Train in Vain
The Cambodians may be doing it themselves; the North Koreans are stealing their trains from the Chinese, while lobbing missiles at Hawaii with a 6000 km range that actually have a few hundred km. range.
Because one-third of Hawaii's delegates to the 2004 Democratic party convention were for Dennis Kucinich, they apparently would have deserved whatever they got–if by any chance our mighty North Korean foe did in fact have a 6000 km range missile.

Two links to loonie hard right sites, this early in the morning?
All I know is, I’m gettin’ me one of dem dere UV Missile Detector sunglasses. What with Dennis Kucinich on the loose, you can’t be too careful.
It’s going to be a long day once Frontpage notices this link….
I wouldn’t be too surprised if China smacks down NK in the near future. They’re a much bigger pain in China’s ass than ours.

This is the unintentionally smartest thing I have ever heard joe say.

Hopefully, the Kossacks are gone from yesterday’s Malkin thread. The last thing we need are those two groups fighting their proxy wars out here.
Mark,
The Chicoms are in a hell of a bind with North Korea. If the regime falls, they will get stuck with millions of refugees doing nothing but hanging out and giving the hundreds of millions of poor oppressed Chinese peseants ideas. If the regime stays in tact, it will do nothing but extort money out of South Korea and China and push the Japanese and Koreans closer to the U.S. This in addition, to giving the Japanese an excuse to go nuclear. Considering that the Japanese have a ton of natural uranium deposits and are about 10 times more technologically advanced thant he Chinese, a nuclear Japan is a real problem for the Chinese. On top of all of this, there is always the chance that the crazy bastard will actually start a war, which would destroy the South Korean economy and seriously damage the Japanese economy. That would cost the Chinese billions and put millions of Chinese workers in the unemployment line and ready to join the already angry rural peasents in revolt. The North Koreans are a boil on the ass of civilization. The only question is who gets hurt the worst when it is finally and inevitably lanced.
Take dat Hans Brix!

– I can’t figure out why they haven’t. The only thing that makes sense is that they like having NK as a distraction – maybe while the world stares at NK, China’s activities get less attention?
If I’m not mistaken, Japan is second only to the US in the amount of purified plutonium it has on hand.
I’m not so ronery any mowe! Evelyone talking about me!!
John, now give us the bad news.
Seriously, soft landings are possible. Look at Milosevic. Or the USSR.
Joe,
Kim is a different animal than even the USSR or Milosevic. Further, even the USSR did not fail its people like Kim has. Basically the elite can’t loose power in a soft landing without facing the their own people and having to explain why everything they have said for the last 40 years is a complete lie and why the entire nation was allowed to starv. If North Korea ever falls, Kim and his caudre will end up on the end or a rope or worse and they know this. That is why they don’t open the economy like China. If they ever did that and the people of North Korea realized how bad off they have it, they would revolt or all run for the border. Their plan now seems to be to invest everything in the military and use it to extort enough support from neighboring countries to stay in power.
This reminded me of this article. An Italian pizza chef describing his trip to North Korea to teach them how to make pizza. Fascinating.
You tell Sears to mwake mwore jump suits or I fire more mwissels at you!!!
“If I’m not mistaken, Japan is second only to the US in the amount of purified plutonium it has on hand.”
Well for God’s sake don’t tell Michelle Malkin that; she’ll demand we intern the Japanese-Americans again just to be safe. (“One percent doctrine” and all that, you know.)

Maybe. But why are China and Russia both opposing any UN sanctions on NK?
I’m not convinced China’s leaders are in a hurry to tame Kim Jong, any more than they already have. If there’s ever a real show down over Taiwan, having North Korea cocked could be a really handy thing for the Chinese.
I figure North Korea and Iran are the best advertisements the DOD could ask for.
From the (Frontpage) Article
“Ironically, anti-American war protesters and so-called ?environmentalist? lawyers from the misnamed ?Natural Resources Defense Council? convinced U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper to block the US Navy from training with use of ?active sonar? technologies necessary to detect North Korean and other diesel submarines until July 18. The excuse was the poorly documented claim that whales and other sea mammals are injured by US Navy Active Sonar. Appointed by former President Bill Clinton in 1999, the Canadian-born Cooper is a 1971 graduate of City College San Francisco and a 1975 graduate of the Whittier School of Law.”
Look at that- no phone number, no e-mail address: what a bunch of pussies!
The Honolulu Star-Bulletin reports the following on today’s front page (Star-Bulletin, July 7, 2006: Report: N Korea targeted Hawaii). I will only make the following quote from the story, referring to the right wing Japanese paper, the Sankei Shimbun, which was the source for the story. “‘It is not a source I would stake a Civil Defense decision on,’ said state Adjutant General Robert Lee. He said he would take it seriously if information came from the Pacific Command, which ‘has not happened.'” It is pretty scurrilous in my opinion to blame Dennis Kucinich for anything connected to the NK missile test. I am familiar with the Kucinich campaign in 2004 and let me tell you Kucinich did not come anywhere close to dominating the race here. It was a bunch of Progressive Democrats, a relatively recent subgroup of the Democratic party nationwide, opposed to the Iraq invasion who backed Kucinich.
Japan has lots of Plutonium. They are probably already a nuclear power. South Korea and Taiwan as well.
So the guy next door threatens you with a gun. Pulls it out and waves it at you. Pulls the trigger. The bullet has a bad primer and the gun fails to fire and would have probably missed anyway since he was waving the gun around and was unlikely to hit his target.
Is this neighbor an initiator of violence according to Libertarian rules?
Not if the neighbor is called North Korea.
My God, M. Simon, change your underpants already. And try to get to the urinal next time before weeing yourself. In the meantime, take a deep breath, and remind yourself: “It was a weapons test. Countries test weapons all the time.” We’re all. going. to live.
John,
I’m not talking about a soft landing for the North Korean Communist elite, but for the people, their neighbors, and us. A nice military coup and the executions of a few hundred top CP leaders, for example, followed by an upgrade in the quality of their governance all the way to Burmese or, if we’re lucky, Cuba levels.
Ayn Randian,
Dennis Kucinich realized as far back as 2002 that the United States faced no threat from Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. How does it feel to be a big, cold-eyed tough guy like yourself, and realize that, on the most important national security question of our lifetimes, you were less capable of ascertaining the truth than the guy who wants to establish a Department of Peace?
