End Warrantless Deep State Spying: Don't Renew 702

It's time to rein in warrantless domestic surveillance before it's too late.

As former NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealed to the world in 2013, the U.S. government routinely spies on its own citizens.

"I, sitting at my desk, could wiretap anyone, from you or your accountant, to a federal judge or even the president," Snowden told the journalists crowded into his hotel room before the publication of his leaked documents.

The leaks exposed lies from government officials about the mass surveillance of American citizens, with former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper testifying before Congress that the NSA didn't "wittingly" collect any data on millions of Americans.

Four years after the Snowden leaks, the government is still collecting Americans' private information. Though the NSA claims it ended bulk collection of domestic phone calls, the agency is still operating several other far-reaching domestic spying programs.

Now there's a way to end these unconstitutional practices. The NSA gets its authority to spy on U.S. Citizens from Section 702 of the FISA Amendments Act. The law will expire this year after it hits its five-year sunset. Lawmakers will soon be deliberating over whether to renew Section 702 for another five or maybe even make it permanent.

Watch the video above to see why it's vital that they let Section 702 lapse.

    Don't expect any help from "libertarian-Republican" Jeff Flake.

  • Crusty Juggler - Lawbertarian||

    Or those RINOs Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski.

    Or those other RINOs like McCain, etc.
    RINOs in Congress

    I'm making over $12k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life. This is what I do,...Go this web and start your work... Good luck.. http://www.startonlinejob.com

    I wouldn't expect any Republicans except the libertarian-leaning variety to vote for this... what are there 5 total in both houses?

    This seems like an area where democrat party principles should hopefully drive some debate. The key will be to get the majority of Americans talking about this, but in reality, 702 has about 0.001% chance of not being renewed by Congress.

  • Crusty Juggler - Lawbertarian||

    If being wiretapped was good enough for The Greatest Generation, it is good enough for you.

  • DEATFBIRSECIA||

    Of course it will get renewed. It always does and it always will.

    Now there's a way to end these unconstitutional practices.

    Oh you optimist you! You're so cute when you're quaint.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    There is nothing legal to renew.

    Domestic spying without a warrant is illegal under the Constitution.

  • Jickerson||

    Yes, and? What consequences are there when the government violates the Constitution? Oh, right: Nothing. Most of the time they don't even get voted out, let alone sent to prison (as they should be).

  • BYODB||

    Yeah, I'd say the end of this program will be around the same time that the ACA finally gets repealed.

    I suspect we should simply learn to love big brother! Right, NSA?

    Most likely 702 will be up for a vote to repeal it and replace it with something even worse. This is the Republican model, and in this case it will get bipartisan support.

    It's time to rein in warrantless domestic surveillance before it's too late.

    Not a good idea.
    Our ruling elitist turds need to know what the lowly plebian class is saying and doing in order to stop any possible counter-revolutionary thoughts and actions.
    Otherwise our beloved socialist slave state might crumble.
    No one wants that.

    These issues will only get traction when REASON manages to get into our classrooms. Let's face it, by the time you get thru college your mind is immune to REASON. Save the world by ending the NEA and the rest is at least possible.

    Sorry, it's already way too late to stop your Federal government from spying on you, and YOUR Congresspersons are allowing it to happen. Want to change things? Vote EVERY INCUMBENT out of office. Got the cajones to do that? Never.

  • John DeWitt||

    Yes, vote them out and replace with the other candidate who is for illegal wiretapping and growing the size of the federal government.

  • Don't look at me.||

    Vote everyone out, every time.

  • BDATRUTH||

    When they still haven't even sorted out the illegal Obama surveillance and jailed no one for it, the Intel people charged with stopping foreign interference didn't do so, now want more money for more surveillance, liked into Google and Facebook? I'm thinking not, I'm thinking less surveillance, and maybe less FBI.

    Uphold the constitution?? While we fight a forever war? Madness. Just chill and wait until the forever war is ended.

  • Jan Brady||

    The liberals who hated Bush for carrying out unwarranted wiretapping were silent when Obama continued it.

    There's an amazon kindle book called 1,366 well sourced examples of Barack Obama's lies, lawbreaking, corruption, cronyism, hypocrisy, waste, etc.

  • Locris||

    Does not matter.
    The people who want a warrant signed know which judge to get.
    It's just like a booty call.
