Republicans for Soros
Former FEC Commissioner Bradley Smith, now blogging over at RedState, attacks a Republican leadership so deathly afraid of George Soros that it is desperate to adopt his policy recommendations:
Unfortunately, leading Republicans Party strategists have decided that the GOP can gain the upper hand in elections by abandoning the principles of freedom and limited government, and trying to beat Democrats by silencing them through campaign finance regulation. Call it "527 Fever," a beltway disease that afflicts Republicans, and whose most notable symptom is a paranoid fear of George Soros and free speech.
Bradley Smith lambasted "McCain's War on Political Speech" in Reason's December issue.

Maybe they should adopt his recommendations on drug policy...
A nice piece wrapped in a bunch of disingenuous bullshit, that piece is. Some of it, I expect, is just red meat for the RedState crowd, although Smith may actually believe it. No media outlet that allows Chris Matthews on their air can be fairly described as "tilting left," let alone "overwhelmingly liberal."
I'm so happy george soros is old and soon he'll die and America's enemies won't have the financial support they have now from these has-beings without teeth but with pampers.
I haven't been following the career of Chris Matthews as closely as maybe I should be (ha ha), but are some people considering him a right-winger now? Wasn't he moaning about the neo-cons taking over the last time I heard about him? I realize he isn't some "The Nation"-worshipping Bolshevik, but Matthews is a committed Democrat, isn't he, service with Tip O'Neill being the high point of his career and all that?
mitch,
It may be that some consider him middle of the road.
Soooo...you've got the two so-called Major Parties falling all over themselves to show the public how anti-liberty they can be.
Well, ain't that just ducky. What time is the next Greyhound to Venus?
Unfortunately, the Republican Party abandoned the "limited government and freedom" philosophy a while ago. I think that this further proves that the Republicans in power do not care about the core beliefs of the party any more. The only thing the Republican politicians and strategists care about these days is how to stay in power.
I was listening to the Rush Limbaugh show a few days ago (don't shoot me, he's on right after Bill Handel here in LA). During a profit break a commercial aired that blasted Cindy Sheehan (who is considering running against Diane Feinstein) for answering any and every question in politics with an emotional plea for the US to leave Iraq. The profit break ended with this statement: "sponsered by George Soros and former friends of Howard Dean". If that's for real, and I think is, Soros is spending some of his money pruning the Democratic party tree of rotten fruit.

I don't think they've never really followed that philosophy. The "limited government" part has always only been relative to the Democrats' "more government is better" philosophy.
Like the Democrats, the Republicans have always approved of obscene wastes of money and limited personal freedom, just on different issues.

As a former Limburger listener, I know that he puts parody ads that are designed to lampoon those gosh durn libruls.
Of course, you have to be an idiot (i.e. a conservative) to think their funny. Of course, these are the same comic geniuses that dreamt up Mallard Fillmore.
I don't think they've never...
Either that was a stupid mistake or I have a very thick hillbilly accent.
EDIT: ...to think they're funny...
The only thing the Republican politicians and strategists care about these days is how to stay in power.
That is true of any politicians who are "in power." Which is why the very idea of a Libertarian Party is foolish; even if its candidates win elections, the things necessary to remain in power will corrupt them. The only hope now is divided govt, which is quite difficult to maintain for long periods of time.
Of course, you have to be an idiot (i.e. a conservative) to think their funny.
Of course, you have to be an even bigger idiot to equate idiots and conservatives.
Personally, I go by the rule that idiots self-identify by accusing their opponents of being idiots.
R C Dean,
two guesses as to why your above post is funny...

Bad spelling helps, too. ("they're" vs. "their")
EDIT: Because of the EDIT I can't use the "their" barb. I categorically withdraw the injunction.
Just remember, if politicians can't attack their opponents through sock puppets, then the terrorists will have won.
Hey, just so you know, Mallard Fillmore is a libertarian.
He says so his own self.
Bill O'Reilly is against secularists. Soros is acommitted secularist. Soros gets my vote!
