The lockdowns that NPCs complied with?
Complied and celebrated.
Honestly no one cares what Bari Weiss's wife has to say on anything...nick is obsessed with the cosmo NYC "intellectual" journalist type and not someone who actually says anything interesting about libertarianism. Tom Woods, Scott Horton, Doug McGregor and so on...how about Judge Nap? No, it is always the same type of folks he wets his pants over. Ivy League, NYC, some liberal art major from money (and rarely Catholic...but mostly..well you know..). He is a fanboy of the new Wasps...come on Nick..interview someone who has something to actually say
Well, there are a few places on Earth that definitely are rein–er–free– of, *ahem!* (((you know.)))
There’s The West Bank, There’s Saudi Arabia, there was Gaza before Hamas started showing their ass. And there’s lots of neighbors who, while not rein–er–free of (((those people))), these neighbors at least keep (((those people))) on tight leash.
I know, these places aren’t exactly the Big Dumb Palookaville you want, but, hey like Professor Thomas Sowell says: “Life is trade-offs.”
Then again, you probably hate Dr. Sowell too.
Like it or lump it, Fuck Off, Mussolini!

2020: The Year We Went Full Karen.
You never go full Karen. Did we learn nothing from Tropic Thunder?
I still can't believe that people accepted being locked down. No one not in fucking prison should ever be subjected to any such thing. I don't care if it's airborne anthrax ebola x10, that is not a power anyone should have over people.
It’s was a fulfillment of a dream for many people
Stay home in pajamas, get paid, have food delivered. Some still insist on doing the same today.
I have OCD friends who have still not left their homes except in rare instances. And when one of them does the other say "how brave". It's fucking crazy.
They are genuine OCD, they have genuine mental health issues. But the whole fucking world acted like this for three full years without any viable excuse. Nuts.
TDS and OCD
You and your friends must be a blast at parties
DoorDash rules, but we also go out.
So, false dichotomy.
What do you mean, "us"?
It certainly didn't improve my mental state.
Yeah, except for the masks madness, it was a great time to travel. No crowds.
One of the benefits of an apocalypse.
What do you mean, “drove”?
I think except maybe ‘Bowles’ every word in the title needs quotation marks around it.
AFAICT, most of them were pretty batshit insane from 2016, if not the Obama era, and COVID was just an excuse to drop the Bruce Wayne persona and put the mask on.
At the leading edge, store had their shelves wiped clean of toilet paper.
The internet historian has a great video on that.
Do you know why everyone wanted toilet paper?
One guy would cough, 3 people would shit their pants.
Trying to find a roll was like playing Where in the World is Charmin San Diego?
Did you think we were going to get off Scott free?
At the time, I thought maybe there was an urban legend that toilet paper cures COVID-19. No joke!
🙂
😉
I worked during that time and the shelved looked like something from the old Soviet Union!
Bidet, Mate!

People accepted the lockdowns because Trump, yes Trump, told them it would only be two weeks to flatten the curve. Well we did flatten the curve. I still have graphs showing it. But Trump did not pull back. He tasted the power and he wanted more. Eventually he realized he was losing his base and reversed course, but he was in charge of it, even claiming only he could relax the lockdowns not the governors of states.
Meanwhile Sweden, yes Sweden, didn't have any mandatory lockdowns. Schools stayed open. Etc. And no appreciable differences in outcomes from other Nordic countries.
Unbelievable stack of lies. Except the Sweden part, which you hated at the time.
I guess it flattened the curve in the first 14 days and then didn't flatten the curve on day 15?
Wow. The federal lockdown was only 2 weeks. It is governors who locked down states after that. Not the federal government.
It’s like you think none of us were thinking people at that time.
If you can't blame Trump, who can you blame?
Chumby must have missed a federal lockdown. Zero lockdown days in little Siberia.
Federal lockdown?
There was no federal lockdown. The federal government doesn't even have the power to do that.
Lockdowns - if your state had them, were a state thing, not federal.
Well we did flatten the curve. I still have graphs showing it.
The first time "flatten the curve" was mentioned, I pointed out that anybody with even a HS-level understanding of calc or statistics knows that it's not the flatness of the curve, it's the area underneath that matters. And your own point about Sweden demonstrates your dishonesty and/or stupidity about "I still have graphs!"
Expecting any "expert" including Francis collins and little fauci actually recalled what a derivative or integral was from their freshman one required calc class is a stretch. Expecting any critical thinking from the corporate media is an even bigger leap of faith...

I think we all learned a lot. Personally, I didn't learn that Collins or Fauci weren't listening to me. That was a given. What I did learn is that the number of people who would normally deride bumper sticker slogans and pride themselves on that level of academic understanding even in fairly critical political situations, when it really came down to it, didn't actually care.
Area under the curve is what matters if what you are concerned about is the number of people dying. But I thought their excuse for the curve flattening argument was that it kept the area under more or less the same, but spread out in time to keep hospitals from being overwhelmed (which was always mostly bullshit). Of course you could also flatten the curve by raising it up closer to the peak.
Basically this. No one cares how many people were going to catch it - it was assumed most would anyway.
The 'flatten the curve's was to keep the peak cases down, not to reduce total cases.
Who was President in Jan of 2021 until now?
What are you talking about? The President didn't lock anything down. That was your state. Rund by Democrats.
Oh Suddenly Nick Gillespie has discovered that women are being erased? Check out Nick Gillespie, showing up to the party, 10 years late, carrying a warm case of Zima.
Sal Grover and the fight for women-only spaces.
Trigger warning: Former, and no longer welcomed-back Reason contributor, Brendan O'Niell.
Are they blaming the patriarchy?
No, they're blaming *checks previous Gillespie interviews* "Promethean transformations".
Does Zima still exist? Serving that warm is it's own crime.
He shows up sporting a New York Dolls tshirt that is ironically two sizes too small.
New Math was a better band by far...type in "New Math Die Trying" in youtube...blows anything david johanson ever did...they sucked.
Are you saying they are hot hot hot?
Hear ya go, Dolls wit no David Jo
Chatterbox
Just Johnny, Jerry, Syl and Arthur
I don’t pop music. I was making fun of Nick’s possible guilty pleasure.
The lockdowns (and Trump) drove *you*, in your LA and DC enclaves, crazy. Not the rest of the country.
The parts between the coasts that you forget exist.
