Boy, 5, Accidentally Kills Younger Sister with .22 Rifle

BURKESVILLE, Ky. - A 5-year-old Kentucky boy accidentally shot and killed his 2-year-old sister Tuesday while playing with a rifle that police say he received as a gift, reports CBS affiliate WKYT.

Their mother had reportedly stepped outside just minutes before the incident.

Doctors reportedly worked for an hour to revive 2-year-old Caroline Starks, but were unsuccessful, reports the station.

Seems like he hadn't fully mastered that "do not point at anything you do not want to shoot" rule...

What a fucking shitty story. How hard is it not to leave children (especially boys) alone with guns (which are, per gun safety, always loaded)?

Firearms Safety Rule #1: ALWAYS assume that the weapon is loaded!

What part of that do people not understand? Also, proper storage would go a long way in preventing incidents like this.
