Bill Cunningham Is Mad as Hell at John McCain, and He's Not Gonna Take It Anymore
Of late, John McCain's presidential nod has had more flaps than grandma's right tricep. The most recent was Cunninghamgate, based around a conservative Cincinnati radio show host who fired up a McNasty rally by referring to Barack Obama by his Allah-given name, Barack Hussein Obama, thus linking the Illinois Democrat to, you know, the former leader of Iraq, the odd prince of Jordan, and Muslims everywhere.
McCain apologized for his opening act's opening act multiple times, thus earning the ire of Cunningham, a local institution in Southwest Ohio, who told the Cincy Enquirer:
"Why is he attacking me and not Obama or Hillary? He ought to attack Democrats and quit attacking conservatives like me."
Cunningham said he has no plans to meet McCain again. "I've had it up to here with John McCain. He's off the list. I'm joining Ann Coulter in supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton."
Indeed, Cunningham likened McCain (unintentionally, I'm sure) to Girls Gone Wild felon Joe Francis: "John McCain threw me under the bus, under the Straight Talk Express. I got thrown under the bus."
Strangely, Cunningham's defense of using Obama's full name is, well, lame:
The purpose of using Obama's full name—Barack Hussein Obama—"is to identify that person. I meant no offense by it," Cunningham said. Those who oppose his use of Obama's middle name are those who should be criticized, Cunningham added.
What kind of world are we living in where straight-talking conservatives of all stripes are pussyfooting around with saying what they mean and meaning what they say?

I'm joining Ann Coulter in supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton.
I'm starting to wonder if The Boondocks is a documentary.
SPOILERS IN MY LINK ABOVE
Sorry...
A Sista Soulja-ish moment for McCain.
Cunningham is a d$ck.
Today's Lesson: What to Do When You're Busted for Using Racist Innuendo.
Step One: Deny Deny Deny. "What? Oh, heavens no! I just wanted to identify him clearly, so people wouldn't think I was talking about some other famous person named Barack Obama."
Step Two: Appeal to Partisanship. This is useful, and racist innuendo is almost always used for partisan purposes in the first place. "Hey, look over there! A Democrat! Criticize him, not me."
Step Three: The Switcheroo, ie, You're a racist for noticing my racism. What kind of a person could possibly think there could be any racist connotation behind repeatedly reminding people of someone's Arab-derived middle name while accusing him of being a sleeper-cell terrorist? A racist, that's who. (Note: do not expect to win this argument. Nobody is that stupid. But that's not the point.)
Step Four: Take your ball and go home.
Step 5: Profit?
Ah, yes, Step Five: Repeat racist innuendo on a cruise ship chartered by National Review magazine. Collect check.
Talk radio has always appealed to individuals with the intelligence and self-respect of an adolescent. Some of these radio "stars" have a sizeable following and the rest of us therefore feel obliged to give them more credit and attention than they deserve. It's like having as a speaker (or cable news guest) the headmaster of a school for retards.
It's an OBAMA Nation!
If I don't vote for OBAMA... i'm a racist.
If I don't vote for BILLARY... i'm a sexist.
Fine.
But joe, it's just that there are people named Barack Obama everywhere! I don't know about you, but we're up to our elbows in SC in people named "Barack Obama." If Cunningham hadn't thrown that Hussein in there I'd never be able to identify this "Barack Obama" fellow.
Seriously, though, it seems to be some sort of a meme with the babbleocracy at the moment. Every time I hear his name now it's got the "Hussein" added in a scary voice.
This promises to be the dumbest election in many years. I can't tell, is that good?
What makes his middle name a racial slur? It's PC gone mad when saying the candidates name is now considered hate speech. Get over yourselves please.
I can't tell, is that good?
We can only hope one of these douche-a-la-douches will be blatant enough to provoke a backlash.
What's funny is that if McCain had not apologized, nobody would have heard about this. Bill Cunningham would still be happily localized in Southern Ohio and I wouldn't have to hear him on every news station ad nauseam. God forbid this actually propels this guy into a national slot.
