Eight of the nine justices on that Court had been appointed by Republican presidents. The only one appointed by a Democrat (Byron White) was a long-time right-winger and he dissented.

And Roberts has showed with the Louisiana decision that is he fully on the left now. I doubt he would have been on the right side of Citizens United, Heller, or Parents Involved if they were decided today. The left's court packing threats worked.
