Canada's first wave of gay marriages leads to first attempt at gay divorce; a June 18, 2003, legal union between two women causes a 10-year relationship to splinter after five days. Unfortunately, Canadian divorce law does not yet make any allowances for this situation.

So when are those who are arguing that 'gay marriage ruins the sanctity of the institution' going to stand up and say they shouldn't allow divorces, and furthermore, should disallow hetero couples from getting divorces. Seems that does more to 'undermine' marriage than letting more people get married. But maybe it's not really about that.

"But maybe it's not really about that."

    Heh heh, Ya think?

The "Gay Divorce" line the Bible-beaters use plays into the stereotype that homosexuals are inherently promiscuous and will want to with as long as it's of the same sex. (This also plays into the "gay-equals-pedophile" meme, too.)

Of course, this argument doesn't mean much to me given I have a hard time believing that heterosexuals are supposed to be monogamous.

Lets do humanity a favor and put "marriage" --hetro and homo--where it belongs: Dumped on the proverbial Ash Heap of History next to Soviet Communism.

That lesbian couple must have discovered what straights have known forever: The sex is never as good after you get married.

    Mwuahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Imagine how paranoid those evil fundamentalists must be to think that there are people out to undermine marriage!

"Imagine how paranoid those evil fundamentalists must be to think that there are people out to undermine marriage!"

As much as I would like to see "traditional" marriage phased out, I'm realize that it won't happen anytime soon. If you want to get hitched, fine. If you can stand to fuck the same person for the rest of your life, all the more power to you. I just resent the notion that there is only ONE way human beings can live together and that way must be written into our laws and even our Constitution.

If marriage is an institution that requires laws to prop it up, then I say to Hell (or, since I don't believe in Hell, to Obsolence) with it. Let it fall. The market has decided.

I don't see how my attitudes about sexuality and my wish that society should choose to abandon marriage "undermines" the way anyone chooses to live. I'm not advocating that married couples be torn apart, that's their call. The only group I see doing anything coercive are the fundementalists demanding the power of the state be used to cram their idea of what marriage (i.e. one-man, one-woman for the rest of your life) should be down everyone's throat. Not me.

    Mark S,

In line with your posts, do you also see an increase in heterosexual swinging and sex clubs as I do? The past 2 relationships I have been in, we invited a 3rd person. We are currently discussing that idea in my current relationship. Believe me when I say this, as the man, it hasn't been my suggestions, its been all theirs! But as I talk to my "buddies" about this, I am told time and again that I am one lucky dude. However, I am intrigued by my "lucky" phenonemon and more curious if I have "faults" that leads to my partner seeking more sexual fulfillment then what I can deliver solo. Ergo, maybe its me that someone doesn't want to spend the rest of their lives fucking!

Ahh, 3somes, the fruit of temptation in which I cannot resist. I am with Santorum, if society allows for gay marriage, then why can't I marry 2 chicks who are also hot for each other? My only downfall would be if they decided to divorce me and each takes me for half!

After rereading my post, I think I will package it with some more info and ship it off to the letter editor at Hustler!

I'm glad you found an outlet for your talents since that job writing letters to Penthouse ended.

I remember reading awhile about about divorce/dissolution of domestic partnerships in the Netherlands.

The result was the lesbian couples divorced at the same rate as heterosexual couples. Gay men had a lower divorce rate than both.

Conclusion: It's really is the woman's fault.

    🙂

Heard about that one yesterday. Edward I. Koch, New York's most fun mayor (who might possibly be gay as well) said a few years ago in reference to gay marriage....."Gay marriage, if you allow it you're going to have to deal with gay divorce" How true Mayor Koch.....you didn't have to have a crystal ball for that one.

  12. Torquemada   21 years ago

But remember, heterosexuals do it too, and what about Newt Gingritch and *his* divorce, and so on.

Will we have to refer to these ladies as "gay divorcees?"

No Shit!?! Those letters helped shape my imagination as an adolescent in a rural red state! Where's the humanity?

    Heh hee, good one gus.
