  1. Pro Libertate   18 years ago

I would like to officially announce my intentions to not run for president in 2008.

  2. Queen\'s Gambit Declined   18 years ago

It appears as though Hillary has committed again the crime of making an analogy that a hostile media can twist into something she didn't mean.

Later, we'll all wonder why politicans speak in cliche and remain PC when at all possible.

  3. Carl   18 years ago

Or it could be that Hillary is the populist vote whore we've all come to know and love.

  4. P Brooks   18 years ago

"Earlier in the day, she cashed in with a VIP reception and $1,000 minimum dinner for more than 100 lawyers."

As he read this passage, his blood ran cold; he thought, for an instant, he detected rapid furtive movement in the darker corners of the room. He rose, pulse pounding in his ears, to rouse the fire. His hand lingered on the poker before he allowed it to slide back to its accustomed place in the rack, and he nudged the chair slightly before sitting, in order to bring the poker within reach.

  5. tros   18 years ago

Wow, I don't know if I vomited enough when I read that. Vomit. Vomit. Vomit.

    They're lying.

  6. thoreau   18 years ago

I am pleased to announce that I will not be a candidate for any faculty positions in 2008, and that if I am a physics faculty matter I will incorporate Newtonian mechanics into the curriculum.

  7. Larry Edelstein   18 years ago

Carl, they are all populist whores. I gather that Weigel finds her personally annoying and an easy target, so he takes a cheap shot at her. Might as well just be clear about it.

  8. R C Dean   18 years ago

Carl, they are all populist whores. I gather that [insert internet commenter name here] finds [insert public figure's name here] personally annoying and an easy target, so he takes a cheap shot at him/her.

Isn't that the way it works for everyone.

And, c'mon, who doesn't find Hillary! annoying? Seriously. I'm betting she annoys herself.

  9. Queen\'s Gambit Declined   18 years ago

Ah, the one serious female candidate is of course a "whore". How dare she try to convince people to vote for her.

  10. Kebko   18 years ago

You know, Queen's Gambit, you remind me a lot of Mother Teresa, who used to say "Let's keep trying til we convince people to support us."

A wise woman, she was, and very much like yourself, as can be seen above.

  11. Ellen Evans   18 years ago

At least she isn't being called "nappy-headed." 🙂

  12. John   18 years ago

"How dare she try to convince people to vote for her."

By pretending that she something that she is not in a really insulting and almost racist way? Yeah nothing worth ridiculing there. Granted, she is hardly alone in doing that, but "everybody does it" just means all politicians should be called out as buffoons not that Hillary gets a free pass.

  13. Veronica   18 years ago

Queen's Gambit, just because she's a woman doesn't mean she's worthy of a vote, and it certainly doesn't mean she's worthy of respect.

  14. creech   18 years ago

"We're trying to help you as much as we can."
So Prez Bush should challenge her: "I'll write a check from my personal account in the same proportion to my 2006 income as you write from your account in proportion to yours."
I'm tired of their grandstanding and helping with my money. I have charities and causes of my own, Ms. Rodham Clinton.

  15. Russ 2000   18 years ago

Later, we'll all wonder why politicans speak in cliche and remain PC when at all possible.

The only choices are cliche or analogy? Concise, straight talk is apparently out of the question.

  16. MP   18 years ago

I'm please to announce that at some later date I'll be pleased to announce something.

  17. joe   18 years ago

First of all, I want to announce that I have made no plans to run for president in 2008. I absolutely have not decided to run. I find the idea that I have made the decision to run for president ridiculous.

"And, c'mon, who doesn't find Hillary! annoying? Seriously. I'm betting she annoys herself."

I find annoying. I wouldn't want to have a beer with her. Hopefully, this nation is a little wiser than it was four and eight years ago.

  18. Russ 2000   18 years ago

Ah, the one serious female candidate is of course a "whore".

Personally, I find "whore" to be rather complimentary. A whore intuitively understands the concepts of supply and demand. That doesn't sound like Hilary Clinton.

  19. Carl   18 years ago

I'm just as likely to call any politician a whore as much as Hillary Clinton. Gigolo just doesn't sound as bad and makes it me chuckle when I say it.

  20. Max   18 years ago

I don't think the Clintons are good people (remember the $100,000 bribe from Tyson [insert "not convicted so must really be innocent" defense], pardons for sale, etc) and they've ALREADY HAD EIGHT @#$#ing YEARS! If the Democrats nominate Clinton, they've got rocks in their heads.

  21. dhex   18 years ago

what a horrendous analogy. who the hell is writing her material?

  22. JW   18 years ago

Ah, the one serious female candidate is of course a "whore".

I'm so glad we agree on this. The other candidates are whores as well; smiling, lip-moving whores, but whores just the same. Mind you though, not the good kind of whore. The good kind actually provide a needed service in-kind for your dollars and leave you with a sense of satisfaction.

Hillary's kind just make me feel dirty.

How dare she try to convince people to vote for her.

Let's not and say she did.

  23. tros   18 years ago

Ah, the one serious female candidate is of course a "whore". How dare she try to convince people to vote for her.