What makes his middle name a racial slur?
It's not.
However, constantly repeating his middle name as part of an effort to paint him as a scary Muslim is a racist strategy.
The preceding message is brought to you by the National Association of People Who Tell You Things You Already Know But Pretend Not To.
Stretch,
McCain didn't apologize for the woman who called Hillary a bitch, and that made the national nooz.
People don't like this racist shit. That's why even those who engage in it have to play dumb - because it's that toxic.
McCain didn't apologize for the woman who called Hillary a bitch, and that made the national nooz.
Why apologize? The truth hurts sometimes.
an effort to paint him as a scary Muslim...
Did Mr.Cunningham accuse Mr.Obama of being a Muslim, scary or otherwise? Or is this all inference, as in, you "know what he meant"? And even if he did, "muslim" is not a race as far as i can tell, is it? So how is it racist?
Shane, I'd take you at your word, but that would be an insult to your intelligence. And unlike you, I don't wish to insult people's intelligence.
This is a pretty bright crowd here. You're not fooling anyone.
What about this shirt that says "Die, Bart, Die?"
No, that's German for "The, Bart, The."
Is Muslim a race, yes or no? As far as i can tell, it's a religion, even if i were to insinuate that a person is a muslim, what does that have to do with race?
So, Shane, why doesn't Cunningham refer to "John Sidney McCain III?"
Is Muslim a race, yes or no? As far as i can tell, it's a religion, even if i were to insinuate that a person is a muslim, what does that have to do with race?
Step 2.5: Play the semantic game.
The interesting questions in all this - will McCain's amiablity in campaigning cost him support among the diehards? (Which is to say, the demographic that already feels he's rather feeble intestinally.) And will those notional losses be offset by the moderates and independents he doesn't lose?
OK, so now you're going from pretending not to understand the problem to trying to define it as not a problem.
Playing dumb is what someone does when they can't defend their argument.
Don't be a worm, Shane. Either stand by what you say, or don't say it.
"Hussein" a verboten racist slur. But Billary, or McGrumpy are considered funny?
Is taking note of McCain's age ageist, or an attempt by his detractors to reduce his public image.
No, I don't think that Cunningham is primarily racist. He is primarily rightist. And that makes him hate liberals. He'll use anything to demean them. One of them being the use of race.
I get emails from assholes talking about how Obama is a Muslim pretty often. What this asshat is doing is emphasizing among that Obama is a dirty jihadist, raised in dirty jihadist schools in Indonesia..or whatever bullshit they're parroting.
To a LOT of people religion is a determining factor for who they're going to vote for, and by using his middle name it reminds the people that have seen the bullshit emails or heard a talk show radio host talking about it that Obama is a dirty Muslim. If you have a problem with selecting presidents based on religion, have a field day here, but it's hard for me to think this is a directly racist attack.
I'm really enjoying the fact that none of you can answer the questions. Mr.Cunningham refered to Mr.Obama by his full name. He made no mention of race or religion, even if he did make a suggestion about Mr.Obama's religion, what does that have to do with race? If it has nothing to do with race how is it racist? Nothing to do with semantics, if you're going to accuse someone of racism it should be fairly easy for you to back it up with racist comments or actions made by that person.
And since Americans, Arabs, Persians, and many other races name their children Hussein, I don't think it has much to do with race. More to do with religion. Muslims name their children Hussein. But don't worry Cunningham. Many of reason's editors are as bigoted as you are.
You're going to pull a hammy if you keep straining like that, Shane.
Take it Red State. You're not fooling anyone here.
Shane,
People tend to forget context when discussing what a person said or didn't say.
Muslim is not a race to me or (I assume) you, but to Cunningham's target audience, Muslim=Arab=BrownPeople=Bad.
Please stop being ignorant for the sake of being ignorant. Thanks.
Forget "Hussein." I think we should shun the guy for using the phrase "under the bus," already the most tired clich? of 2008.
"Hussein" a verboten racist slur. But Billary, or McGrumpy are considered funny?
