Comedy, Outrage, and College: What We Saw at the Can We Take a Joke? Premiere

The documentary feature Can We Take a Joke? premiered at the film festival Doc NYC this Friday, and Reason TV was on the scene at a pre-party being held at the Comedy Cellar's Village Undergound, where filmmakers, comedians, and free speech advocates were eager to sound off about free speech and comedy following a week of high-profile anti-speech protests on college campuses like Yale and Mizzou.

"Maybe the events of this week signal that we're reaching peak crazy and that people are going to say, 'Whoa, this is a little too nutty,'" says director Ted Balaker. "But on the other hand, the outrage mob could just keep plowing ahead."

Approximately 3 minutes. Shot by Jim Epstein. Edited by Zach Weissmueller. Music by Latche Swing.

    That's why we need to vote Hillary 2016! Democrats will help with such mental health issues! Under Obamacare, there will be free reeducation camps mental health spas for people who are showing anti-Democratsocial tendencies! All paid for by the tax payer! Because we love you and we care!

  • Win Bear||

    That's it! You convinced me! I've had it with libertarianism! I'm going to vote for Hillary now so that she can shut you up and send you to the work camps, where you belong! That will show you!

    Just get an orphan to whip one up for you when they finish polishing your gaming monocle.

    "Nor should you have one! Wearing a fedora is basically an homage to the character of Indiana Jones, who is every white male cis-hetero shit lord's fantasy of naked aggression against third-world people of color -- plus he practiced not just cultural appropriation, but outright cultural theft in the form of the unlawful seizure of rare historical treasures! If you wear a fedora, especially when combined with the wearing a PITA-offending leather jacket, then you are guilty of a hate crime and should be treated as such by our loving, protective government overlords."

    Am I doing it right?

    The sad thing is that the censorship at liberal douche training camps _shows_ that these children who believe the power structure of this country is controlled by "right-wingers, Christians, and the family values crowd" are now actually the empowered class, and _they_ are the ones murdering the jesters, and cursing the boy who dares to tell them they wear no clothes.
