Our beloved former colleague Matt Welch, now hanging his editorial fedora at the LA Times, digs up some fine examples of John McCain's sensible non-interventionist foreign policy thinking--alas, from decades and conflicts gone by.

reason needs to auto-post every Matt Welch article. Man I miss him. Great article, too, because it's always good to see how much of a hypocritical pigfucker McCain is.

    McCain fans,

What exactly do you like about him?

    Signed,
    Genuinely Interested

    highnumber,

I've been a fan of his for many years (which doesn't necessarily mean I'd vote for him). It stems from a lot of little incidents over the years where I read things he said and had the following reaction: "Man, he's the only politician I've ever heard say that, and I totally agree." Of course, I can't remember what any of those things were now, but none of them were recent.

Of course, I did love when he gave the religious right what-for in the 2000 primaries. I could love him for that alone.

Don't miss the coup de gr?ce on Matt's personal site.

...Nobody puts 'em out of their misery like Matt Welch.

Hate to break it to you, but chances are he's retracted/contradicted just about all of them by now.

That's why I voted for him in the 2000 primaries - just enough anti-Business As Usual to make me think maybe there was something there.

Wouldn't do it again, though, as should suprise no one on this site.

  7. Grand Chalupa   19 years ago

McCain is a power crazed war mongering elderly fascist.

  8. thoreau   19 years ago

I am ashamed to admit that I campaigned for McCain in 2000. I campaigned for him because I thought that he was one of the few that truly meant well. Now I fear him for that very reason, because good intentions can make a person less susceptible to reason, less likely to realize the bad effects of good intentions and adjust accordingly.

As to McCain's about-face on foreign policy, I have long suspected that the 9/11 hijackers flew airplanes into the brains of vast numbers of Americans. Many never fully recovered their mental abilities.

Many never fully recovered their mental abilities.

Starting with the 3000 at ground zero.