Hussein is not an indicator of behavior or manner, but of national origin and culture.
Billary is an indication of Hillary's action of marrying Bill, McGrumpy is an indicator of McCain's general demeanor.
Race, origin, culture, etc. are involuntary. Behavior is voluntary.
Context people.
I, for one, am not claiming "racism" per se; this is more of a blatant attempt to associate Obama with suicide bombers and terrorists who happen to have Arabian names.
but to Cunningham's target audience, Muslim=Arab=BrownPeople=Bad.
Ah, so what he said doesn't matter, it's your subjective judgement that he implied this and that which equals that and equals this, bingo you're a racist for saying his name. BS. I'm not the one squirming simply because you can't make your arguement without telepathy.
TakTix,
For many reason-ers, Religious people=Idiots=Bad.
How is that any better?
Also, what Taktix? just said.
Come on Shane, you know the rules:
1. joe makes pronouncement
2. it is good
3. any deviation on your part from His pronouncement gets you called a fuckwit or a retard or whatever toxic comment he feels like spewing on that day
4. Parsing the actual language used is unacceptable nitpicking, unless he's doing it to you, in which case, you're the idiot because you can't see the beautiful layers of subtlety with your infidel mind.
Also, bonus points for jj @ 9:24 for adding something substantive to the party.
Forget "Hussein." I think we should shun the guy for using the phrase "under the bus," already the most tired clich? of 2008.
QTMFT!
Shane, are you going to answer my question? Why doesn't Cunningham refer to John McCain as "John Sidney McCain?"
Ah, so what he said doesn't matter, it's your subjective judgement that he implied this and that which equals that and equals this, bingo you're a racist for saying his name. BS. I'm not the one squirming simply because you can't make your arguement without telepathy.
What he said matters just as much as who he said it to.
For the third fucking time, it's called context!!!
You just exonerated everyone Sherlock Holmes put in jail Shane, nice fucking job.
Well, Legate, I guess you missed, you know, all the other posters.
I'm not the one squirming simply because you can't make your arguement without telepathy.
If you don't pretend not to know why Cunningham kept repeating Obama's middle name, that means YOU'RE the racist. Because that's totally how it works.
THANK GOD
WHAT REPUBLICANS NEED TO REMEMBER IT THAT
RONALD REGAN IS DEAD., SO TO IS THAT WING OF
THE PARTY HE, NOR THE CONSERVITIVE PART OF
THE PARTI WILL EVER BE BACK.
THE DEATH OF TALK RADIO WILL SOON FOLLOW.
And what was the fucking context? Was it racist? And i don't care what he calls john fucking mccain. What i want to know is when calling a candidate by his full name in whatever fucking context denoted racism. fucking PC maniacs it's his fucking name there is no racism or bigotry involved, when he says something bigoted or racist let me know, but you calling it such, or stating that you know what he meant" doesn't count for shit. And where was fucking context regardfing George fucking allen, i didn't hear anyone talking about context on the left, did you?
And i didnt call anyone a racist joe, i don't play those games.
For many reason-ers, Religious people=Idiots=Bad.
How is that any better?
People choose to (or not to) follow a religion. People do not choose what race they are when they are born and what name they are given.
Now granted, one can change their name, but in the C O N T E X T of our society, name-changing is not as common as it used to be for disguising national origin, as well it shouldn't.
Mission Accomplished.
Piss off, Shane. Take it somewhere with a lower median IQ, maybe you won't get pwned so badly you lose your temper.
Jim Bob, I'll try to answer your question to Shane - Because everyone there knew John McCain, and Cunningham wanted everyone to be sure he was speaking about the correct....
oh hell, I can't even finish that silly shit.
fucking mindless droids is what you people are.
Shane,
Please refer to yesterday's thread where you were arguing the "George Felix Allen" thing. I'd find the link, but I've already wasted to much time proving your sophomoric arguments are illogical, baseless, and seem to come from the mind of a child. A retarded child.
