Radley: It's not even close--as asinine as Goode is and that's pretty asinine--he doesn't even come close to Schlussel.

  2. Brian24   19 years ago

That's actually the most asinine thing of any sort that I've read in quite some time.

  3. Crackerbarrel   19 years ago

"... is a man who Muslims think is a Muslim ..."

So what if Muslims think Obama's Muslim?

I'm an ex-Catholic atheist, and because I was baptized R.C., and baptism supposedly leaves an "indelible mark" on the soul, Catholics think I'm Catholic, and I'm counted in their numbers. There's no way recognized by the R.C. church to resign from it. Even excommunication means only that the target person is not allowed to partake of communion.

The best we can do in these matters is to go with what a person says they are, or aren't.

    Crackerbarrel.

    "The Protestants hate the Catholics,
And the Catholics hate the Protestants,
And the Hindus hate the Muslims,
All of my folks hate all of your folks,
    And everybody hates the Jews."

-'National Brotherhood Week' - Tom Lehrer

  5. steveintheknow   19 years ago

I thought Judaism was the only religion you can't escape from despite what you actually believe. As David Cross so eloquently put it, "was your mothers vagina Jewish when you were born?".

  6. Matt   19 years ago

want a cheap way to feel smart? scroll through the comments section on Slushlushls comments section.

what rock do those freaks live under?

  7. joe   19 years ago

Somebody needs to pick up Daniel Inouye and bach Schussel over the head with him.

    Racist pig.

  8. Chris S.   19 years ago

Amazing. For those without the stomach or patience to read the linked article, the gist of the article is that Barack Obama is either lying about not being Muslim or he's muslim but he doesn't know it (yeah, figure that one out). After all, his middle name is Hussein and he's half Kenyan. Kenya is majority christian nation, but lots of people apparently catch the muslim disease in African countries, which is enough for Schlussel.

If you look at her other posts, you'll find a curious trend: she likes to 'out' muslims. Schlussel knows what you don't know: the shadow muslims live among us; they're going to destroy us; and they're so secretive and treacherous that some of them don't even know they're muslims! You might be one! Have you checked your lineage lately? Have you been in contact with muslims? Be afraid.

  9. joe   19 years ago

That puts Schlussel to the right of Ann "Bomb their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity" Coulter.

  10. I. Self. Divine.   19 years ago

"...when we are fighting the war of our lives against Islam?"

Are people really this retarded? Excuse me while I go bash my head against a wall in the empty office down the hall.

  11. I. Self. Divine.   19 years ago

    heh heh...that rhymed.

  12. shecky   19 years ago

Schlussel doesn't go far enough. For example, in her heart of hearts, Hillary knows she's a Muslim, too.

  13. Jeff P   19 years ago

    Schlussel. Sounds German to me.
The German Wikipedia has an entry for the word 'Schlussel' with an umlaut over the 'u.'

    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schl%C3%BCssel

that makes it pretty clear she has ties to heavy metal music which, as we all know, is Satanic in nature.
Do we really want a Satanic Nazi expressing her views online?

  14. Aresen   19 years ago

    Matt

Just took your advice about the comments on the Schlussel page.

Wow! Makes Dan T look like a genuine intellectual.

  15. Jeff P   19 years ago

Crackerbarrel: I'm in the same boat.

To my knowledge, lapsed catholics cannot request excommunication. It's like a cell phone contract.

  16. David Ross   19 years ago

There's a simple answer to this one. Rip out those chapters which authorise the Struggle (which by my last reading includes 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 47, 59, 62 - and either 55 and 56, I don't remember which), and give him the remainder to swear upon.

If he insists that the Most High has revealed to his messenger that, in fact, struggling for the sabeel through physical violence is mandatory: then don't seat him.

It's a fitting reward for his wretched constituents, whose only reason for choosing this clown was to give America the finger.

  17. Jennifer   19 years ago

while Obama may not identify as a Muslim, that's not how the Arab and Muslim Streets see it. In Arab culture and under Islamic law, if your father is a Muslim, so are you. And once a Muslim, always a Muslim. You cannot go back. In Islamic eyes, Obama is certainly a Muslim. He may think he's a Christian, but they do not.

Yes, and damn dirty Jews who convert to Christianity are still damn dirty Jews, said the Germans.

I saw she was bragging about being a finalist in the Weblog awards. Which makes me think Hit and Run should stop bragging about having won last year. Y'all don't want to brag about having an award for which Ditzi McFruitcake qualifies.