Hillary Clinton doesn't count as a woman. She is an insectoid alien wearing human skin. What the fuck is the point of having a woman president if they are a fascist warmongering monster?

  24. Legate Damar   18 years ago

I would like to announce that I fail to meet the age requirement for president.

  25. Legate Damar   18 years ago

However, if memory serves, Radley can run in 2012.

  26. Queen\'s Gambit Declined   18 years ago

The funny thing is, if you suggest that Hillary's gender is one of the main thing working against her, people will actually argue about that. Usually the same people who call her a whore.

  27. Legate Damar   18 years ago

I'll also go ahead and announce my intention to be the consummate yes-man while my boss sells out our people to a foreign power in an effort to regain his personal power. Then, when said boss goes ape-shit insane, I will claim the mantle of nominal leader of my people while concentrating solely on drinking myself into oblivion and letting the foreigners run my empire. Eventually, I will realize that my constant drunken wenching fails to improve my spirits, and I will lead a glorious revolution against my people's oppressors. The revolution will be successful, but alas, I will die in a firefight.

    That is all.

  28. Carl   18 years ago

    That's a good point Queen. I can't say I agree with this:

"What the fuck is the point of having a woman president if they are a fascist warmongering monster?"

Even if I agreed with the fact that she's a fascist warmongering monster (which I do)I wonder about the motivation of a person saying something like that. Maybe that person is looking for a nurturer as President. Where's Mrs. Garrett when you need her?

I think that would be a great sitcom. The Facts of Life characters grow up and take over the white house.

  29. joe   18 years ago

See, Gambit, when pressed, the people who describe the only woman in the race as a whore will agree to call other candidates by the same name.

So it couldn't possibly demonstrate anything about the way female politicians are viewed.

  30. Brandybuck   18 years ago

"Ah, the one serious female candidate is of course a "whore". How dare she try to convince people to vote for her."

The other candidates are, of course, pimps. So it all evens out.

  31. jb   18 years ago

I don't think it takes pressing. I'm too lazy to look through old Edwards/Obama/Giuliani/Romney threads, but I'd bet they all get accused of being whores, or prostituting themselves, or something similar.

  32. Aresen   18 years ago

    PL

And where should we not send our non-contributions to your non-campaign?

  33. D.A. Ridgely   18 years ago

So it couldn't possibly demonstrate anything about the way female politicians are viewed.

It could, but the case would be much stronger if any such commenters also called, say, Margaret Thatcher a whore.

Anyway, this is all terribly unfair to whores. Unlike politicians, whores have the good taste to stop screwing you once you're dead.

  34. Jim Henshaw   18 years ago

    Queen's Gambit Declined --

Don't like the word "whores"? Fine. To avoid any taint of sexism, can we all agree that, as usual, the scum has risen to the top?

Personally, I feel "politician" is a far more pejoritive term than "whore".

  35. R C Dean   18 years ago

I think you can find H & R folks applying the label "whore", particularly the variant "media whore" to politicians of all genders.

  36. LarryA   18 years ago

As president, Hillary Clinton will free the slaves.

Woohoo! Income tax reform. Social Security privitization. Do away with---

    Oh. The other slaves.

    Nevermind.

  37. TrickyVic   18 years ago

""""Ah, the one serious female candidate is of course a "whore". How dare she try to convince people to vote for her."

The other candidates are, of course, pimps. So it all evens out.""""

I think pimp is closer to the proper word. We are usually the ones getting screwed. Wouldn't that make us the whores? They get our money and we get screwed.

  38. Blue   18 years ago

Hey, Whores are hard working men and women.
We are suckers negotiating how much we'll pay to get reamed (you can get it for free).
    The politicians are rapists.

  39. Thomas Paine\'s Goiter   18 years ago

Hillary is certainly not a whore. She's a leech.

  40. NAL   18 years ago

I know all politicians are populist, pandering and power-hungry, but Hillary has got to be the worst presidential candidate ever at covering up that aspect of herself.

  41. Joe Majsterski   18 years ago

Thankfully, Hillary isn't smooth enough to maintain the illusion of giving a shit about anybody but herself. That's why she won't win.

  42. Neu Mejican   18 years ago

"""""Ah, the one serious female candidate is of course a "whore". How dare she try to convince people to vote for her."

The other candidates are, of course, pimps. So it all evens out."""""

Just wanted to add some more "'s to that.

  43. Neu Mejican   18 years ago

    Be sure if you quote

""""""Ah, the one serious female candidate is of course a "whore". How dare she try to convince people to vote for her."

The other candidates are, of course, pimps. So it all evens out.""""""

that you add your own "'s to the string.

  44. Guy Montag   18 years ago

Good thing she is departing from the Lincoln doctrine. She is about 150 years late, but better late than never.

  45. Constantina   18 years ago

I really didn't know much about Sen. Hagel, the more I read the more I liked. I read one column in particular that, though brief, really hit home. For me as a republican, Hagel would be the ideal candidate.

Here is the link to the column