Shane,
I can think of three talk-show hosts of the top of my head who are wearing the "barack HUSSEIN obama" meme out right now--Savage, Levitt, and Gallagher. Cunningham would make a fourth. Total fucking racist douchebags all three. It's a simple transitive formula for their mentally challenged listeners, Hussein = something clearly ferin/middle eastern = Muslim = brown that has been pointed out on this thread. If all of these guys have ticks where they obsessively parrot middle names for everyone they talk about like rain man, you have a point. Otherwise you should really just crawl into hole at this point instead of embarrassing yourself further.
People choose to (or not to) follow a religion. People do not choose what race they are when they are born and what name they are given.
Quite right, Taktix. Sometimes people choose their religion, such as when Barack Obama joined the Methodists.
So repeatedly drawing attention to Obama's middle name isn't pointing out his religion, but his family's ethnic and relgious background. So to the extent that repeatedly reminding the audience that Obama has an Arab or Muslim name, Cunningham isn't even drawing attention to his religion, but to the non-chosen circumstances of his birth - ie, his father was from a certain ethnnic group, one that is mainly Muslim.
That is racism.
Not that anybody is actually confused about this.
All,
Don't get us wrong, this guy can say whatever racist BS he wants. In fact, it let's me know to keep the AM SCAN going.
However, we, Shane, have every right to call him whatever we want as well.
Like, I don't know, say...
A fucking racist.
This is distracting us from the real issue: american flag lapel pins.
Should be "lets", not "let's"
And not just him.
He said that to the crowed, because he knew it would be well-received.
These aren't the "fucking mindless droids" you're looking for.
joe, pistoffnick and bhh,
You bastards owe me a new keyboard! 😉
look at the elitist pile up
anxious would be alpha dogs
monkey politics
Only snobs object to drawing attention to someone's ethnic background in order to make people think less of him.
Damn elitists!
Cunningham used to be moderately entertaining at times. (I think Nick the Jacket, who used to inhabit these parts, could confirm that.) Now he's just a sad parody of himself. I suppose the same can be said of Limbaugh. What happens to these guys?
Although I too find Shane's attempted obfuscation quite humorous, I do think it is legitimately possible to be anti-Muslim without being (technically) racist. In fact, I would also agree with Shane that the transitive jump from Muslim to "Brown people" does not represent the majority of anti-Muslim sentiment.
Cunningham is still an ass.
Was that Francis reference a nod to his GGW bus running over a student in Iowa City?
If so, kudos.... If not, beautiful coincidence...
Fuck, didn't we have this thread yesterday?
And isn't the point that it's definitely rude when you call someone knowingly by a name or names they don't normally go by? And doing it repeatedly is obviously trying to make some sort of (not so innocent) point?
Or is Cunningham Obama's mama, scolding him for playing ball in the house and knocking over a nice lamp? ("BARACK HUSSIEN OBAMA, YOU GO TO YOUR ROOM RIGHT NOW!")
LET US DISCUSS THE LATIN ORIGIN OF THE WORD "IGNORAMUS."
I'm joining Ann Coulter in supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton.
So when he says "hillary rodham clinton", what is it that he's really saying in secret code word talk?
It is pretty obvious what Cunningham was trying to do. It's exactly the same thing that the Louisiana Democratic Party tried to do by constantly referring to Bobby Jindal by his birth name "Piyush" instead of the name he's gone by since he was four. Which is similar, but certainly somewhat stronger, than the "George Felix Allen" comments, George H. W. Bush referring to Pete du Pont by his birth name "Pierre," and other attempts to play on someone's name and identify him as some sort of outsider.
Anyway, good for McCain.
MP,
One can certainly be anti-whatever religion without being racist towards the people who follow it.
But that's plainly not what's happening here. Obama is a Methodist. The only link to Islam is his racial and ethnic background, the fact that he has IIRC his grandfather's name as his middle name.
John Thacker,
I hadn't heard that LA Dems were doing that. That's inappropriate, if true.
