United States v. Kirby Lumber Co., 284 U.S. 1 (decided November 2, 1931): in one of his last opinions, Holmes holds that the gain realized by a company which bought up its own bonds at a lower price than issued is taxable
United States v. Portale, 235 U.S. 27 (decided November 2, 1914): another opinion by Holmes, concerning conviction under a statute that I wish someone would explain to me (currently codified at 18 U.S. §2424): if you harbor an alien woman brought here for the purpose of prostitution, you must file a statement to that effect with Immigration (who would ever do that? prostitution was illegal, of course, so isn't this Fifth Amendment self-incrimination?)
McKesson v. Doe, 141 S.Ct. 48 (decided November 2, 2020): Circuit Court should have certified question to the Louisiana Supreme Court (on whether Louisiana law holds organizer liable for actions of protester in seriously injuring policeman with thrown rock) instead of trying to decide it themselves
The white slave case reminds me of the various laws requiring people to pay taxes on their illegal drugs. As currently codified the law offers use immunity for the compelled report.
Thanks
But can anyone trust that “immunity”?
I'd think the Fifth Amendment would make the information unusable in court if they provided it. But if they didn't provide it, then they could be prosecuted. This is a guess, and I'm not sure how it applies to Orion sex slaves.
Liked him during his first term, drove a 1974 State Plymouth Satellite, 318 V-8, same models we drove in Drivers Ed (and if you were lucky some ex-CHP Dodge Monacos) lived in an apartment instead of the Governors Mansion, and best of all, "dated" Linda Ronstadt
One of his Plymouths is an exhibit at the California Automobile Museum (www.calautomuseum.org)
That idiot New-sum has his way, all cars will be in Museums

Biden is planning an unscheduled speech tonight.
Looking forward to hearing how voters should ignore their problems and concentrate on storytelling about the last national election.
And how voters should forget about their energy needs because the people of the year 2100 matter and Americans' needs in 2022 don’t.
And how government that intentionally makes Americans' lives worse is necessary because otherwise bogeymen will snatch you all up. No way Americans should let our guards down and vote for government that intends to serve (instead of bully) the public.
Let’s hear it from Joe though.
Will he be able to hire Klingons for stage direction this time?
Hey (man!) give Demented Joe a break (man!) His son died in Ear-Rock! (man) and he's right, I didn't vote for him (man!) and I'm not Black (man!)
