"DAD Standing Order"
I came across this docket notation in a case I'm following, and was puzzled about what it meant. A few searches made clear that it was exclusively a U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California thing, but why? And the orders don't themselves explain it, just saying things like,
If the court does direct the filing of a proposed order, the party should submit
it as required by Local Rule 137(b) and email it in Microsoft Word to dadorders@caed.uscourts.gov.
But on reflection it's obvious; they're all from Judge Dale A. Drozd. Nothing worth framing as a present for Father's Day, unfortunately ….

If a legal utterance cannot be explained by a 6th grader, it is void for its failure to provide notice. This is required by Fifth Amendment procedural due process, and not discretionary. Stop the lawyer denier crap about the rent seeking purpose of abstruse language. It is a bunko and theft by the lawyer profession. It should not be tolerated, and should result in the voiding of the utterance and prison term for the authors.

You need to show that the overall level of literacy at the US's founding was such that this criterion was intended and would have worked then. Otherwise your plaint fails as being neither textualist nor originalist.
"Who's your drozd?"
Doesn't every father reading the VC have standing Dad Orders? Here are three of mine that I formulated when my boys were toddlers and am still using now that they are in college.
Pick up your things.
Be nicer to your mother.
Let go of your brother's head.
Give your mother a hug before we leave.
Help mom around the house.
When asked "Who is the most beautiful woman in the world" you say "mom."
Had trouble with that last one as he got older and saw Megan Fox in the Transformers movie. 🙂
Years ago I worked for a law firm in which our shared file drive had a separate folder for each attorney’s pending motions. The naming convention for the folders was the attorney’s initials followed my the word “motions”. So Attorney John Doe’s folder would be named JDMotions.
One of the partners had the initials BS (hi Ben) so sure enough, his folder was BSMotions.
Heh. Funny indeed. Not sure if it's at the level of Arrested Development's Analrapist. But it's at least close.

Is the '12' supposed to be part of the quotation?
Whoops, fixed, thanks!