But I always thought they brought up Allen's middle name because it sounds sort of wimpy, like "Percy" or "Leslie" as a boy's name. Was there supposed to be more to that?
joe,
As I recall it was supposed to paint him as "too French", which may be the same thing.
In my opinion they should have gone after him more on the charges that he was a retard, but whatever.
The only link to Islam is his racial and ethnic background, the fact that he has IIRC his grandfather's name as his middle name.
Sure, but aren't you still possibly being simply anti-Muslim, even if your association is simply derivative of the relationship between his ethnic background and the close association between that background and a particular religion? Your belief I believe is that one is a racist simply by making that association, and that's a strong argument. But I bet a lot of people in the anti-muslim camp don't see that association (rightly or wrongly) as racism.
Think about this...the anti-Catholic discrimination that occurred against people with Irish names (regardless of whether they were actually Catholic), was that racism or simply anti-Catholicism?
Oh, and Cunningham is still an ass.
joe,
Here's a Times-Picayune article from last year, before the election, noting the habit of LA Dems using "Piyush" in public speeches and press releases. Goes into the Obama middle name flap, Pete/Pierre du Pont, and a few others from the past.
Making fun of someone's middle name because "it sounds sort of wimpy" is still a way of making a person into "the other" based on their birth. The implied argument is that "we, and other people like us, certainly wouldn't have or give someone a name like that. It sounds foreign/rich/not from around here." In plenty of the case, people attempt to defend themselves not just with the truth, but also by saying that they're drawing a contrast between the image someone has adopted and their "real selves" or where they came from. But certainly there's something a little bit wrong with insisting that one's ancestors and the name one got at birth is more important than the name and life one has chosen for oneself, whether we're talking about Obama, Jindal, or Allen.
rude boi club, you almost had a haiku going there.
MP,
I'd say that "anti-Catholicism," such as the Harvard boys burning down the Sisters of Mercy convent, was an mixture of racism and religious bigotry, and there really isn't any point in trying to differentiate the two. If No-Knothings, for example, were engaging in "anti-Catholic" acts against people because they had Irish-sounding names, then they certainly weren't making that distinction.
John Thacker,
Thanks for the link. That's wrong for them to do that.
Making fun of someone's middle name because "it sounds sort of wimpy" is still a way of making a person into "the other" based on their birth. I disagree. My own father's middle name was Felix. It's not a flattering name, that's all, and "we" - meaning, my own grandparents, my own people - gave him that name (the bastards). I'm not seeing the "other" bit. It's more comparable to "Wow, John Kerry sure does look silly in that clean suit."
No way that's racist, it's his NAME, and the talk show guy didn't put emphasis on the middle part as far as i can tell and most of the speech was about obamas shenanigans in chicago. you lefties are going to be pulling the race card the entire political race, i knew it. that poster is right you are mindless droids.
how can it be racism, Cunningham just said Obama's full name, what's wrong with that? It's his name, how can saying his name be racist?
WOULD ANYONE LIKE TO TAKE A STAB AT THE PLURAL OF IGNORAMUS?
I'm so sorry I made fun of my opponent's ISLAMOFASCIST CONNECTIONS.
And I'm so sorry I made fun of Senator McCain's history of doing favors for lobbyists who give him money.
Oh, yeah? I'm sorry Obama's mother is a ho.
WOULD ANYONE LIKE TO TAKE A STAB AT THE PLURAL OF IGNORAMUS?
Freepers?
I'm *not* sorry McCain's mother is a ho, because she always gives me a discount.
Now I can't stand McCain either...BUT most of the criticism from the "conservatives" makes me kinda like him..a little. They are mostly criticizing him on issues where he is at least a decent human being. They don't seem to care much about the real reasons to oppose him. This is like the "McCain has a black baby" stuff. I don't see how it works on any normal people.
McCain's wife always charges full price, but it's worth it.
If the GOP keeps it up they might end up alienating the 70% or so of Americans that have a funny/embarrassing/ethnic middle name.
