Publisher's Notes
• MONEY COLUMNIST
This month's Money column is the first to be written by our new columnist, Mark Tier. A seasoned financial writer, Tier edited and published an Australian advisory letter for three years, expanding it this year into the internationally circulated World Money Analyst, published in Hong Kong. Tier authored the 1974 bestselling Australian booklet, "Understanding Inflation." He was also one of the founders of Australia's libertarian political party (now called the Progress Party). Tier received a degree in economics from the Australian National University in Canberra, "after which," he reports, "I learned economics." His international perspective on money will appear in REASON's pages every second month.
• NEW JOURNAL
Readers may be interested in the founding of a new scholarly journal called Alternative Futures: The Journal of Utopian Studies. According to the editors, it "will provide a forum for utopian and futures-oriented scholarship and commentary." They are seeking material "from the entire range of disciplines bearing on utopian and futures thinking, such as philosophy, history, and literature on the one hand and ecology, sociology, political science, and values aspects of science and technology on the other." This should be a good place to introduce libertarian/anarchocapitalist visions of the future. Article proposals and manuscripts should be submitted (in duplicate, with return postage) to either of the editors: Alexandra Aldridge, Dept. of Humanities, College of Engineering, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 48109, or Merrit Abrash, Human Dimensions Center, Renselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY 12181.
