    Yes, but does Toyota produce anything as socially conscious or politically acceptable as the Volt?

  • Sernylan||

    Well,...the "Pious" "Prius"

  • Aresen||

    I want a "Priapus".

    One wonders about what Ford was thinking when they offered us the "Probe".

  • Brandon||

    "politically acceptable?" Even Obama won't be caught dead in one of those things.

  • Sernylan||

    ""politically acceptable?" Even Obama won't be caught dead in one of those things."

    The Volt is purposely designed to burn the corpses of its occupants beyond all recognition, sparing them the shame and embarrassment of being "caught dead" in it....it’s absolutely diabolical.

    Carbon credit!

  • Sernylan||

    "Carbon credit!"

    +1 to you, sir.

    "Yes, but does Toyota produce anything as socially conscious or politically acceptable as the Volt?"

    Naah. They try to make things they can sell.

    No, Toyota doesn't seem to be big on choo-choo trains, if that's what mean. I suspect they have a market on some of the gizzards, but a quick googling didn't reveal anything that looked like they were fully on-board with the best transportation system ever invented.

  • Sernylan||

    "but a quick googling didn't reveal anything that looked like they were fully on-board with the best transportation system ever invented."

    Toyota isn't fully on-board with commercial aviation?

  • Sernylan||

    OT.....This doesn't fit the G.C. "narrative", It's somewhat an inconvient truth.

  • Jesus H. Christ||

    Sounds like the Sheriff is raising the spectre of "budget cuts" to scare the populace into opening their wallets even further.

  • widget||

    From that sound-bite, sheriff Dave Clark seems OK to me, Jesus.

  • Sernylan||

    "From that sound-bite, sheriff Dave Clark seems OK to me, Jesus."

    It would be the polar opposite of what this douche spigot has to say.

  • Jesus H. Christ||

    Had his comment not included the "because of budget cuts" I'd agree with you. With that comment in there, it sounds like the populace has not paid enough protection money.

  • widget||

    I really didn't get that from what he said. Sherriff Clark is OK with ordinary people making up the difference between the protective services the police provide with whatever services people can provide for themselves. Maybe I'm grading of curve here, but practically, what else do you want?

  • General Butt Naked||

    Sounds like he wants me to spend my saved tax money on a firearm, which is a wonderful suggestion. He's just giving every guy the perfect excuse to buy a new handgun and get some training, "But, honey... BUDGET CUTS!"

  • Sernylan||

    Sounds like the Sheriff is raising the spectre of "budget cuts self-reliance to scare the populace into opening their wallets even further looking beyond their government, and taking up an inkling of personal responsibility.

    The poor deluded fool...

    OT: BREAKING NEWS!!!

    Dallas police very close to figuring out what molly is:

    "It's marketed because they want these children to use it. They want them to buy it. They make it seem cool. It's not as dangerous as meth, but it's the exact same drug," said Sgt. Danny, a Dallas police narcotics officer.

    Or maybe not.

  • Death Rock and Skull||

    I had Molly that was actually meth once. I snorted it and my nose bled for a few days. Nothing else happened.

  • Coeus||

    I had some that was actually 2-ce. I didn't take any though, as I tested it first. I never trust white powder. Too many things it could be. Doesn't change the fact that a 2-second google would tell them what Molly is.

  • TheZeitgeist||

    GM produces the Volt, and it is mockable, but around West LA I am seeing them more and more, at least a few a day now, about one for every fifty Toyota Prii I see. Tree-huggers love the Prius, and it is their yuppie MacBook Air to GM's Windows-8-Volt imitation, maybe technically better on a couple counts but shoddy in its details.

    And Leafs are short-ranged, unreliable kit-car conversions of a Versa.

    So that leaves eco-weenies with scratch and social-climber anxiety only, really, the Prius. Toyota makes a Lexus edition with lockwashers and leather, but its essentially the same car.

    However the eco-weenie with scratch now has a choice, and I say this as somebody who was a skeptic of the car, but am becoming a convert now seeing at least a couple a day around where I live: The Tesla Model S. They are pure electrics with a lot of range, built like a real, modern car in a real modern car factory (thanks Toyota and Uncle Sugar!). Oh, and Teslas are fast - like burn a Porsche-off-the-light fast.

    With the Model S, said eco-weenie now has a step-up from a Prius; in performance, power, fashion statement, and its "greener" with its CO2 conveniently out of sight coming out a coal plant somewhere far away. Tesla might be a good stock to keep an eye on, it is a high-quality hit among the trendy with cash.

  • stoneymonster||

    California gets like 3% of its in state and 8% of out of state power from coal. I hear this canard about electric cars and coal all the time and its a stupid argument. There are better counter arguments.

    OT again:

    Newton Father gets an answer to his question.

    When Neil Heslin, who was holding a picture of his deceased son, Jesse Lewis, during his testimony, asked the state senate why Bushmaster-type assault rifles should be legal, several gun enthusiasts in the audience reportedly shouted him down, yelling "The Second Amendment!"

    I would also have accepted "fuck your kids".

  • General Butt Naked||

    Oh my, the gawker crowd has their panties in a 360 degree bunch over this. Poor dears.

    I guess if you lose your kid you should be able to take the people that didn't do its rights away.