One of my co-workers--who has a fucking masters degree actually believes Barack Obama is a closet Muslim. So you don't have to be a complete idiot to have this swift boating work on you.
what's a freeper? I came here because i followed a link to another article, i just dont think its cool to call someone a racist when they didn't say or do anything racist. obama should be more upset over being called a hack but whatever.
I wonder how much trouble stevie and freeboy would have figuring out what a David-Duke type was up to if he kept enunciating and repeating the middle name of an opponent named John Goldberg Miller.
I'm guessing none.
Whoops, stupid joke name.
Many of you treat "racists" like my grouchy old uncle treated "niggers".
Pick a low dog and treat 'em like shit, if only to show everyone how alpha you are.
I'm not impressed.
psst, joe!
Check yer handle.
I have to give kudos to McCain for telling that guy to piss of though. I couldn't see George Bush doing that.
4 comments in a minute.
Wow. What's the record?
These are probably the same type of people who have no problem with Barack Hussein Obama attending a Black Nationalist(racist) church all these years(that gives awards to anti-semite farrakhan) and have no problem with Obama's wife writing a thesis on Black Power being needed to over throw the white oppressors, but if Mccain had been going to a White Nationalist church or his wife wrotean article about white power they would be all over it. just like the libs had to keep saing George Felix aLeen and that other guy a poster above mentioned, but no we can't call obama by is name. hypocrites using PC as a weapon as usual.
Between Hussein, the Nation of Islam, his angry wife, connections to 60s radicals, etc. and whatever other allegations, this is going to be ugly.
Cesar,
Good example. Some people give voters too much credit. You don't have to be an idiot, just an idiot on political matters. There are plenty reasonable, successful, and competent people who have absoultely no clue on politics and just pick someone they can relate to.
It depends on how much McCain can reign in the swift boaters. It seems like he doesn't want to run that kind of campaign, but other Republicans are determined to do it anyway.
Oh, PC. Your concern in touching.
But Senator Obama is running against a Republican. Of COURSE it's going to be ugly.
If he was a white Episcopalian, it would just be ugly in some other way.
Son of a bitch, how'd that happen?
It depends on how much McCain can reign in the swift boaters.
Oh you mean people who tell the truth and have yet to be disproven, can't have truth tewllers who are not afraid of the PC left, no cant have that, got to have a nice clean uneventful coronation of whomever you all choose.
Cesar,
I don't know about Bush. Let's not forget, he was the first Republican candidate in at least 30 years whose campaign had no Southern Strategy element.
I love self-refuting trolls.
The people who use Obama's name to link him to scary brown Musselmen are just as believable as the Swift Boat people, and the people who believe them are the equivalent of those who still think the Swift Boaters are credible.
Thanks, righty! You saved me no end of effort.
Joe, Bush never denounced the swift boat peopels attacks on Kerry, or Zell Miller, or people at the Republican convention wearing "purple heart bandaids".
McCain said the swiftboaters were "dishonest, and dishonerable". Theres a big difference, isn't there?
you talk a lot but there's no substance. Kerry had to "rethink" his faulty memory when confronted with evidence, the swift boat veterns were never proven to be wrong, they were demonized for daring to speak up in the first place. And i don't see you responding to Obama's racist ties...
I agree, Cesar, he didn't. But there was no racial element to the Swift Boat attacks.
Bush, on the other hand, not only squashed the Southern Strategy, but he has also denounced prejudice against Muslims - even to the poing of being alienating some of his natural allies.
but that's just how the left works isnt it? emotionalism and unfounded accusations while their own get a free pass. homophobe, sexist, racist... throw em around and one of em is bound to stick is it?
No, Right, I'm not responding to your "facts."
I'm mocking them. I'm mocking you. I'm not gong to treat them as if they were respectable subjects for conversation.
Billy could well sink McCain in Ohio.
Maybe Rommey is warming up!
emotionalism and unfounded accusations
You mean like "Barack Hussein Obama attending a Black Nationalist(racist) church all these years(that gives awards to anti-semite farrakhan) and have no problem with Obama's wife writing a thesis on Black Power being needed to over throw the white oppressors?"
execpt those can be backed up, are you denying any of it?
