1.2% of the vote makes H&R quite the underdog. I voted for ya'll anyway since I always go with an underdog.
"Group Blog" sounds filthy.
Looks who is leading the pack. If quality correlates at all, H&R should not be getting crushed by NRO ...
Tech Central Station is a blog?
Hey, I just voted and it's already up to 1.8%. Put those rally caps on, folks!
Hit and Run is my second favorite blog. Unfortunately, the Volokh Conspiracy is nominated in the same category. Sorry guys.
You get today's vote for bringing it up. Tomorrow belongs to Samizdata.
A guy from Brooklyn should know how to rig this thing.
Unfortunately, the Volokh Conspiracy is nominated in the same category. Sorry guys.
It must be popular... it won't load in my browser.
As for The Corner, yuck. Only on drugs do they differ in any significant way from the Republican platform, which I can hear about anywhere else.

Yes, it was a tough choice -- Volokh Conspiracy, Samizdata and Hit&Run. Three of my favorites all up for the same award.
Perhaps the silver lining is that it improves the odds of not being disappointed by the eventual winner?
cheers,
Shirley Knott
So The Corner and Blogs for Bush constitute 50% of the votes. Y'all should take that 2% you have as a compliment.
GOD DAMN IT. I always feel like starting a killing spree when I encounter NRO. If I'd of known they were getting 41%, I wouldn't have bothered. How fucking disgusting. As if the Corner were anything but gutless elitist pap.
The exercise of free speech, allowing anyone to post just about any comment they care to, (hate filled flames, off topic, thousand word rants, cursing, etc.) is what makes Hit and Run great. Greater by far than the sanctioned dogma they shovel over at NRO.
Bah. I can't see how can a GroupBlog can be considered if it doesn't allow anon comments.
For D. Anghlone and others here's a way to vote that would make Daley proud. No I'm not from Brooklyn but all you have to do is remove the cookie that is set from the site. Depending upon the browser you're using find the site 2004WebLogAwards.com with the cookie name being AdvancesPoll6. Delete that cookie and go back and vote as again or as many times as you keep deleting the cookie.

My recent excursion into the leftosphere has given me greater appreciation for the format of H&R, and even more for the quality of community found here. Sure there's juvenile and psychotic posting, but only enough to make it fun. The bulk seems to be intelligent people sharing ideas. And who else has thoreau?
Thanks.
i deleted the cookies and voted three times, though the second set of results showed 6714 votes and the third set showed 3910 votes. make of it what you will.
IMPORTANT - The Corner was erroneously listed as a choice in this poll. From the rules:
Sites were limited to appearing in one poll, with the exception of Best Election Coverage, where sites that were finalists in other categories could also be finalists. This was done to a) maximize participate, and b) keep the behemoths from dominating every category up and down the list. The idea is that equal size blogs (or approximately equal) compete against each other.
Rules are rules. The Corner has been removed from this category. They are still active in the Best Overall Blog and Best Election Coverage category.
WHOO HOO! Did one of us do that? See, stuff like that (and cookie advice) is why user comments make for great blogs.
The Corner has been removed from the voting, so there is still hope!
Does anyone here actually want comments on the Corner? Considering the letters that they do print, it'd be an outlet for the elitist Freepers. Yikes. Though I will say elitist anti-intellectuals are kinda amusing. Anyone reading their current campaign, "Don't send your kids to college because there's a bunch of leftists there." What crap.
What is it with partisans of both sides? Kevin Drum is a moderate lefty and pretty non-objectionable, but his commenters are crazy, same with the left. Reason definitely has the best comments section in the blogosphere that I've found. Plus we're nicer with the ideological outliers (read: joe) than the same get treatment on other sites.
Yeah, we ROCK!
BTW, my cookie is: *@archives[1].txt and I have to open a new IE window each time to vote again.
It says vote totals will be corrected for identified cheating and cheaters will be banned, so I think I'll limit myself to 10 votes a day.
Blogs that don't allow comments are somewhat like science without experiments. They are impoverished by the lack of feedback relative to blogs that do have comments like this groovy place. Despite the Corner's slant, I've gotta believe that they would have given up on the WMD hustle a lot earlier if they had to respond to reader feedback. They wound up seeming pretty silly.
H&R is just so dynamic and cutting edge. Hell, even if H&R didn't have comments, they would still be the best. I gonna vote again?tomorrow, of course.

Or an outlet for hateful, lunatic fringe creeps, like FrontPage Magazine.... I can't believe I used to read that.
No mention of the Kerik appointment? The first article I saw regarding the appointment said Kerik (L). I haven't seen it since. Is he actually an LP guy? That would be a great step, especially at that position.

H&R is my favorite. Then, oddly, a no comments blog. MarginalRevolution is awesome. Samizdata and Volokh are up there. I seem to like the econblog more than the law blog, though.
Jason,
Yeah I agree, Marginal Revolution is good.
Hmm, methinks I'll have to check out Marginal Revolution.
If you like MarginalRevolution - and you should - check out Cafe Hayek.
There should be a category for best comments - H&R would win that hnads down IMO.
Todd Fletcher and others,
How could we organize a poll for what you're talking about?
Let's do it! How hard could it be?
Samizdata is listed in the group blog and the UK blog categories, which I believe is against the rules. If you get them kicked out of the group blog category, it would probably be a big help for Hit and Run. You're both competing for the libertarian vote.
Xavier,
I Blogged your observation on the poll and got an email saying they'd remove Samizdata too :>
But shouldn't we libertarians be withholding our votes? Or at least confine ourselves to a principled write-in for Badnarik? Otherwise, we're just legitimizing the system.
Warren: I didn't want to be the one to snitch on Samizdata. They have a pretty good site, too. At the moment it looks like Samizdata is still included in both categories. I hope they don't get removed from the UK category. It's the only one I know there, and it's doing pretty well.
My suggestion was that since they are vying for top spot on the UK poll they should be removed from the group poll. The email response I got was "Thanks. I'll get to that tonight!!!"
For the record, we do not advocate getting any of the competition removed from the polling. I'm still convinced we would have pulled a Truman>Dewey surge against The Corner, and disappointed they're no longer in the game. Ditto Samizdata-though they may owe us for the way we let R.C. Dean stink up our comments section.
Todd,
Thanks for the Cafe Hayek hint. I enjoy the Hayek Scholars Page...

...but I wasn't hep to Cafe Hayek.
NEWS FLASH!
This just in!
Colin Powell urges that, despite changes in the list of entrants; "The vote for 2004 Weblog Award in the Best Group Blog category should continue as scheduled without any delays."
Well, the man has to do something now...
