Harriet Miers and Exodus Ministries?

When I listened to President Bush introduce Harriet Miers this morning as his new Supreme Court nominee, I heard him list among her affiliations Exodus Ministries. Puzzled I asked my wife if this could be what I thought it was? We both dismissed the possibility, but it keeps nagging at me.

Ms. Mier's resume lists her as a former board member of Exodus Ministry, Inc. Googling "Exodus Ministry, Inc.," brings up the website of Exodus International which notoriously bills itself as "a nonprofit, interdenominational Christian organization promoting the message of 'Freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus Christ.'"

Perhaps there is another Exodus Ministry Inc., that I have somehow missed, but if Ms. Miers was a board member of the ex-gay ministry, the next few weeks should feature some pretty spectacular fireworks on Capitol Hill.

Update: Thanks to alert Reason Online readers, my confusion over Miers and Exodus Ministries has been cleared up. The ministry she worked with is an ex-offender organization.

Yep, folks, nothing to see here. The mission of this group is hardly anything controversial.

anyway i has still got nothing of substance on this woman from this site...instead of running around looking for the "scoop" how about you really look at what perhaps her views are on judicial restraint and property rights.

Maybe, just maybe, she is Bush's effort to balance the Supreme Court.

Two weeks ago comedian Bill Maher thanked the Republicans for appointing the first gay Supreme Court Judge. He showed a picture of Judge Roberts with a very un-straight looking friend, a male waiter, and what appeared to be a flaming desert in a restaurant photo. Maher quipped "Straight men don't have their picture taken with food, unless they killed it".

Roberts has a strong (repressed) Catholic background, has two adopted children, and writes decisions laced with what could be seen as a kind of campy humor.

If Souter is in the closet as well, we may have two queen of hearts on the Supreme panel. They get to wear those black dresses in public as well!
