Green Party Presidential Chances: A Little Smaller Than Last Week….
….not as small as next week? Or, hell, maybe this news is the best thing that could have happened to the Green's prospects on the national level. At any rate, after months of flirtation (and trying to get money from Greens to retire old campaign debts), former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney officially says she won't be running for prez as a Green. She might even try to find her way back to Congress as a Democrat, even if they aren't full of the "revolutionary love" she stands for.
For those who need to relive those halcyon days when this delicious dream might have come true, see Dave Weigel weighing her chances back in May. More Weigel on McKinney, from June.

The Green Party. Yawn!
This thread is worthwhile, because it gives us all a chance to check out the semi-coherent final comment in one of the threads Brian Doherty linked, said comment managing to compare McKinney to MLK Jr.
McKinney is still officially a laughingstock in my beloved hometown, but I have this strange feeling she's going to weasel her way back into office.
There was some small hope that the green's could force their way into a presidential debate and McKinney would assault one of the major party candidates.
No point in paying attention to the election now.
Anyone else have McKinney on their "Just Go Away" list besides me? Apparently, Politics is the true "money for nothing" job and she wants to get back to doing nothing, becasue as you all already know nothing ever really happens in DC, it is always Same Shit, Different Mouth. That being said, I never thought of what carrick said. I, too, would love to see McKinney throw down on anyone of them. (minus Dr. No)
I think carrick has locked up the win on this thread.
Oh damn. I was so hoping she would run for president. Then all those 9/11 kooks in the Paul campaign would leave to support her.
The Green Party reached its peak with the Ralph Nader campaign in 2000. It has declined since then because Ralph was blamed for throwing the election to Bush.
Since then, Ralph and the Greens have not been able to agree on a strategy to overcome this perception. Ralph is no longer loyal to the Green Party, but all that is left is members of three little Trotskyite groups that remained in the Green Party, but backed Nader again in 2004. It is not likely they can recover or make any noise in 2008. Finis.
The Greens are now free to run a credible candidate. There seems to be a lot of anti-war voters and the two major parties won't be offering them a candidate.
"There seems to be a lot of anti-war voters and the two major parties won't be offering them a candidate."
What?! Ron Paul's not going to get the Republican nomination? How did that happen?
It's not easy being Green.
They will still win more votes than the Libertarian Party, which will probably nominate someone who wears a tin foil hat to keep the IRS from sending radio signals into his brain.
Undoubtedly.
