A supreme nomination to the Supreme Court

This evening, President Trump nominated the Honorable Neil Gorsuch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit to the Supreme Court. Judge Gorsuch is well-known for his intellect, his clear writing, his wit and his charm. By any measure, Gorsuch is a supremely well-qualified nominee, well-deserving of the honor that has been bestowed upon him tonight.
As I noted last week, Gorsuch was ranked as among the most "Scalia-esque" of potential nominees to replace Antonin Scalia. He also shares Justice Scalia's vision of the law, as he explained in a speech last April at the Case Western Reserve University School of Law (published in the Case Western Reserve Law Review here).
Gorsuch also raised questions about the Chevron doctrine in a recent opinion I noted here. Agree or disagree, this opinion showcases Gorsuch's intellect and independence of mind.
I'll have more to say about Gorsuch in the coming weeks. For now, let me say that we should all be proud that someone of Gorsuch's character and intelligence has been nominated to the highest court in the land.