  18. John M. Joy   19 years ago

Of course, in the old days, you could also be anathematized, but this required the Pope and a dozen assistants doing this little thing involving condeming you to hell and flinging candles. (I don't think the Church does this any longer - probably not worth the Pope's time.)

I suspect that many parishes keep ex-Catholics on the rolls to bolster their parish census. (I still get all the mailings.)

    JMJ
    (who considers himself a self-imposed ex-Catholic anathema)

  19. Franklin Harris   19 years ago

For example, in her heart of hearts, Hillary knows she's a Muslim, too.

Hey, if Bill can be the first black president, Hill can be the first Muslim president.

  20. Eric the .5b   19 years ago

Schlussel knows what you don't know: the shadow muslims live among us; they're going to destroy us; and they're so secretive and treacherous that some of them don't even know they're muslims!

    And they have a plan.

*speeds up the music and shows rapid-fire clips from the episode*

  21. El   19 years ago

In Arab culture and under Islamic law, if your father is a Muslim, so are you. And once a Muslim, always a Muslim. You cannot go back.

I know that once you go black, you can't go back. Maybe that's what she's REALLY worried about.

  22. Jeff P   19 years ago

Maybe she's afraid he's the kwisatch saderach.

  23. Charles Oliver   19 years ago

A few years ago, the Dalai Lama spoke put against evangelism and people converting from the faith of their parents. If my memory is correct, he may have even supported attempts by some Hindu politiciians in India to restrict Christian evangelism.

Muqtedar Khan wrote an editorial criticizing the Dalai Lama's stand. Schlussel wrote a frothing-at-the-mouth column saying that Khan had attacked the Dalai Lama because he opposed forced conversions to Islam.

  24. Jake Boone   19 years ago

Wow. Unwitting Muslim infiltrators living among us with divided loyalties... how will we ever survive long enough to find the lost thirteenth colony?

  25. Rhywun   19 years ago

Schlussel used to appear on Howard Stern all the time. I always thought she was entertaining, if somewhat nutty. But her appearances have definitely become less frequent, the loonier she gets.

Maybe she's afraid he's the kwisatch saderach.

    I believe it's "kwisatz haderach".

  26. Jennifer   19 years ago

Regarding the title of this post: what the hell happened to Dennis Prager, anyway? I remember I used to enjoy reading his stuff, and would often think "Okay, I still disagree with you about issue X but after reading your column I can see how a reasonable person would have that opinion." But now he's nothing but "GAAAAA liberals GAAAAA Muslims GAAAAA threat to Judeo-Christian blah blah blah."

Did I miss something? What happened?

  27. Guy Montag   19 years ago

Breaking with my /. habit and actually reading the Schlussel piece, I have to say that the reaction here to what she wrote is as overblown as what she wrote.

I read her to assigning a lot more importance to lineage than to environment. It is like accusing me of having some soft spot in my heart for Lutherans because I attended a Lutheran school for five years (that I sometimes refer to as being schooled by the SS) AND identifying with Catholics because my father was raised Catholic. Oh, and don't forget that long vowel at the end of my real last name!

No matter that I attend a Baptist Church then and if I identify with anything I identify with the Baptists, no matter how slight.

  28. Jennifer   19 years ago

I never heard of Schlussel before today, so I just looked her up on Wikipedia. Assuming the entry is accurate, she's the daughter of Holocaust survivors.

Christ. You'd think that as the daughter of Holocaust survivors, she might have grown up absorbing a few lessons about why it's a bad, bad idea to judge people by their ancestry rather than what they actually say or do.

  29. MM   19 years ago

The comments over there have found no nit that can't be picked. To wit:

Q: He's half white and half black, so why does he say he's black?

    A: Because he's a big LIAR!.

  30. Jeff P   19 years ago

Rhywun: thanks for the correction. I knew I misspelled it, but just didn't want to cross the geek-line of looking up the correct spelling of a science fictional messiah.

Guy: Five years of Lutheran school? You, sir, are obviously one of the unclean...

  31. Guy Montag   19 years ago

    Jeff P,

SHHHH! Don't put the kibash on my new venture: Mothag's kosher bacon!

  32. Guy Montag   19 years ago

    Correction: Montag's kosher bacon.