It's striking to me how many [left wing/right wing] people show up here and assume it's a hot bed of [right wing/left wing], partisan [wingnuts/libruls].
I like the little "(racist)" after "Black Nationalist."
You know, just in case people didn't respond emotionally enough to "Black Nationalist."
It's like political parties in India.
No, sir, this is the headquarters of the Black Nationalist (Not Racist) party. You want the Black Nationalist (Racist) party; they're four blocks down and two blocks over.
I deny every ounce of scary, racist implications you are trying to impose on the actual facts, and deny the bullshit you pass off as facts in its entirety.
You will also discover, Righty, that others of your ilk - be they communists, white supermacists, or whatnot - are also mocked and dismissed on these threads, rather than treated as if they are offering serious ideas worthy of consideration.
"If he was a white Episcopalian, it would just be ugly in some other way."
True, but the level of mainstream acceptance of the tactics would be different. There are many people who aren't going to see this as politics as usual, it will be seen to many as the lynching of a political Jackie Robinson. A lot of people who have been voting in the primary are first time voters or people who haven't followed politics in a while. I think the aftermath will be something similar to the post Rodney King envirionment of the early nineties. I really don't want to revisit that but it seems inevitable.
The only reason Bush likes Muslms, joe, is because his family (for reasons of their oil business) is close to all the oil Sultans.
My ilk? wtf? I'm nopt a racist i'm fucking black you dumbass. iand i ddislike black nationalists just as much as i dislike white nationalists. Jeremiah Wright(obama's preacher for years) is a fucking racist, his church (and all afro-centric churches) is racist. you replace the word "black" or "afro" or "african" in any of their programs or sermons with "white" or "eurocentric" and it's rightly called racism, but the left can't do it when it comes to non-white races like balck nationalism or pan-africanism or La raza and the like. my ilk are the non-racists. who are you? And please look up Mrs.Obama's princeton thesis and tell me it isn't racist.
Well, whatever the reason, Cesar, he's been pretty good on the matter - much better than we had any reason to assume on September 12. Give the devil his due.
Nor are you a communist. Why don't you take another crack at that.
Uh huh. Sure you are.
You know, one of those black people who doesn't understand, even theoretically, how variations of someone's name can be used to draw attention to their race or ethnic background.
La Raza is a group of rich, second and third generation hispanics who feel guilty about being successful.
It's threads like this that make me keep coming back for more. We only have them every few weeks to a month though, and that just doesn't seem like enough.
Shane, Righty... can you come back more frequently?
Uh huh. Sure you are. You know, one of those black people who...
... doesn't fit your stereotype? yep.
Righty-tighty-
I don't think Obama is a racist, he's mixed(like myself), can mixed race people be racist?
... doesn't fit your stereotype? yep.
Sure, Willie. Can I call you Willie? Oh, what's that? Your name is James? OK, Jimmy.
You know, that stereotype of black people as "having a passing familiarity with how language is used to covey racism."
You know. That stereotype.
You are so faking.
he's mixed(like myself)
Wow! What are the chances?!?
Lay off, just because people like to use Obama's middle name, which happens to be the Arabic name Hussein (like my middle name), doesn't mean anything.
Crap. Should have done my name this way.
Wow! What are the chances?!?
actually itthe chances are pretty good, the u.s. has quite a sizable population of mixed race individuals, personally i thinks it's the future of all mankind, maybe i'm racist in that way, i have no real respect for "race" to begin with. but sometimes i take some pride when mixed individuals are successful like halle berry or tiger woods, but not as deeply as others i have noticed. Anyways I don't think Obama or his wife or their church are racist or Cunningham, i think people are just too sensitive and are reading more into things than is actually there.
The Republican party is so full of racists that no viable Republican candidate can forcefully denounce racism and hope to keep the base on board.
""but that's just how the left works isnt it? emotionalism and unfounded accusations while their own get a free pass. homophobe, sexist, racist... throw em around and one of em is bound to stick is it?""
