I was up last night watching Larry King, who had a panel of bobbleheads on dissecting the primary results, including David Gergen, Tucker Carlson, and Daily Show alum Mo Rocca.
Carlson lives in somes sort of strange parallel universe, and seems to believe that if he acts as though its Daliesque rules and assumptions are in play, the rest of us will conclude we must live there too. In the Carlsonverse, it's tawdry, neglecting serious issues, when Kerry cracks some line about really knowing about aircraft carriers. Because, of course, Bush would never employ such cheap tactics. It's just that all his suits were at the cleaners, and the pilot costume was the only thing on hand…
The choice to have Rocca there was inspired, and he clearly threw the other panelists a bit. He's a pitch-perfect wonk parody in the proud Daily Show tradition, armed with the requisite cache of dubiously relevant facts, and does rings around the real deal he's mimicing so brutally.

I went to bed before Rocca came on, but I'm pretty sure I heard Larry King refer to him as a "Today Show contributor" at the beginning of the show.
I think it's great that Presidential candidates appear on the Daily Show. I'm still waiting for Bush to make an appearance, however.
Come on, W, you can do it! Jon Stewart doesn't bite. Rob Cordry might drool in nervous anticipation, Samantha Bee might make some innuendos that go over your head, and Steven Colbert might be condescending, but Jon won't bite.
Tucker's not so bad. Miles more honest and thoughtful than most conservative talking heads. Anyone catch Bill Bennett on Fox? Not even pretending to be accurate or fair.
Rocca makes a mockery of the electoral process. That's what I like about him.
That a Reason editor believes a talentless, half-witted powderpuff like Mo Rocca is even worthy of comment should be a big warning sign to potential subscribers.
Ken,
Opinion are like ... you.

Steve in CO:
My goodness, that was so well played.
I thought is was a bit cheeky ... and you were rude, and deserved it.
🙂
Rude? How so? I complimented your post. As for my original post, I felt compelled to perform the public service.
If anyone else wants to avoid the magazine on the basis of my taste in comedians, I'd be happy to provide a fuller list of people I think are funny...
Colbert is superior to Rocca. Though Rocca is funny.
And that's my Mopinion.
Rocca's not comedic enough to be labeled a "comedian."
Hmmm, this "Daily Show" you speak of--which channel is that on? I have heard the name bandied about in more esoteric forums (such as Newsweek); yet I'm baffled at why it hasn't been publicized more...
P.S. the old "Weekend Update", from the obscure "SNL" program, could be another cultural gem just waiting to be discovered
I would be much more interested in watching a debate moderated by Stewart than Brit Hume and Peter Jennings, and not only for the entertainment value. The questions would be a lot better, and the sacred cows and elephants in the room slaughtered with reckless abandon.
Highway, I think Craigers was funnier, but I think the Stewart team has better writing, and aims higher with its material.
"Pilot costume"? You would have had Bush land on the carrier in a fighter jet wearing a suit? I don't suppose you understand what nomex is for
It's astounding what the loons will say....
We would have had him skip the entire tasteless, exploitative stunt altogether. The Village People-like atmospherics occasioned by the flight suit are just one of many reasons why such discretion would have been a good idea.
Kilborn/Stewart is the Dick York/Dick Sargent debate of our generation.
No, more like Stewart / Kilborn is the Bo & Luke / Coy & Vance debate.
No contest in my opinion. Stewart is far superior. Mo Rocca, tho, I don't particularly care for.
After taking part in that dismal SMOKING GUN special on Court TV, Mo Rocca deserves to be cast into a pit with the rest of the Kilborn-era DAILY SHOW alumni.

I'll only be impressed with your good taste if Rip Taylor is in the top ten.
Bush was NOT in a fighter jet. It was an S-3 Viking anti-submarine aircraft, which I believe has a normal crew of three. It is also roomy enough to maneuver into and out of the pilot's seat. A suit? No. Full flight gear? Okay, but let's admit it was more procedure than neccesity, and cut all the Top-Gun crap.

I do not fear computers. I fear lack of them.
