Reason On Your Radio
I'm going to appear on the Mark Carbonero show at 10:10 eastern, talking about Newt Gingrich (whose exciting possible presidential bid seems to be forgotten in Fredmania!).
That's sort of an interesting question. Has the Bay City Rollers-style mania over the man from Tennessee bled away interest in a Newt run, or has it demonstrated that people are fickle and excited about whoever enters the race next? Does that work for third parties, too - like if in May 2008 the LP nominates someone with starpower (like Wayne Allyn Root or Doug Stanhope)? UPDATE: By "starpower" I mean "more media savvy than Michael Badnarik." Hard to imagine, I know.

Um, Dave, I know you are on the young side but is this the only time you have ever noticed how presidential races go over a year out?
Dave, I don't think that Wayne Allen Root or Doug Stanhope really have "starpower."
Um, Who? How about real star power (If all we're looking for is some media attention) run Penn Jillette for a few months before putting up a real candidate.
Drew Carey in '08!
Re: the Update
Oh my God! Does this mean I'm famous. I better go see if I'm anywhere on Pink is the New Blog.
If Doug Stanhope wants to be the LP candidate, fine. But pedagogy and comedy don't mix well (see - Garofalo, Janeane). He could kill his golden goose.
I can't say he's not funny, but I'm not really a fan.
I could get behind a Jillete / Carey ticket.
I'd love to see Fred big-foot Newt. Fred is all hat and no cattle, as we say on K Street, but Newt is a no-good, cattle-thieving son of a bitch. Yeeeee-haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

It means we've got almost two years until the election, and only political junkies give a shit at this point.