That's how the right works too. Karl Rove is one of the dirtiest operatives out there. The best of them alway are, yet you seem to have no problem give a pass to your side.
With regards to the swift boater, I believe some of them received citations based on the so-called lies Kerry said in his report, yet I didn't see one of them willing to call their own citation a lie. Besides if citations under a false pretense is such a big deal, you'd have to be pretty pissed that Pat Tilman received anything other than a purple heart.
""""If he was a white Episcopalian, it would just be ugly in some other way.""""
Or Morman
What if I don't say his middle name, but I just think it. Does that make me evil? Oh, crap. I just thought it again. What kind of flagellation or penance can I perform to get back to a state of grace in the eyes of the enlighted progressive church of america?
the u.s. has quite a sizable population of mixed race individuals
Yes, but the population "conservative trolls who defend race-baiting" does not.
I'm not a conservative, i think most would agree that you're the resident troll not me, and i have yet to see racism present in his remarks.
your snarks are getting boring and lack creativity anyway mr. troll.
I think Willy and Ann are great patriots sacrificing themselves for the good of all Americans. They should keep up their ranting and ravings. When they speak, another Democrat gets a vote. The party is moving to the center, they are not. The ultra right has had their chance now give McCain a chance. If they want a Democrat in the White House then they should really actively campaign for Hillary. That would be something to see. God Help us through this nutty election season. May the best man or women for America win.
Ann wants a democrat in office so she can continue complaining about them. The odds are that we are spending so much money the next president will be required to raise taxes regardless of what they pledge. That's what happened to Bush Sr. Reagan spent so much money Bush didn't really have a choice. He had to violate his "Read my lips, no new taxes" pledge. Ann and crew would much rather blame a democrat for raising taxes.
Regardless if you call it race bating or religion bating, it still playing a hate card. Some of the right-wing rallied behind McCain with the hate card against the NY Times. There are many examples, it is a proven tactic.
Well, whatever the reason, Cesar, he's been pretty good on the matter - much better than we had any reason to assume on September 12. Give the devil his due.
As much as I dislike Bush, he does deserve soemthing for that. Either that, or our society in general deserves some credit. Just 60 years ago, we put American citizens that looked like the enemy in internment camps for no reason. And that was with a White House controlled by the Democrats!! I can't even imagine what a redneck president would have done.
Fuckin' Methodists.
😉
JsubD:
What's the difference between a Methodist and an Atheist?
...
The Methodists don't know either.
I thought I reset my handle, dammit.
2005 Mayoral election, Detroit, Michigan,
The Kwame Kilpatrick campaign repeatedly referred to his his opponent Freeman Hendrix as Helmut. Helmut was Hendrix's given first name. His mother was a German citizen and his father an African American soldier. Growing up in America, Hendrix adopted and used his middle name, Freeman, for obvious reasons. The constant use of Kilpatricks supporters of his given, unused and disliked first name, was dirty, but effective politics.
Oh yes, black politicians will play those bigotry games as well.
One other thing...if Obama isn't a Terrorist Bomber, then why is his middle name Islamobamafascism?
What about the people he killed on 9/11?
What about the CHILDREN?
But Senator Obama is running against a Republican. Of COURSE it's going to be ugly.
joe, see my previous. It's not a WASP thingee. It's not a Republican thingee. It's a win at all costs thingee, that transcends race, religion and party. To believe otherwise is disingenious or foolish.
Fuckin' Methodists.
They're so...so...Methodical!
J sub D, you know as well as I do that some are worse then others, and that the national Republicans have been swimming in the sewer since 1992.
Cunningham is a rabble rouser from way back, full of verbal tics such as this. I imagine the "Hussein" usage was more to invoke Saddam Hussein than some calculated ploy to make his audience gasp and think "Muslim!" Willie's a clown, don't take him so seriously.
The blame for this mess falls fully on McCain. Bill Cunningham is what he is - a shock jock. You don't take in a scorpion and then get pissed when he stings you in the ass; that's what they do...
