettus bridge!
So a few gay activists lose their tempers in the presence of some people telling them what dirty fucking fags they are and it's hate.
But a bunch of straight guys assaulting gays walking down the street minding their own business...why...that's just showing those dirty fucking fags what's right and godly.
For God's sake get some fucking perspective and above all learn to mind your own fucking business.
Bigotry and intolerance doesn't have to rise to the level of the state troopers at the Edmund Pettus bridge to be worthy of condemnation.
