The 1998 Reason Smoke-In with Drew Carey
From the vault!
Nearly 10 years ago, California extended its ban on smoking in work places to include bars. Drew Carey (a principled non-smoker) and Reason teamed up to protest the ban, which was unprecedented at the time.
Today, more than 50% of Americans live in areas with some kind of smoking ban, and the rest of the world is jumping onto the ban wagon as well.
But California continues to lead the charge. In Calabasas, California, it's now illegal to smoke outside (except for a few designated smoking areas), and Belmont, California recently voted to prohibit smoking inside apartments and condominiums.
