Yes, it was a tough choice -- Volokh Conspiracy, Samizdata and Hit&Run. Three of my favorites all up for the same award.
Perhaps the silver lining is that it improves the odds of not being disappointed by the eventual winner?

For D. Anghlone and others here's a way to vote that would make Daley proud. No I'm not from Brooklyn but all you have to do is remove the cookie that is set from the site. Depending upon the browser you're using find the site 2004WebLogAwards.com with the cookie name being AdvancesPoll6. Delete that cookie and go back and vote as again or as many times as you keep deleting the cookie.

My recent excursion into the leftosphere has given me greater appreciation for the format of H&R, and even more for the quality of community found here. Sure there's juvenile and psychotic posting, but only enough to make it fun. The bulk seems to be intelligent people sharing ideas. And who else has thoreau?

IMPORTANT - The Corner was erroneously listed as a choice in this poll. From the rules:

Sites were limited to appearing in one poll, with the exception of Best Election Coverage, where sites that were finalists in other categories could also be finalists. This was done to a) maximize participate, and b) keep the behemoths from dominating every category up and down the list. The idea is that equal size blogs (or approximately equal) compete against each other.
Rules are rules. The Corner has been removed from this category. They are still active in the Best Overall Blog and Best Election Coverage category.

Does anyone here actually want comments on the Corner? Considering the letters that they do print, it'd be an outlet for the elitist Freepers. Yikes. Though I will say elitist anti-intellectuals are kinda amusing. Anyone reading their current campaign, "Don't send your kids to college because there's a bunch of leftists there." What crap.

What is it with partisans of both sides? Kevin Drum is a moderate lefty and pretty non-objectionable, but his commenters are crazy, same with the left. Reason definitely has the best comments section in the blogosphere that I've found. Plus we're nicer with the ideological outliers (read: joe) than the same get treatment on other sites.

Blogs that don't allow comments are somewhat like science without experiments. They are impoverished by the lack of feedback relative to blogs that do have comments like this groovy place. Despite the Corner's slant, I've gotta believe that they would have given up on the WMD hustle a lot earlier if they had to respond to reader feedback. They wound up seeming pretty silly.

H&R is just so dynamic and cutting edge. Hell, even if H&R didn't have comments, they would still be the best. I gonna vote again?tomorrow, of course.

H&R is my favorite. Then, oddly, a no comments blog. MarginalRevolution is awesome. Samizdata and Volokh are up there. I seem to like the econblog more than the law blog, though.

Samizdata is listed in the group blog and the UK blog categories, which I believe is against the rules. If you get them kicked out of the group blog category, it would probably be a big help for Hit and Run. You're both competing for the libertarian vote.

Warren: I didn't want to be the one to snitch on Samizdata. They have a pretty good site, too. At the moment it looks like Samizdata is still included in both categories. I hope they don't get removed from the UK category. It's the only one I know there, and it's doing pretty well.

My suggestion was that since they are vying for top spot on the UK poll they should be removed from the group poll. The email response I got was "Thanks. I'll get to that tonight!!!"

For the record, we do not advocate getting any of the competition removed from the polling. I'm still convinced we would have pulled a Truman>Dewey surge against The Corner, and disappointed they're no longer in the game. Ditto Samizdata-though they may owe us for the way we let R.C.