  33. Rhywun   19 years ago

didn't want to cross the geek-line of looking up the correct spelling of a science fictional messiah

I just took the plunge in order to verify that I indeed had the correct spelling, and came close to losing myself in one of those eternal wikipedia clickfests. The only reason I was able to extricate myself is that it's almost time to leave work.

  34. mediageek   19 years ago

"Hey, if Bill can be the first black president, Hill can be the first Muslim president."

Yeah, and Tom Cruise is gay.

  35. Guy Montag   19 years ago

    mediageek,

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your humor, or do you truly believe that the real-life husband of Jeff Gordon is homosexual?

  36. TrickyVic   19 years ago

Jennifer, I think Prager can be found at the World Net Daily http://www.wnd.com

  37. Jeff P   19 years ago

Rhywun: my favorite get-lost-in-Wiki game is looking up fictional presidents. They outnumber real ones about 8 to 1.

  38. yuri   19 years ago

No, I do not think the article about Obama is stupid, inane, or assinine. It is standard Republican.

  39. Jennifer   19 years ago

I know Prager writes there, TrickyVic. I want to know what the hell happened to make him bust his mental mainspring.

  40. Isaac Bartram   19 years ago

    Jennifer

As near as I can tell he was traumatized to 9/11.

A lot of other folks were too, of course. He just seems to have reacted in a rather extreme way.

  41. Happy Jack   19 years ago

I think I might be a secret muslim.

The pork in the tamale I had for lunch appears to be disagreeing with my soul.

  42. Aresen   19 years ago

    Happy Jack

In which case, I suggest you enter the confessional with the white throne. 😉

  43. Jim Walsh   19 years ago

what the hell happened to Dennis Prager, anyway...now he's nothing but "GAAAAA liberals GAAAAA Muslims GAAAAA threat to Judeo-Christian blah blah blah."

What happened was Prager, like most of his fellow travelers in Rightwingcommentaryland, decided there was more money in pandering to the ninety year-old wingnuts...

  44. henry   19 years ago

You know what pisses me off most? I'll have to vote for this 100% ADA liberal because I despise even more the shitbags attacking him. I will do it just out of spite.

  45. TrickyVic   19 years ago

"""I know Prager writes there, TrickyVic. I want to know what the hell happened to make him bust his mental mainspring."""

    Oh, ok.

Personally, I think all of them at WND busted a spring. Maybe it broke under the weight of trying to prop-up the falling GOP. Limbaugh said he was relieved that the GOP lost because he no longer had to carry their buckets of water (I think it was)for them. Of course it wasn't buckets of water but buckets of undeserved credibility.

  46. TrickyVic   19 years ago

Goode is wrong. There can not be a religious test for government. Therefore no one can demand you do it with a bible or any other religious text.

These swearing in events are usually private, so they can use what ever book they believe in.

If Jerry Seinfield was elected, I would expect him to swear in on a stack of Superman comics.

  47. Happy Jack   19 years ago

Thanks Aresen, that seems to worked. But now I have to worry about you. You appear to be quite knowledgeable about this Islamic exorcism ritual.

  48. Aresen   19 years ago

Has to do with the Allahmentary canal. All things come to pass.

  49. The Real Bill   19 years ago

Not to defend Virgil or Debbie, but they don't seem any worse than the average Hit&Runner talking about Christians.

  50. Jennifer   19 years ago

Not to defend Virgil or Debbie, but they don't seem any worse than the average Hit&Runner talking about Christians.

Yeah, you always see us saying things like "I don't CARE that you call yourself an atheist. You were baptized as a Christian! Once a Christian, always a Christian. Why not just admit that your goal is to usher in a theocracy, Mr. Alleged Atheist?"

  51. Eric Dondero   19 years ago

There's a report out today from the Detroit News that "96% of all Muslim voters in the US voted Democrat."

On top of that Ayman Al Zwahiri has a new video out praising the Democrats for winning Congress.

And some libertarians think that we ought to have an alliance with the Democrat Party?

  52. Liberal and Free   19 years ago

Dennis Prager: Our Father Is No 'It' or Gal God, June 19th, 2005

"But, first and foremost, the Judeo-Christian God is a moral ruler
(giver of moral rules and moral judge of humanity), and neither men nor
women want to be given rules or ruled by a woman".

The above quotes are from an article by Dennis Prager where he argues
for God to be considered masculine. Notice even the title of his
article with the words "Gal God" seek to denigrate women.
    ***********************************************************************
The Holocaust Memorial council needs to do more than pass a resolution, they need to kick Prager off the council.
