Bill to repeal blasphemy law introduced in Irish Parliament
The Irish Times (Marie O'Halloran) reports:
Legislation has been introduced in the Dáil to allow a referendum to remove the offence of blasphemy from the Constitution.
Social Democrats [Member of Parliament] Róisín Shortall also introduced a separate Bill to remove the offence of blasphemy from the 2009 Defamation Act.
For more on the recent investigation of supposed blasphemy by comedian Stephen Fry, which helped prompt the repeal move, see here.
